Breaking News

Four-time Jeff Gordon will make 2015 his last full season in the Sprint Cup Series.

Gordon, who entered NASCAR’s premier series full time in 1993, made the announcement Thursday morning via a news release in which he dispelled the notion that he’d be retiring full-time.

“As a race car driver, much of what I’ve done throughout my life has been based on following my instincts and trying to make good decisions,” Gordon said in the release.

“I thought long and hard about my future this past year and during the offseason, and I’ve decided 2015 will be the last time I compete for a championship. I won’t use the ‘R-word’ because I plan to stay extremely busy in the years ahead, and there’s always the possibility I’ll compete in selected events, although I currently have no plans to do that.

“I don’t foresee a day when I’ll ever step away from racing. I’m a fan of all forms of motor sports, but particularly NASCAR. We have a tremendous product, and I’m passionate about the business and its future success. As an equity owner in Hendrick Motorsports, I’m a partner with Rick (Hendrick) and will remain heavily involved with the company for many years to come. It means so much to have the chance to continue working with the owner who took a chance on me and the incredible team that’s stood behind me every step of the way.

“Racing has provided a tremendous amount of opportunity that’s been extraordinarily rewarding and fulfilling in my life. The work we’re doing with the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation will continue to be extremely important to me. Outside the race car, my passion is pediatric cancer research, and my efforts will remain focused there when I’m no longer driving.

“I’ll explore opportunities for the next phase of my career, but my primary focus now and throughout 2015 will be my performance in the No. 24 Chevrolet. I’m going to pour everything I have into this season and look forward to the challenge of competing for one last championship. To everyone at NASCAR, my teammates, sponsors, competitors, friends, family, members of the media and especially our incredible fans, all I can say is thank you.”

Gordon, 43, has 92 victories and 77 pole positions in the Sprint Cup Series. He ranks third behind Richard Petty (200 wins) and David Pearson (105) on the all-time victory list.

Breaking News

NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kurt Busch has been suspended indefinitely, according to ESPN's Marty Smith and other reports.
Kent County (Delaware) Commissioner David Jones ruled Friday that "it is more likely than not" that Busch "committed an act of abuse" against former girlfriend Patricia Driscoll during their dispute last Sept. 26, 2014, at Dover International Speedway.
In the full ruling in favor of Driscoll's request for a protective order barring Busch from contacting her, Jones said Busch "committed an act of domestic violence" against Driscoll "by manually strangling her by placing his left hand on her throat, while placing his right hand on her chin and face and smashing her head into the wall of his motor home, thereby recklessly placing (Driscoll) in reasonable fear of physical injury."
Busch has not been charged criminally. The Delaware Attorney General's Office, which has had the case since early December, has not decided whether or not Busch will be charged.
NASCAR has not yet confirmed the suspension. After the announcement of the commissioner's findings, NASCAR spokesman David Higdon said, "We’re completing our review of the supplemental disposition of the commissioner."

Breaking News

Kyle Busch suffers a compound fracture in his leg after his car hits a wall. He will miss the Daytona 500.

Statement from Joe Gibbs Racing Regarding
Injury Status of Kyle Busch

Daytona Beach, Florida (Feb. 21, 2015) – Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 54 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), sustained a compound fracture of the right lower leg in an accident during Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Additionally, Busch suffered a mid-foot fracture of his left foot in the accident.

Busch was transported to a local hospital for treatment immediately following the accident and is currently undergoing surgery on his right leg.

Busch’s injuries will sideline him for an undetermined period of time. Veteran Matt Crafton will serve as the interim driver for Busch’s No. 18 Toyota during Sunday’s 57th Daytona 500. An interim driver has not been determined for the following race March 1 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, or for any future races.

Damn Dillon, just had to louse things up.

Congrats to Joey though. Have to admit the last couple of laps the writing was on the wall as far as that being the result.

Speedweeks this year was basically a case of if you could get in front you could block as if your life depended on it and it would work 90% of the time.

Good Day fellas ... well I took the opportunity this year to attend the DAYTONA 500 and definitely, it lives up to the name of the "greatest american race" ... Its my second live Nascar Event that I have attended and I have always heard about how great the 500 is and it was really amazing to be there and witness this restrictor plate race !!! ... My boy came in 5th but backed that up with a win today at Atlanta ... So far, this season has started off great (not for Gordon though) and we will definitely see some crazy races in the near future

Havick, Logano, Earnhardt Jr & shockingly Truex Jr have all been strong contenders in the earlies too and seeing that this will be Gordon's last year, I really hope that he can take home a couple trophies as he closes off his racing career ....

......... Onto Las Vegas next week !!!!

Damn. I hope I could attend a NASCAR race a year. Would likely have to be Homestead-Miami though. Been there before but not when NASCAR was in town. Great facility.

Joe Gibbs Racing president J.D. Gibbs is undergoing treatment for symptoms impacting brain function, possibly from past head injuries, the team announced Wednesday.
In a release, JGR said the symptoms include speech and processing issues. The eldest son of team owner Joe Gibbs will continue most of his day-to-day functions at the team’s shop in Huntersville, N.C., but his presence at the track will be limited. The team said Gibbs’ doctors believe the complications “were triggered by head injuries likely suffered earlier in life, but no specific injury was referenced or identified.”
Gibbs, who turned 46 last month, has served as president of the team since October 1997 and took a greater role in the day-to-day operations in 2004 when his father returned to the NFL for a second stint of coaching the Washington Redskins.
Gibbs has served in various roles for JGR, including as a tire changer on Dale Jarrett’s winning car in the 1993 Daytona 500, and dabbled with a driving career. He made five starts in the Xfinity Series from 1998-99 with a best finish of 20th at South Boston Speedway. He started eight races in the Camping World Truck Series, crashing out of four, and he made 16 K&N Series starts in 1999, finishing 19th in the points standings.
Gibbs also played football for William and Mary from 1987-90 as a quarterback and defensive back. The team release said Gibbs “has always enjoyed an active life participating in several sports including mountain biking, snowboarding, football, racing, and other extreme-type sports.”
In a statement, NASCAR chairman Brian France said, “All members of the NASCAR and France family extend our thoughts and prayers to J.D. Gibbs and his loved ones. We’ve all watched J.D. grow up within our community, and he always has represented himself, his family, the entire Joe Gibbs Racing organization and NASCAR with the utmost professionalism, enthusiasm and energy. We wish him the best during this time and eagerly anticipate his recovery.”

I was afraid of this when I noticed the Xfinity Series races despite being advertised to show on FOX Sports 1 not actually showing.

Checked the schedule for tomorrow and confirmed what I thought would happen is going to happen. Race will not air on our FOX Sports Racing.
