this is what a mini suv/crossover form factor? It's smaller than the GV and much lighter so I am guessing the M16A should be more than adequate vs the old-tec J20A motor?

Question is, what does it compete with locally? Would you say the HR-V, Juke, Qashqai, ASX and XV? I not sure if I could even fit inside this vehicle with that meager 2500mm wheelbase though, I think it will sell but to professionals who want "SUV" experience and perhaps with no family to tote. Excellent job on the website LSM, hope other stealerships follow same.

I have a 3dr 2007 Grand Vitara that has the same m16a engine and a 5spd gearbox with the awd drive train. The sgv is 3000lbs and pulls quite well, just as fast as other econobox cars on the road and is very good on fuel.
The 2016 awd vitara is 2600lbs, which is lighter and may perform better. I believe the m16a engine is now more refined as well for 2016. The 6spd auto should help transfer the power nicely.

I dont think it's fair to compare this Vitara to the old Grand Vitara, the old one was body on frame and had a REAL 4 wheel drive system with a locking diff if I'm not mistaken, the new one is basically a raised car with ' 4wd ' thrown in, they're completely different except for the name, same thing Nissan did with the Pathfinder, they made it unibody instead of body on frame, I'm sure this new Vitara can't hold a candle to the old on in terms of offroad worthiness.

Yeah those have the G16B sohc motor. I find the 4dr 1.6 2nd gen auto sgvs were a bit lazy up steep hills, but are still quite capable, and can go where other 4x4s struggle. The newer 2nd gens also had a 'power' mode for those activities. I owned one of those for a while and I've never found somewhere where it feels under powered.

However the newer 1600 is a totally different engine. The M16A is a DOHC with vvt.

My 3dr 1.6 AWD SGV was able to haul the 3000lb body around with 4 people and luggage with AC pumping from Scarborough to charlotteville without feeling like it was straining. I drive mine daily, and have no problems where speed or power is concerned, although the 5th gear is a bit short imo.

So in my opinion I believe with the refined M16A (reviewed intake system, refined mpfi, optimization of the intake VVT, and increased valve lift) in the new Vitara with a 6spd auto (not CVT thankfully) it will perform well, as it is lighter. Most people may go for the 2wd trim, which has 2 less wheels to power and may perform better. The new vitara is basically another FWD based crossover. It's the best value for money in the brand new car offerings currently.

There is also a 1.4 turbo version being released next year, dunno if we going to get it though.

Agreed. This new vitara competes more with the likes of the qashqai, hrv, cx-3, asx, juke, etc.
sub compact crossovers essentially.

On a side note, anyone can or at least knows someone that can assist me in getting a vehicle cleared from the port before Christmas? Added 'fees' won't be an issue.

Saw some audis being driven from the port to storage on Monday night. Kudos to ssl drivers for taking their time and not gheeing like what tttl does.

I'm thinking why even buy the vitara when you can simply get the s-cross instead. Same feats, same engine and more room inside including trunk space and it's the same price I think for the 2wd version i.e. 205k. With more job loss expected for 2016, I think we are going to see more competitively priced vehicles.

^Quite right you are. I don't understand how the vitara and s-cross plan to sell alongside each other.they are both crossovers, with the same features and the s-cross has more space for the same price.
the vitara just looks better and has a 6pd auto instead of a cvt like the s-cross. and iirc, the redline on the vitara is 6500rpm vs 6000rpm on the s-cross.

I doubt it very much. Asked about a diesel variant of the SGV and lsm said it is not feasible to bring them.
