im not concerned with resale value. im simply asking from anyone who has experience with this car to tell me how it drives, specific problems, general experience and any other things to look out for. why is it that people who do not have experience with the car always have to write a comment and waste my time. some of yal are just clearly bored and have nothing to do

You would be surprised to find out how much people who actually purchased brand new nissans within recent years who carry their cars back to NM to service (customer retention for service is low). When bamboo mentality people can afford a new car, its usually a "high resale value" unit which eventually will get service and parts from you guessed it....the bamboo!

What about the Skoda Octavia owner? Parts you say? It services in the Company and if the part is too much he can simply buy it online and ship to skybox. That is what I did with the Jetta when a taxi man cleared away my l/s rear view mirror.

Do not support the local racket. Buy new, buy non Japanese cars!

Local new Nissans are crap to start with, I drive one and regret it everyday

Why is it that people come to a forum for advice when they could just buy the car since they're getting 5 years free service and have "nothing to worry about"?

I know that. I was jus suggesting that they're probably trying to sell out the existing stock with discounted prices to make way for an upcoming facelift model...

It will suffer the fate of the 4(?) other generations of ford focuses in trinidad. Nice cars, but parts and maintenance is a killer. Dont worry though, when you buy it for 209k, 2-3years from now youll prolly get like 90k for it.
Can't comment on resale value or personal opinion, but there have been many reviews from recognised automotive sources stating that the Focus has a great chassis (handles well), and has also bested many other cars in comparison tests.
I can say though that after checking with the local dealer, they indicated that the 1.6L engine we get here MUST use premium fuel. Just something to bear in mind when doing your own comparisons.

Yes the focus supposed to be the best handling car in its class, the 1.6 engine is a bit average. I spoke to the sales person and he said manufactured in Germany ... But most of the times these guys dunno what they talking bout so take that with a grain of salt.

Hahahahahahahaha ......who building a Focus in Germany. These sales reps need an Academy Award for best actor. You don't need to lie to sell cars.

That's the point the man making. You should be able to get parts at the dealership. Plugs, sensors, filters, etc.

I just read a thread here on tuner about Toyota service.......never me and that bunch of "don't know how to return calls" people. They don't know they head from their toe. Thank god the brand sells itself, because the reps don't need to at all, it just breeds incompetence and laziness. If I was getting that sort of runaround, I have my lawyers on speed dial, you will see how quick they move. My first vehicle was a Toyota, but I will NEVER buy another Toyota again. #1 brand in Trinidad....#100 when it comes to customer service and service.

I had a different experience with a rep at the north branch. I found the guy very knowledgeable about the cars and their full spec's and he let me know exactly what was going on at each step. Dunno about the after sales service because after test driving the jetta the following week that poor corolla didn't stand a chance ... It was like VW brought an RPG to a fist fight with Toyota.

Drchaos......I guess you were sold with that Jetta after tasting that Euro performance....lol. But I can't handle that stress from Toyota and Neal and Massy (the stories from there worse I hear), rather go with a luxury Euro brand, at least if they mess up you can get recourse.

but not even in the states people buy those parts at the stealership.
most of the regular repair parts ARE available at the dealership anyway since they buy from local importers

I can say from my experience that over one yr later massy has not disappointed wrt service and total cost of ownership. Average service fee is 700 every 5k. Last service was in Jan. Only did 3k ssince so sometime in Sept Oct i will service again

$700 for 5k service? VW not that bad then I does pay about $1100 for 8k service (5000 miles).

Thats 14 cents a Km vs 13.75 cent a Km

What car you have nissan, hyundai, subaru? Seems it cheaper for oil change with a VW than the Japanese/Korean equivalent!

like i said previously i only go stealership for an absolutely necessary service like the 20 k service or something where they do alot of different things...leaving my car overnight just to clean injectors doesnt make sense..and changing oil, filters etc can be done by a regular mechanic imho...once you read your manual and get the right parts you can save them dollars...i drive a 2010 corolla btw...

Take your car into the dealership during your warranty period, then after you can always get a mechanic outside. They don't like to honor your warranty, if you don't do your services with them and on time. That's my take on it

i concur. but consider what your warranty covers as well and if it makes a difference. honouring your warranty sometimes just leads to endless runarounds and the firm saying they not to blame is your fault and round and round you go...a new car should really not give you many issues once you follow your maintenance schedules and you not ricing it up with big rims and what not...

Unless they want to hear from my lawyers....I won't be getting a runaround. My warranty is a legal agreement between the car company and myself. I do my services and my vehicle will provide me with hassle free driving for the stipulated period, that's the agreement. I don't play...and I usually let my sales and service reps know this before I buy anything. I talk once and if nothing is done, I document it, then take it to my lawyer. Within 24hrs I usually get the required remedy for the problem.

Good to know there are people that think like me, I go the extra step and show them the portfolio in my cars with copies of all correspondence, bills etc that I keep in each vehicle, when I spent money I expect to get the value of that dollar. I don't rip off people I don't see why they should rip me off.

I had one issue with a company had a problem with A they changed B,C and D the problem was still there when I collected the vehicle and I was charged for it,I handed the service manager a copy of the portfolio he looked at me and said the problem will be resolved, I got a car to drive till the problem was fixed and a free service.

That's getting your moneys worth.

They famous for changing all the wrong parts, then charging you. If I come to you with problem X, and the work you do does not remedy problem X, I am not paying you. You does have to wonder what the so called "trained mechanics" do when they try to diagnose a problem. Any good mechanic worth their salt, can diagnose and fix a problem, based on your car's signs and your presenting complaint. Not change a bunch of parts and hope it's solved. Without that diagnostic computer, I think those mechanics would be clueless. So for me when warranty done, goodbye dealership. Then again, I don't keep cars past 5 yrs, so for the most I would have a year or so out of warranty. Any parts they change within the warranty period, even if it is the wrong parts, they change on their wallet. Just make sure, I have a courtesy car.....or I will rent a car myself and pass the bill onto the dealership.

Ever was in that situation though? Where u had a problem, they changed parts that were 'bad' and still ended up with the same problem? Did u in fact tell them you not gonna pay for that? If so, What was their response ?
