Mind you with the Audi being the cheapest, they have the longest warranty of the 3 brands...how's 4 years for your liking, compared to 3 for BMW and 2 for Mercedes.

Damn right. Nice choices in that segment but boy does Audi know how to make good looking vehicles...especially nowadays with all these new segments they creating....merc is nice too but not as expansive in terms of range...and perhaps a tad too pricey but they still have their brand image to help them...

In that price range you'd still probably want to drive them before saying that for sure. I do agree the E class is a great car though. Looks better with the lights off to me though.

I thought all those things about warranty, nice interior etc and figured the A6 must be a really good deal. But drive the 3 and tell me which you like. :)
Also throw into that mix the Jag diesel at 650k. If you want a nice interior, that definitely is a competitor. Or a fully loaded 328i if you want better performance and little less comfort/size.
Curious also to feel the new Merc suspension. E class sport model supposed to be stiffer than what they brought before no? Wondering how good that will be for trini.

The A6 would be the run away winner in this segment. I guess it depends on how you like your Euros. The Mercedes people might stay with Mercedes and BMW like wise. Never drove them, so wouldn't know. But I would consider after sale support and service and that would push the Mercedes in front of the BMW. Not BMW fault though, but the local dealers here, that killing this beautiful vehicle. If the dealers were better, I would consider the BMW, because that was always my dream car since a child. Thank you Richmond Motors and Southern Sales before that..... for killing my dream.

Yeah guys, I sat many nights contemplating a 3 series purchase but my better judgment and reviews from present and past BMW owners made me think twice about purchasing. My money either going to Audi or Mercedes.

Gastly, that K9 looking like a $405,000 if it ever come here. And at that price, your options would be better looking at a European vehicle. I love Kia, but I would never spend that much on a Kia. The Optima is the most expensive I would go regarding a Kia. Nevertheless...a beautiful ride.

Actually the K9 competes with the A8 and 7 series in terms of class of vehicle so i expect it would cost quite a bit more than 405k
For A6 and 5 series you would probably compare the K7 (Cadenza)
Just for info sake

I think the europeans and particularly the men from bavaria and ingolstadt have some serious experience in the luxury and performance dept., so once you talking that kinda money dont see the point in going japan or korea...same money you spending but you getting more performance, luxury and same maintenance costs im sure...

We need to start bringing electric cars here. Forget all this gas and diesel and use a resource that won't burn a hole in our pocket. Clean environment and possibly less car issues since no fuel based engine will be required. But being 3rd world and all we may not get that here for another 20 years

Hold ya horses on all that electric stuff.....jus remember the car starts off substantially more expensive regardless of market or manufacturer. Unless the Gov't does something else to bring down price other than engine tax it won't really be cheaper.
Also the better electric cars normally utilise some kind of internal combustion engine. A purely electric car is not viable as yet for anything other than short commutes.
Then add to the fact that if you have a purely electric car instead of NP raping you...T&TEC will

We need to develop a car based on a steam engine....lol. So true though electric cars have more upfront cost, I think that is so because the tech is still new. Either way, we still getting rape.

In Trinidad every drive is a short commute.

Is anything stopping a person from buying and importing a purely electric vehicle here? From a customs standpoint that is.

You missing the point, the cheapest all electric car is the Nissan Leaf at @ $29,000 US (yea the one that looks like a March) in the US market a 3 series bmw starts at $32,000 just to put it in perspective. Fuel is still relatively cheap in T&T so paying so much more for so much less car because there is no engine tax doesn't make sense. That's like buying a Yaris for the price of a Camry so u won't have to fill up at NP or pay engine tax.
Maybe one day it will be viable but not yet.

That just sounds funny.

I've actually been quite pleased with BMW at ANSA. Haven't had a single problem with respect to their service. Maybe it's gotton a little better now? Have had to ask them to re-check work they've done though when a problem persisted after the visit. But even then they didn't do anything that I would consider too bad.
You really need to just go test drive those vehicles dogichi. As I said, on paper, the A6 had won for me too.. then I drove it and it gets a well earned last place. I even carried an owner of a previous A6 model with me, and he also said as much as he likes audi, he'd never even consider the new A6 after that test drive. It just feels wrong. I'm guessing the 3.0T might be much better though. But the 2.0T they bring here is not my sort of vehicle.

As for electric vehicles and hybrids.. didn't Toyota test the Prius here and the results ended up that they weren't able to import them from Japan. Restriction by parent company if I was informed correctly? Had to be pretty bad for the vehicle's maintenance for them to not be willing to sell it here. Not sure I would trust just yet. What we really need are more small turbo diesels!

Your comparisons make no sense ...
Us prices and taxes have no bearing on the cost of a vehicle ...
Correct me if im wrong a BMW 3 series cost close to 400K? and about 50K of that is just MVT there is also VAT and Duty. Duty is also charged on the cc of the vehicle, an electric car would either fall into the lowest duty bracket (so you paying the same duty as a chevy spark) or maybe a lawyer could argue for you to get it duty free as the engine does not have a cc rating.

The BMW has a larger engine so high MVT, higher cc's mean more duty, Also it is considered a luxury car and therefore carries much higher mark ups than mid ranged vehicles in Trinidad. Not to mention luxury vehicles cost more to maintain, parts and service. Premium fuel would cost you round 15k a year so the cost of running and owning a BMW 3 series is very high.

The leaf has a 117 km range, there are also tesla's with over 300 mile range on their vehicles. Therefore they do make sense. The cost of charging a car battery for a full electric charge in the US is less than 3 dollars US. Trinidad electricity prices are subsidized and cheaper than the states ....

Just checked something...
It seems that running electric cars may be more expensive than super :|

http://www.teslamotors.com/goelectric#savings
Using the Tesla Model S as the subject, there's a calculator at the end of the page.

http://www.ttec.co.tt/services/tariffs/default.htm
Using the highest bracket of $0.37 per kWH, I plotted that into the calculator.

A car running on super and doing 30 mpg actually uses less gas than this car uses electricity :|

There is a PCZ White Toyota Prius parked in front of a popular radio station in POS. It appears to be brand new but I maybe wrong.
