Is warranty optional on a new vehicle from the firm (as in can you pay less and not take it) if you purchasing cash?
And if you buying cash, can you put it third party with a reputable insurance company?

Yes you can put third party once you buy it cash. Once on loan the bank normally wants fully comp.

What of the warranty?

Heard of something similar with a person buying the new C class and paying less but getting two years warranty instead of 4. Don't think dealers care whether you buy a vehicle cash or you take a loan. To them it's the same money for the vehicle at the end of the day.

What do you consider fun might be a good starting question. Less than 250? I'd throw out the swift sport and the Jetta for different reasons.

Sharp handling and manual transmission. Lancer is a boat. Jetta will spend more time in the dealer than at the driver. Sport is the only one worth it really

Btw just spent a week in a rental Jetta acceleration is its only strong point. Everything else is horrible transmission is jerky and on rental spec tyres the car bounces around noticeably when coming to a stop

Transmission was never jerky for me. I gather you left it in D and drove it like a slush box auto? As for tyres can you blame the car for that?

Thought I was the only one who thought the lancer felt like a boat.
+1 on the Swift sport manual though. The ZC31 models aren't badly priced second hand either.

100% agree. For an enthusiast site you would think more ppl would be into the "fun to drive" factor.

That kinda depends on the person's definition of fun. ...

Would you like fun car that is at the dealer 3 months of every year for repairs that requires exotic parts that are way expensive. .... or

Would you like a fun car that requires basic maintenance with minimal down time, is good on fuel when it needs to be with affordable parts.

I personally enjoy all motor vehicles. ... It doesn't have to be the fastest or have the best dynamics. ... but I will push it to the limit once in a while.

A cheaper initial price means more money for mods and it will be less headache come time to insure the vehicle...

fun to drive in terms of overall package has to be a Jetta but on 18" rims and stickier tyres.

Mazda 3, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer GT are all fun to drive IMO. The first two would be better on 17" rims or even 18". The stock 16" rubber doesn't do it any justice.

Fun to drive for some is a Hyundai Elantra, don't mind the car can't corner properly or has a poor braking and steering system once it have fake leather seats, 6 airbags (you gonna need it), rear camera and 4 disc brakes, you good to go. But resident StarTrek man amongst others agreed that the Elantra can shame many on Solodex so perhaps for $220k and equipped with the raj of all features ie. a power tilt/slide sunroof this is fun to drive on a whole new level. big man ting.

Why sell it with a d Option and high profile tyre?

I don't know. It's a rental. Can't speak for the tyre on that. New ones are sold with summer tyres but if one doesn't like it then change it as that isn't a permanent feature on any new car.

The fun isn't in D was all I was implying and really it's more a matter of slightly altering how one drives in D and it's back to smooth but didn't want to get into too many details on that.

Anyhoo. My point was it is far from sporty or worth that title in Stock form it was annoying as Fcuk tbh.
So back to the original question I guess the swift sport is the only engaging drivers car within a reasonable budget.

For you as your version of fun is very specific leading you to choose one vehicle and discard all others.

I would rank vehicles as opposed to discarding. One may not like x or y but y may be more fun to drive than x for example.

Jetta dsg can be jerky and make you think its broken, but mainly when your input is not direct and confusing.
So for example if you at low speed, you push the accelerator with some surety that you are accelerating then quickly let go and then push it again. The transmission will buck like a bronco.

Took me about 2-3 weeks to figure it out and get it smooth. You gotta be direct with it or else the computer has a wtf moment trying to figure out what you want. Also it has become much smoother over the last 2 years with software updates.

Bunny is right you can't drive it like a auto because like a manual you don't have a torque converter to smooth out the input.
There are advantages and disadvantages to this system and you can't write its off from a 1 week rental.

The fiesta was surprisingly enjoyable to drive. And that's at around 160k I think.
I imagine the fiesta ST may be most likely less than 300k and pretty engaging if brought down as a special order or foreign used.

But how long is a test drive? Still doesn't change the fact that a Jetta is horribly unreliable.

Oh fiesta st sounds fun how many new cars can you even get with a stick nowadays?

Imprezas also starting with ridiculous showroom prices - $250k for non turbo 1.6 sedans. You would definitely struggle to sell a 1 Year old car if its price is close to brand new sedans prices r.e. Ceratos, Elantras, Lancers and even Corollas and Civic.

Yup!
Corolla for example is the same price as the impreza in the US but locally the impreza is $245 and the Corolla starts at 192 - 215
it's like they are pricing it to fail for such a great and reliable car!

After seeing how a few cerato's fare in accidents, I am now skeptical of those korean cars with their low starting price.
