They used MB technology to develop this new engine. For reliability testing it was subjected to the Mercedes Benz durability test for diesel engines .... considered to be the worlds toughest examination for new engines. It passed with flying colors.... no surprise as SSangyoung wanted to make it even more reliable and durable than the previous motor which was built by Mercedes Benz.

ek4ever, sounds great for the price. What i their warranty like? Saw online that in AU and UK its 5 yrs unconditional. If that's the case, its an excellent option.

Yes Damien. That is correct. But in the first year, is just fluids and filter they changing. The first 1000km, they check you for free, then 5,000 then 15,000km. So you might be getting one service or so for the year free. It should be free service for the life of the warranty, maybe just pay for labour, then you would have a deal on your hands. The amt of Kia they selling they can more than afford too.

Unfortunately we don't get that ... it's 2yrs/50,000kms whichever comes first.

Question: have they brought the 2013 ford fiesta yet? that 1.0 l ecoboost engine plus the great handling seems to be the draw in that supermini class...looks damn good too....like a very poor man's aston....:)

Test drove the Actyon Sports Pickup today ....

This vehicle is extremely comfortable ... so quiet I could barely hear the engine running. Did a run through streets of POS then up over Lady Young to Barataria and then back into POS. Another thing with this vehicle gear changes are so smooth you don't even feel them .... almost like having a CVT. There's a bit of turbo lag off the mark but the torque quickly comes on and this thing just shoots off ... smooth power delivery. The tiptronic works great ... used the steering wheel shift controls going down from the look out.... 2nd gear and no need for brakes.

The ride is exceptionally solid and smooth ... only problem was this test vehicle wasn't prepped for driving and had high pressure in the tyres ..... so a bit unsettled on rippled surfaces. Steering is good for a pickup, has great maneuverability you feel like you're driving a car. Heading up from savannah to look out this vehicle just cruised up the hill ... no effort .... apparently there's 190Nm of torque off idle. It absorbed bumps and potholes really good ... no crashing and banging like the Japs, probably due to it's coil spring multi-link rear setup. Brakes were solid good pedal feel and easy modulation .... it has discs all around.

Cruising at 100km/h the ride is smooth and extremely quiet .... engine turning at just over 1500rpm in 6th gear. Mashing down will drop to 4th and damn this thing takes off.... 140 to 160km/h in no time. This is a fantastic engine/transmission combo. It also has over-rev protection so you can't accidentally downshift and redline the engine.

As for creature comforts ... cabin is spacious, padded armrests, great A/C and excellent view outwards.

What's missing ... well a grab handle for the drivers side and a telescoping steering adjustment and more info from the trip computer like miles to empty. A sunroof would also make it perfect.

Overall very impressed with the Actyon ..... didn't get to test the 4 wheel capabilities but wouldn't doubt it being very capable. Has a summer and winter setting for the drive modes .... Sterling should be selling thousands of these.

Anyone in the market for a pickup should look into this Actyon .... and dealer rounding down price to $210,000 on the road from $213K.

glad for the review on the Actyon I am not into pickups so much but I will consider this as a family van for those hardware and pricesmart runs sometime in the near future. According to the UK website, there are a lot more features that are available so if Sterling can bring the loaded model for like $225-$230k I'm sure it would also increase appeal.

Sterling seems to be just focused on selling their Mercedes-Benz brand and everything thing else is just to supplement that. They currently only displaying MB in their showroom and hoping to get another showroom for their other brands (Skoda, Fiat, Ssangyong) but they are missing out on selling some quality vehicles that can challenge the establishment dominated by japs.

Those fiats are nice warm hatches if not hot hatch material :)...wonder if parts are easy to source and the level of reliability ? no one knows about the new fiestas and when we'll get them? The fiesta st is a beast of a mini hatch which would do well down here...competing directly w the swift sport...

True. The sales guy said that they're gonna be getting more aggressive with marketing the other brands. From what I gather though one reason why they've been so low profile is that when people come in and test drive the vehicles they usually buy it .... so basically they don't even have to work to sell them ... same thing goes for the Skoda and Fiat brands. But is would make a big difference if Sterling were to highlight the after sales support for these brands ... build more confidence among the public.

A south location would also help.

From what I've heard Sterling's after sales support for their non-Mercedes Benz clients leaves a lot to be desired as their focus is on the MB brand. Was your experience different?

Yeah it's true, the non mercedes sales support ain't to hot. I think they trying to sell to many brands, and don't have the manpower and systems in place to effectively deal with it. But sterling is Mercedes ( their luxury brand), so that is where they will throw their weight naturally.

I can speak for both MB and non MB owners (I dont have an MB but I interact regularly with owners at the dealership). They tend to deal with you more pertaining to your status not what brand you drive. If you are a big boy (gov't, opposition, big business, etc) they will go the extra mile with you. But new money MB owners are lumped together with non MB owners and you get delays in service for your vehicle, parts taking forever (they were never really ordered in the first place) and all the regular weak service from a dealership you would expect.

But on the positive side you get some creature comforts I dont experience with other dealerships (I also have a Southern Sales vehicle). If I ever give them my vehicle for the day, even if it is just to change a wiper blade, I get it back washed and vacuumed. You develop a very personal relationship with their staff, almost like if it is you are dropping off your child at school. You get to know all the service team by name and they know your particulars, you know the mechanic/straightener/electrician by name and you have personal contact numbers for them. And as a result of that they become very accommodating. I dont have to wait weeks for an appointment like other dealerships. Ideally your are supposed to book a time but if I have a fault tomorrow, I can drive in Monday morning and tell them that they need to fix this now because I cant wait for the end of the week for an appointment and they will try their best to slot me in and fix the fault by the end of the day.

Habit7 that is what you call service. That alone will make me buy a MB. They also have a 24hr hotline, in the case of a breakdown, they will send out a mechanic to your vehicle to see if they can troubleshoot the problem, if they can't they tow your vehicle back to the dealership to fix the issue. I have friends who have MB, but they are all professionals....doctors, lawyers, dentists etc and they get excellent service and parts they don't have they rush it in (rush for them is a week) , where a courtesy car is given to you while your vehicle is down. If you can afford a MB, this is the pleasure of owning a German luxury vehicle. Sterling service used to suck and they used to park your vehicle in the road when they had to service because they had no space.....it's all changed now, I would say in the last 5 yrs as the competition has grown and they recently built a larger service building to accommodate all the vehicles. Saving my jar of pennies, to own me one of them German machines soon.....lol.
