Care to elaborate..?? Because if the good stuff you're referring to is spacecraft apparel, crims and fake woodgrain, we don't have the good stuff yet..the price we pay for a 'halfway fully loaded' vehicle, is a lot more than what other markets pay in some cases, bearing in mind those vehicles also have more trim levels features, more engine choices..sometimes a better gearbox..(6fwd as opposed to 5) all for a much better price, when compared dollar for dollar..not mention most dealerships outside of Trinidad honour their after-sale commitments..so if this is 'the good stuff '..we have a far way to go..

Good stuff doesn't have to be all the engine options. For one we have an engine tax that is ridiculous on larger displacement engines so why bring them to sell when most trinis will not buy?

Outside of that many manufacturers are going boosted and offer decent performance with downsized engines as well as good fuel economy along with more than two air bags and a mix of options either for you to choose or not badly optioned trim levels.

What features exactly are you looking for?

OK ok your points are well taken..where I'm coming from is through the fact that I read a lot of online reviews for these vehicles(mainly vans eh..or Utes as the Aussies call em)..as someone noted earlier, the Australian market is similar to ours..but the variety of options they get are a lot better than ours..for a better price as I said dollar for dollar..I made an out with the engines..you're right, bringing in bigger engines doesn't make sense..but various trim levels are often associated with certain engines and most times, they are the same engines we have and get.. minus so of the options..for a higher cost..

The local underdogs will need to offer more to attract customers. Popular local brands like toyota don't need to as customers will still buy at a higher price with less features. We don't give them a reason to change.

Its not only the consumers fault. A car is not a luxury in this country as it is in first world countries. Cars are a necessity for the masses. Public transport is no where as safe, reliable and comfortable than owning your own car. A seller providing a necessity rather than luxury has much more leverage.

If that's your argument then remove powered everything & air conditioning and just get an engine with seats :|

More gears means the car's gear ratio's are shorter and therefore the car will be in its power band more often. This means better fuel economy and more powah!!

I drove the swift sport on Saturday. First time ever driving a 6fwd.
Can't say I enjoy gear ratio's that short.

Would have much preferred a 5 fwd in there.

Could it be you just don't like how they tuned their 6 fwd? In the end you will get accustomed, sort of have no choice everyone is going more and more gears. BMW and Merc already on 8.

It's ok for auto, but yes, for me, I did not like it.
Highly doubt their 8 fwd is a stick shift.

Manuals going the way of the dodo unfortunately. Even in performance cars you'd be hard pressed to find manual.

I think some entry level cars would be infinitely more fun in manual.

The 8fwd is a slush box automatic. Might sound boring but it's not as bad as a slush box 4-5 speed. Ratios are nice to help with acceleration and final gears help ALOT in terms of economy.

I already have one of those
-Manual steering rack
-No ABS
-Wind up windows
-Carburetor engine with no ecu
-Manual gearbox

Only creature comfort I miss is the air conditioning

It's the easiest vehicle to work on

The fuel economy will only happen if the last couple of ratios are long enough
If the entire gear set is close, you might not get much in the way of economy at cruising speed on the highway.

Not gonna happen in Trinidad.

Dealers have the power and they know it. There's only one dealer per brand, so there will never be competition within a brand. If you not happy with Massy, go somewhere else. And if YOU not happy with Massy, there's a good chance someone else is ok with them, so tough luck if you think boycotting a dealer will happen. I've never heard a good thing about SSSL, but Kia and Audi selling like hotcakes.

If you end up with a lemon, what you gonna do. Are there any laws or regulations to protect the consumer?

The local market is too small to have much of an impact on global sales for a manufacturer anyhow.

Wait the Mazda CX-5 2.5 skyactiv here for 428? Is that really the 2.5 fully loaded price or a typo? if so then this little ute is my favorite now...ss like they drop their wallet raping pricing mentality.

Always loved these cars..wanted to just take a peek at 'em while in Ansa's showroom a while aback..but then I remembered the Range in M. Rampersad had a sign asking you not to sit in it..figured Ansa might be worse.. might put on a suit and a British accent and swing down a day.. but on a real, I heard that you don't pay installments on these cars.. something about 50% of the cost at purchase and the balance after a 3 year period or something..plus they dig up in you finances before you could even get a test drive.. is this legit??

Where did you go for the test drive? The 6th gear does nothing but save fuel when vehicle speed is over 120km/h. I like the gearbox, since I understand now where the power and is, and don't have to be shifting so much.
