I think it's also the fact that it easier to get a mechanic to work on Japanese cars. Cuz let's be honest, unless it's a tiida or AD wagon you talking about, all the parts for new cars expensive regardless of where it from. The price difference between euro and jap not nearly as large as it used to be.

Yes..shocking isnt it?

Just my experience after owning 3 euros..last two valued for x dollars but market would only purchased at a lower price than its actually worth...its also same for alot of Asian cars..

Its lack of desireability what really drives dwn prices

Tiida, Sentra and Wingroad should be selling for $100 ..... and all non-turbo Subarus

Had a 2002 Audi a4 that was working fine and I let it go for $65,000 back in 2009 simply because no one wanted to buy it. A guy tried to lowball me and I said no way. He actually said he rather buy a ad wagon for less, has less miles, cheaper to service and get a "new" number plate.
Euros have a really bad resale here. It is what it is. The other day on the forum had a 1 year old a6. New cost 575k. Man was selling for 390 for months and that seemed to be a hard sale. I'm sure if he sold it he ended up selling for less than that 390 too.

You not making any sense. You say in Trinidad people think euros have no resale but that the euros do hold their value locally. Then you go on to say you get less than the value when you trying to resell. What you really trying to say?

You just explained what I meant...

People are forced to lower prices to resell the used euros...selling price does not reflect true market value...clearer?

If not take that up with guardian insurance as this was explained to me...and it makes sense

If you are forced to sell at a lower price then the euro does not hold value locally.

For me a euro, especially the more expensive ones with newer technologies tend to call for parts just after 5 years.
Euro parts are also generally more expensive and availability is also a bit of a problem (could be because less of them are sold so the market for parts is smaller)
I source all my euro parts from three locations cause trying to get it any where else is impassible
On the flipside the aftermarket parts tend to be of higher quality or the same as the original :-)

No Cruise Control
No Ipod Cable
No Dual Zone A/C (Regular Climatic)

You abused that "EXCEPT" eh!

Lol sorry pal... it's really hard to sell a down spec'd vehicle when u're accustomed to all the luxuries lol

I try but it ain't seem I tryin hard enough

But on the bright side... The Trendline Jetta has the same safety, road handling and turbo-supercharged power! Still with a lot more features than a $210 Corolla and a $220 Civic

Dual Zone A/C
Ipod Cable
Center Handrest?

True but in the 220k elantra and 210k 1.6 cruze they both have the mighty leather seats, push button start and the glorious tilt/slide sunroof.

My point was not only in trinidad euros hold no resale. They tend to have a higher base price and depreciate faster

This should play perfectly into your plans of buying good cars for cheap as you repeatedly state in this forum.

In Europe, Euro cars tend to depreciate really really slowly. VW group cars for example are really high up on the list when thinking resale. So is not every where that euro's really expensive and depreciate faster.

My review on the low spec Jetta

Cruise Control - kinda a waste in Trinidad unless it's adaptive.
Dual Zone A/C - nice comfort feature but I guess the passenger will just suffer as everyone will just have to be my zone. :)
Ipod Cable - doesn't the Jetta have bluetooth Audio streaming?
Center Handrest - poor soul who has to sit in the centre I think the headrest is the least of their problems :D
Parking Sensors - they cost $2000 aftermarket if it is really that important
No fogs - would make me a little upset but then again I'm becoming a little lazy and just use the Auto light function permanently so wouldn't really notice :)

So for its price not a bad deal. I would take it over any competitor.

On car resale...

- I don't want a Nissan b14 or new equivalent
- i don't want a Toyota corolla, Yaris, or Rav 4

So I will take my poor resale value for a more fun drive, nicer interior materials, safety, power etc. But that's me! :)

Actually the resale on these new jettes may not be as bad compared to the rest of the euros. It's desirable enough with a low enough price point to begin with. Should be easier to find people willing to pay closer the the value when that time comes

Let's be real. The higher the initial cost of the car the harder a sell of it used afterwards. How many trinis you know would buy a used S5 for 390K? Chances are it's even easier to buy it new. This goes for expensive Japanese cars as well. I don't see used Camrys, Accords or Fugas selling like hot cake anywhere close to their original prices.
