I was going to ask how much did the engine run you. @34k, it doesn't look like it was running for some time, running the numbers, do you think it's still a good buy. Just curious given the parts and N1 block you listed.

Looking at a Precision Billet alternative or maybe a Holset replacement. The turbo actually is in good condition and is twin scroll as well but just not finding and info on the turbo powerwise and age as well. As for the cost, I think it is justified, ported head, cams, looks to have buckets, springs and retainers, valves, guides, HKS turbo setup, upgraded 50mm throttlebodies, at least a twin disc clutch, extended sump, and will know when I drop the sump what else there is, remember I also got the entire back suspension with upgraded diff and nismo arms, intercooler piping, BOV, all the gauges (HKS and Greddy), old school boost controller. Outside an engine alone is costing $15,000-$20,000, gearbox - $3-4000, clutch ???, cams, turbo setup, injectors, it all adds up. Not even taking into account the N1 block.

The fact that the condition was not the best and it was parked up for some time had me wondering but I think the parts more than warrant the cost for me. We'll see how it goes when I drop the box and get it on the engine stand and drop the sump, hoping for more goodness. You all will be first to know.

numbers don't lie. And yes, I want to know badly what's in the box. Though not adjustable those nismo arms are $$$.

I'm 80% sure that it will have forged slugs in there going by the condition of the head and parts listed, the only major concern will be the snout and whats on the end of it :)

Nah from seeing all N1 blocks the snout should be fine and with this turbo setup I doubt them japs would use the older model crank as this turbo was made for high RPM shifting no doubt. The oil pump too will be inspected and gear checked to see if stock or upgraded as I have two stock ones home, they both have silicone around them so hopefully they weren't changed and the good stuff swapped out :(. If anything I will have to save again for a Tomei replacement if need be, we'll see. ATI Damper, Greddy pulleys and an N1 water pump if it does not have one already. Time will tell I guess.

Also how can I tell if the gearbox is upgraded, are there any markings on the gears or whatnot?

No engine no. means it was a brand new block that was bought from nissan and was not a N1 engine that actually came out of a car. The good thing about it is you dont have to do an engine "change" if u catch my drift

That's what has me stumped so I leave it as what was is on the car no questions asked? I mean technically with my bottom mount turbo manifold I am non-turbo  and technically a 2.6l is really 2598cc so same 2.5 class .

Hey Ja, how come all the oxidation though, was the engine sitting in the rain for a while, even the box has it. You know your stuff but what is the story with it?

Yes seems like it took a little weather and the hoses under the intake manifold were leaking as well, seems like a typical engine from Japan though, bonnet left open and took some licks but the parts on the inside are in good condition just need a good cleaning which it will get just not splitting the engine open though just checking the bottom end.. I did some work tonight and got the gearbox off and yes it is an OS clutch, seems to be a triple but will need to remove it to remove the sump so I can check the discs same time. Looks pretty good condition-wise. The gearbox from further review looks to be stock, I haven't opened it but the only things that have red silicone on it are the filler and drain plugs, everything else looks pretty much like my other 26 box, well I have a spare in any event.

Will check the front diff when I get the sump off, but from the pics you can see the extended sump and will check the little oil I drain to see what it looks like and check for filings same time, you can never tell. Looked at both the water pump and the oil pump and they are not stock, not saying they are upgrades but they are not stock as I have old stock ones to compare. The oil pump has something engraved on it and the number of blades on the water pump is much more and is in very good condition. Now some pics,

With all those parts attached it makes u wonder y the Japs left it to take a beating like that.
If i were you i'd do a cold compression test at least to make sure everything is sealing good, as removing the sump only will only let you see the crank really, and that is providing you remove the caps

The 'story' is that a tree fell on the car right after it was done with upgrades, the car was then parked up and then people started taking things one by one. Gonna remove the clutch tonight and pop the sump and see what is what, gonna be inspecting the oil as well that I collected. Will be ordering things soon for it, ATI damper, gasket kit, silicone kit and really thinking about a big single Precision Billet replacement. Sent the turbo specs to a place GCG in Australia and they came back last night saying that from the specs it seems to be equivalent of a current GT35R and old school HKS TA4542. Precision have some nice twin scroll T4 turbos that should fit the build proper or I can go back twin but then have to worry about two turbos rather than one, hmmmm response or power. Maybe with a proper single I can have both as this head is already ported on both the intake and exhaust side :D.

Please just be careful.Importers have been either naively or maliciously bringing in contaminated vehicles that were from Fukushima. Containers here are still being scanned from radioactivity, not like you have a geiger counter home but just take some precautions. As an importer friend of mine said, fresh water doesn't oxidise like that and not on top of the gear box.

The finish in the pictures may be misleading as it is exactly like all the other engines I have seen and even the RB26 box I have at home currently. I do hear what you are saying, any thoughts on what precautionary measures I can take with cleaning even though I am already this far in the process?

I am ordering silicone replacement hoses. Not trusting any factory hoses, 4 ply replacements, proper clamps and tie straps etc.

Okay can't talk right now, in the middle of checking some stuff and pretty dirty, all I can say is Carrillo Rods and Forged pistons, bores looking like brand new :D. How can I tell if the crank is aftermarket, looks OEM but not sure, does not look like a stroker setup at all though. Gotta run and clean the sump and and mount back, bye.

Okay got some answers today wondering what else there was in the engine. Well we know the Carillo Rods,
Image
OS Giken Triple Plate Clutch Setup in excellent condition,
Image
Image
Image
Extended Oil Pickup to go with the Trust (Greddy) Sump,
Image
Image
Comparing an upgraded supposedly HKS Oil Pump to an OEM one,
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Yes Smell as I hoped, newer crank with longer snout,
Image
Image
Scrutinizing the Oil Pump, will open and clean and loctite it tomorrow,
Image
The Writing Baffles me,
Image
Image
Image
Dirty Sump with Greddy Baffle and Extended Sump,
Image
Cleaned up with Pitch Oil
Image
Image
Image
Gonna see if I can drill the oil return holes wider to aid quicker oil return to the sump, may also weld a crank case ventilation point above the baffle on the driverside.
Cleaned Silicone off for refitting,
Image
Image
Cracked the front diff open and it doesn't seem upgraded but I could be wrong, 9:37 (4.1) front diff
Image
Tomorrow i will remove the crakshaft baffling plates and will try and get some pics of the pistons, will also remove the back seal as both the back seal and oil pump gasket are being replaced as soon as, casting from the water passages already cleaned up for a better flow, they have thought of everything :D,
Image
Image

Gonna order ATI Damper, HKS Cam Gears, yes for the bling factor as they look awesome and are adjustable, full Gasket Kit, and Replacement Silicone Hose Kit. Once those are in then it is a matter of mounting and picking up some splitfire coilpacks, OEM replacement harness and some form of management i.e. Power FC / AEM / Vipec etc. Will have a better look at the pistons and crankshaft tomorrow but the bore looks really good, will get some more pics.
