When it comes to pickups and SUVs (people carriers) I truly prefer the diesel variants the only benefit from the gas is a higher rev range but other than that diesel is king. The torque, fuel economy can't be beat it costs more in the beginning but nothing beats a $60 full up and driving for two weeks.

As for the pickups after seeing the display of driving from Massey drivers(D Plate convey) in the new Navaras/NP300 Saturday I personally think I'll wait for the second batch those guys were pushing those vehicles I was behind a white NP300 and it made me rethink buying new vehicles locally, man had no regard for humps, holes and apparently doesn't understand what is tailgating. My next new vehicle I'll pickup from the port myself.

Fuel economy you say.... Have you seen the maths. $30000 in gas is alot... well super anyway. Let's say both vehicles get the same mpg, the break even point is over 250000kms. Now some can probably make up that mileage in 5yrs but our 18yr old Corolla has recently achieved that milestone.
It's really up to how much distance you cover to know what's best for you.
Uncle has the gas lux about 7 yrs now. ... hasn't crossed 70000kms and he saved $50000 by going gas over the diesel.

I called TTTL but they said they no longer bring the gas model...called a few FU dealers..waiting on a response..if not,may bring it in myself. When the subsidy is removed on diesel, would it still be worth it?

Diesel not going to be changed anytime soon and when it eventually goes up super will also go up.
Right now they making a fat profit off premium as oil price dropped by half.

In my case the majority of my garage use premium before the hike I ran my vehicles no problem and diesel made no sense to me. Now however the diesel is a breath of fresh air on the pocket, I can also cover quite a bit of distance in a year (easy 30k-50k) and paying almost $350 to fill each week was becoming tedious. In addition the price difference for me is usually 20,000 (beg for a discount no same in that). My TCZ Navara that I had for 9months before it was stolen last year had just under 27K on the clock also have a PCY now hiting the 40K mark so I move quite a bit.

I understand where you are coming from
I just did a like for like comparison
(diesel vs Gas Sportage as an example; is $30000 cheaper for the gas)

Sorry to hear bout the Nav
Still can't justify that ~$40000 premium to get an auto over the manual Nav though....but that's a different story.
My LUX is about 1.5yrs old and I only just crossed 26000Km

As Regards the New Vehicles with D plates heading to the dealerships
I knew in the past toyota had a Hilux convoy doing 60-70Kph down the highway at night, but that was about a year ago; things have probably changed

But them Navara drivers with D plates
Should also see them in licensing office playing the royal with people new van. I already know they does run it on the highway....Ford Ranger as well.

-convoy with police escort....was more like a cannonball run...front of convoy lost the middle....it became disjointed as members of convoy didn't have discipline and tailgated other users of the road...drag out at lights (Wrightson rd /tobago ferry) to catch up etc....eventual turn into aranguez

none of the vehicles had D plates and were being driven after 6pm - which might be breaking some laws of our land.

True. I only really saw Toyota bring down a fleet of hilux but they were in a convoy with some gt86. I was looking at those vehicles Massey carried LA vega and offloaded and wondering if they gonna get sold to some unsuspecting person.

After the display I saw at 12 in the afternoon last Saturday trust me, you might really want to stand up outside the factory in Thailand. The one I mentioned in particular was being redlined constantly, then again that may be the new break in procedure :? .

With all due respect, your statement is somewhat illiterate because I'm pretty sure you wouldn't drive your own vehicle in the manner these people drive the vehicles they're going to sell..much less for letting someone else drive it like that for you..

Problem is they screwing with the vehicle while the pistons rings are breaking in and being set. This will reducing the life of your engine, it will screw with your fuel consumption and lastly will lead to higher oil consumption.

Can a customer request and pay for their new vehicle to be brought from port and taken to license office and back on a tow truck? So that vehicle only has mileage on it from driving around in license office? And its being delivered to owner with less than 10km on it?

I guess the firm could agree to all that, charge u 10000 to do it and just do their usual sheit and then reset the odometer tho lol

How much does an average new vehicle from a Port of Spain showroom usually do before it gets to the customer though??

Got mine in 2011 with 70kms. Fair enough from manufacturer - boat - dealer - license office - showroom I think.

Won't doubt it when I checked my "new" vehicle shortly after getting it from the firm the ECU(Trans) mileage reading was different from the odometer and the engine mileage reading. Checked with two different scan tools with the same results figured it was testing at the factory :?: :?:

As for new vehicle odometer reading when I received my last vehicle from M.Rampersad it came with 86 on the odometer and everything matched.
