^^what Silvermike got is what a Stock B16A from the factory should get

Hear what for a FWD without LSD estimate 10% drivetrain losses
For FWD with LSD Estimate 15%
For RWD try 15-20%
For AWD try 25%

FWD loses are closer to 20% for manual. I have never heard of LSD having a substantial amount more losses than open dif.

Silvermike's figures are more than a stock B16A from what I've seen before. It's about right for a B16A with the basic bolt-on mods. Or are you considering bolt-ons as "stock"?

I think those #s are a little on the low side.. I'd say FWD manual would be about 15% minimum.

My baleno is rated at 76 at the flywheel and put down 61atw. that's a 25% loss which for an auto with 90,000 km on it is pretty good.

Side note: Installing a lightened flywheel and lightweight crankshaft underdrive pulley will reduce the drivetrain losses so technically you SHOULD see an increase in the WHP with changing these, right?

I know when they installed a big brake kit on a car on one of those shows on Speed the WHP dropped so to me when you do lighten those things it'll cause the power output to increase. *shrug*

Found this article and it seems we're all wrong.
http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/power3.htm

Converting wheel bhp to flywheel bhp and vice versa
To reflect the fact that % losses are high for low powered cars and vice versa I use the following equations which have been found to correlate well with real world transmission losses.

FWD cars - add 10 bhp to the wheel figure and divide the result by 0.9

RWD cars - add 10 bhp to the wheel figure and divide the result by 0.88

4WD cars - add 10bhp to the wheel figure and divide the result by 0.84

To estimate the expected wheel bhp from a known flywheel bhp just reverse the equations

FWD - multiply flywheel power by 0.9 and then deduct a further 10 bhp

RWD - multiply flywheel power by 0.88 and then deduct a further 10 bhp

4WD - multiply flywheel power by 0.84 and then deduct a further 10 bhp

Using the above calculations....
sr20ve is 187bhp = 158whp
I made 169whp = 199bhp

Silvermike put down 145whp = 172bhp
Sock B16A is 160bhp??? = 134whp

How hard was it to locate a sr20ve and matching gearbox ... did the cost of both run you 10k or less? Thanks ... Looking to do something similar obviously :P

No offence to sr18 primera correct me if i am wrong that 169 u made was when the engine was dead cold u had put 2 fans to cool the engine and then made a pull and got 169
cause ur figure before the cooling was 159 to 160
am i write or wrong

That's correct. Not dead cold... it was warmed up, but yes it was after switching off and letting the fans cool the engine for awhile. Back to back runs with the same settings I started seeing lower figures which ment the engine was getting heat soaked and causeing the lower numbers. The 169hp run is comparable to the 157hp run made when I drove on the dyno after my car was parked up for an hour.

The other thing I learnt is the fuel doesn't have a high enough octane level to push the tuning further. 2* ignition advance caused pinging. I actually gained power from 2* retard.

JWT, no offense taken.

Much much better! Better than any bolt-on I've done. And the gain in the midrange, even at partial throttle, is very noticeable.

heh, my intake cam has almost the same duration 232deg as opposed to 240deg and the exhaust is cam in the swift is 224 deg as opposed to your 227deg high lift VTEC cam so I kind *do* have 1/2 VTEC :D :P

dunno.. definitely not as much as the VTEC lobe tho. I also think the ramp on the VTEC lobe is a lot sharper so even tho the durations may be close the valves are open a little more throughout the cycle and will create more power.
