Realistically what vehicle is cheap with an engine displacement over 2.5 litres? Not surprised by that Pajero price.

Is the ford focus being sold in Trinidad is a 2012 vehicle? After looking at their own website since 2013 they announce the all new 2012 ford focus. Why now they are saying the same thing. The car is a 2012 version.. Is it still a good buy?

The current model Focus came out in 2012. They have made no changes to it since. Nothing uncommon there.

I don't think it's that bad from a styling perspective. If they can keep the price point under the 240k it will sell

Hey Zuki Fan boy, what are you basing the "full of fail" on?
BTW this not a 'Grand Vitara' replacement eh. This is to compete with the 'soft-roader' market.

why pay $430k for a 2.4 Mitsubishi outlander when you can get a rav4 2.5, or even a loaded santa fe and sorento with turbo diesel? Even a turbo diesel captiva at 385k or maybe less via promo and the xtrail 2.5 for as low as $350k are better deals. What value proposition can an ugly vehicle like that with such a high price tag bring to the table? Even the Kuga 1.6T gas is significantly cheaper.

$255-270k for a Lancer GT with "evo look package"? ROFL...a 215k jetta will blow its doors off..how insulting!

At least they got the sportero price right @ 270k not bad

Not sure what extras the lancer comes with but that's not a fair comparison. The Gt is overpriced though

A lot of us buy cars on the wow/bling/feature factor, price, popularity. But do we ever look at the safety? Not just the no. of airbags, ABS, BA, ESC, but the engineering by design.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducted crash tests on most of the popular brands and models.

One of the main tests was the moderate and small overlap IIHS crash tests; which is typical of glancing impact with another car heading in the opposite direction.

There are 4 result levels: Good, Acceptable, Marginal and Poor. Take the time to review them here: https://www.youtube.com/user/iihs/videos

The results would surprise you.
e.g. the 2013 Chevy Spark - Good, the 2014 Toyota Corolla - Marginal. 2014 Kia Sorento - Poor

2013 Chevrolet Spark moderate overlap IIHS crash test

2014 Toyota Corolla small overlap IIHS crash test

2014 Kia Sorento small overlap IIHS crash test

Thanks for the info but your post isn't entirely accurate
The spark scored an acceptable in small overlap front collision.
Anyhow. ..I am trying to understand how the vw golf scored better than the passat and the jetta
also the fiesta scoring better than the mazda 2 when they share similar platforms

Small overlap is a fairly recent test (2012). Came out after the jetta and passat were launched. Golf just got a major redesign hence it passes. Golf is also on a different chassis.

It's why people abroad wondered why the latest corolla still did poorly on that test even though it was released way after that test was introduced.

Fiesta and Mazda 2 no longer share the same platform.

That isn't a delusion. ...size also plays a part in an accident that most testing bodies don't take into account.
Take any 5 star rated compact into any 5 star rated suv ....I know which vehicle I'll take my chances in.
Bigger vehicles also tend to climb over smaller ones in collisions. ... suddenly that 5 star compact doesn't feel so safe anymore.

IIHS Frontal Crash Tests explained:

Moderate overlap frontal test
When IIHS began its moderate overlap frontal tests, the majority of vehicles were rated poor or marginal. Today, the vast majority of vehicles earn good ratings. Occupant compartments are much stronger than they used to be. They hold up in a crash and allow safety belts and airbags to do their jobs.

In the moderate overlap frontal test, a vehicle travels at 40 mph toward a barrier with a deformable face made of aluminum honeycomb. The barrier face is just over 2 feet tall. A Hybrid III dummy representing an average-size man is positioned in the driver seat. Forty percent of the total width of the vehicle strikes the barrier on the driver side.

The forces in the test are similar to those that would result from a frontal offset crash between two vehicles of the same weight, each going just under 40 mph.

Small overlap frontal test
To help drive further improvements in frontal crash protection, the Institute in 2012 introduced a small overlap frontal crash test. The test is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole. This crash test is a challenge for some safety belt and airbag designs because occupants move both forward and toward the side of the vehicle.

In the small overlap frontal test, a vehicle travels at 40 mph toward a 5-foot-tall rigid barrier. A Hybrid III dummy representing an average-size man is positioned in the driver seat. Twenty-five percent of the total width of the vehicle strikes the barrier on the driver side.

Most modern cars have safety cages encapsulating the occupant compartment and built to withstand head-on collisions and moderate overlap frontal crashes with little deformation. At the same time, crush zones help manage crash energy to reduce forces on the occupant compartment. The main crush-zone structures are concentrated in the middle 50 percent of the front end. When a crash involves these structures, the occupant compartment is protected from intrusion, and front airbags and safety belts can effectively restrain and protect occupants.

Small overlap frontal crashes primarily affect a vehicle's outer edges, which aren't well protected by the crush-zone structures. Crash forces go directly into the front wheel, suspension system and firewall. It is not uncommon for the wheel to be forced rearward into the footwell, contributing to even more intrusion in the occupant compartment and resulting in serious leg and foot injuries. To provide effective protection in small overlap crashes, the safety cage needs to resist crash forces that aren't tempered by crush-zone structures. Widening these front-end structures also would help.

Just to bear in mind IIHS points out:

Frontal crash test results can't be used to compare vehicle performance across weight classes. That's because the kinetic energy involved in the moderate overlap and small overlap frontal tests depends on the speed and weight of the test vehicle. Thus, the crash is more severe for heavier vehicles.

Given equivalent frontal ratings, the heavier of two vehicles usually offers better protection in real-world crashes. In 2009, IIHS demonstrated this principle with a series of tests in which small cars were crashed into larger cars, all of which had good frontal ratings in the moderate overlap test.
