Please do elaborate. I am neither a VW owner or fan. It'll be good to see the flip side of all this Jetta praise :?

Lots of issues being talked about here. I know a mechanic that works at the local dealer that said they are having a lot of issues with them as well.

Just curious but how many of the posters with issues in that thread own a mk6 Jetta? If you read it through you'll see the previous model as the one with the issues.

In it I post alot about potential issues based on recalls in other countries but the issues seen abroad haven't shown up locally.

Let's put Mazda out of their misery, and give them an early burial. I seeing a lot of the new Toyota rav 4 on the road....I hear they selling out as soon as they get stock. Like this SUV winning a lot of buyers. How the tuners feel about the Rav 4? It seems at the price point most people grabbing it up. How is it features wise, comfort, engine/power?

Put Mazda out of their misery because? I'm still waiting on the elantra specs that the 6 didn't have to be posted.

Some of you guys running with perception. Fact is people here buy the cheapest option. No surprise rav4 sells cuz it is one of the cheapest SUVs to buy. Sportage and rav4 galore basically.

Plus iz Toyota!

Bunny I'm guessing many people here never tried driving the Elantra and Mazda 6 either. Probably wouldn't have even been a discussion in that case.

I have to disagree with you on the Rav 4, try to get them decently spec'd and they are not that cheap. I have no issues with Toyota, but I just don't see any value for money with most if not, all of their range. The very cheap small SUVs down here seem to be the sportage, tucson, and the vitara.

I was thinking most aren't optioned out and are bought at 266k. That's why I think they are selling as that price puts them in the range of tucsons, sportages but with the good ole Toyota name.

I don't know about a full feature list but does the locally sold Mazda 6 have reverse camera, DRLs, electric driver seats with memory function and cooling.
Just a few off the top of my head that are usually found on higher classed vehicles that the cerato does have, not too familiar with the elantra.

I have also found people are more likely to complain when the car is more expensive.

When you buy a new Audi you will accept nothing less than perfect (as you should). I think VW is in a similar situation because of car prices in T&T. So customers complain about even small stuff that they wouldn't complain about in a Nissan or Toyota.

A lot of my friends drive Nissans, Toyotas, Kias and they will tell you how great it is with no issues etc etc. When I drive their car, the car is far from working well. They just don't complain.

Side of the road mechanics love to complain about Euros. They only get to touch most Euros when they are old and no longer religiously services. Which you need to do on a Euro tbh particularly with those turbo engines

LOL men beating up easy in here. A few posts back the mazda 6 was discussed and the features were itemized. In summary these are the feats the mazda lacks in shameful comparison to the likes of the Korean twins ie. Elantra/Cerato:

1) flex steer system
2) sunroof
3) leather seats
4) power driver's seat
5) lip spoiler
6) factory installed front parking sensors
7) factory installed rear parking sensors
8 ) reverse camera
9) LED running lights
10) mud guards
11) fog lights

Mazda 6 advantage:

1) BOSE sound system
2) 2.0 skyactiv-g motor

IIRC.

Now if the $312k price tag is obviously stale by now (let's use it anyway) consider its $110k more expensive than the Kia and $102k more than the most fully equipped Elantra.

I would sure like to know what value proposition this Mazda brings to the table though to justify this gap. Personally, I rather a more fully equipped compact sedan than a basic mid-size box.

Now if we leave our shores and consider an international comparison between mid-size sedans, the fully equipped models I reckon the said disadvantaged mazda 6 here may very well get my #1 pick. But that's just me..

I disagree there. Sportage and Rav4s have a wide price gap. Nevermind you get more for your money with the Sportage.
I've seen just as much as base Rav4s around as mid-high spec on the roads. (roughly 400gran) With respect to problems:
My mid-spec 2007 Rav4 has had its share of issues despite being regularly serviced. Steering rack x2. alternator woes up till this week. belt tensioners x3. ABS/Speed Sensor x 1. I probably got a bad Rav4 or something *shrug*
Hopefully the newer model doesnt have that much issues.
Old man's 2010 Camry never had any problems for the 3 years so far though. Neither did his '86 KE70.

Don't think the new cerato comes with sunroof or leather. The flex steer also has been described as a gimmick in many reviews.

^^^ actually the flex steer(didn't know it had a name) is the one thing i hate on my gf's Rio and the Optima I drove.. steering feels unnatural and like its on those old car racing arcade games. The first batch of 6's were lower spec, they only imported 6 just for the launch. Options have changed will post them after confirmed.
this is the point...flex steer is not a 'feature' per se. neither is a spoiler lol.

and the original point was that someone said they chose a Elantra over a 6 because of price/features....my question was if the person compared those two how come they didn't just buy a bigger Korean car like a Sonata or a Optima(or Jap or Euro for that fact).....since they clearly had a 300-350k budget. The reason I would say is because they wanted a smaller car and wanted maximum features in a compact...so obviously they wouldn't buy a 6, they would buy a Jetta or an Elantra lets say.
I will not drive a Elantra,Jetta, Corolla,Mazda 3 etc.. because I like a mid -size sedan...i am just sayin the posters logic isn't adding up comparing those 2 cars.
Likewise an Elantra won't make my shopping list, the only 'compact' that might would be the C-Class and that just because I like it, though i can't justify the spending right now, yet.

I sincerely wish the RAV4 2.5 loaded was in the $370k range though. The interior space is not impressive IMO and I have a dislike for those tiny sunroofs in comparison to the panoramic version found in the Tucson and Sportage. Other than that, the motor makes up for many of its shortcomings.

I would consider a 3 if the new model was available now just because it probably handles better.

You are probably right Allergic has probably crossed 30,000 Km already with his MK 6 jetta and the cabin air-filter (wear and tear part) has already gone bad and needed to be replaced. These cars starting to sound very unreliable. Based on this information we should all be throwing our money at Toyota for we next vehicle yes!

MK 6 jetta has been here since late 2011 ... the average Km per year in Trinidad is around 25000 Km per year. That means there are people already crossing 50,000 Km already.

not fanboyism just politically correct, Never said it was better than the other cars in the class. Its all depends of what you looking for.

Cheap + can take real licks = corolla
Classy + can take licks = civic
Amazing handling/driving experience = Mazda 3
Fast/good handling + bit more upscale = jetta
Bang for buck + features (like real features) = elantra/cerato

Jetta isn't the perfect car in its class but they aint breaking down en mass after 30,000 Km or even 50,000 Km

What part of that is upscale?
The MK5 maybe, but not the MK6.
It's cheap plastic all around.

Soft touch dash, infotainment with touch screen, leather wrapped gear knob, steering and hand brake, cushioned feel to the levers and knobs. Compared to other small sedans in its class it is, compared to Audi, BMW and merc its not.

Everything is relative ...

Men be reading US reviews and then posting oui.

Only thing different between the LOCAL mk6 Jetta interior and the mk5 is that the mk5 had padded cloth in the door trim vs the mk6 with a hard cloth. That's it. That's from a mk5 owner comparing vehicles side by side.

well done sir. like you said everything is relative so the honda civic is classy because its pretty and as a result its really expensive  ...as compared to the equivalent corolla,cerato/elantra....this trini pricing thing man...
