Cool stuff there aaron. Chem guys make some good products.

trvs : Wide variety of polishing options out there.. and everyone favors different things. You need to try some yourself. Start with the ones that sell more and hope for the best.

So, I'm going to attempt a 1mth long sealant test. Will be single coats and although they will most likely all outlast that month, they will undoubtedly show at least a little degradation during that time, so I should get some results. Will be sealants that I have, which aren't necessarily the most common or favorites here, but it's what I got. All are pure synthetics, no hybrids. Here's what I'm thinking :

-Dark blue vehicle bonnet so I can tell if there's any depth difference.
-Will put each brand of sealant on the base specified by the manufacturer. e.g. EGP will go over SRP. Only thing I'm lacking is a Wolfgang base, but they recommend clean paint anyway. Reason I'm doing this is because it's the way most people would use them. Or do you think I should do clean base for all?
-Washing will be done with soap only from brands completely outside of the sealants used to make the test more fair. All maintenance will be done by me. No one else touching this vehicle. Will wash at least 3 times a week to try to see some sealant loss during the month.
-No rapid detailers or any other products or special cleaners (as they can run unevenly) during this time.

Hope some people will have input here as I notice many people favor sealant over waxes here.
Any suggestions?

you doing side by side comparisons with different products on each half the bonnet? or just apply and see how each one holds up over the month?

either way i await your findings!

Actually in quarters.. using 4 sealants.

Rainman : Thanks. But since I'm already into quarters I think I'll stick to the 4 I have for now. Maybe next time we could do a round two of the top 2 from first round vs Klasse and something else? We'll see. But I want to keep the area each sealant is applied to a reasonable enough size to negate problems of small splashes of chemicals or anything.. which can happen. And if the area is too small it might knock out a product pre-maturely. If it's big enough hopefully we'll be able to see it still in great condition on part and know that there is a problem.

got so much slinging all over the car (even after the excess was wiped off).... and it apparently got worse over the week.

trying out shining monkey now..... application was simple and straightforward. we'll see how this one goes

it was probably a good drop per tire....if the applicator was still moist after the first, i would go to the next tire and so on. i made sure to coat evenly, and then wiped off the excess, if any.

I got some Autoglym Instant Tire Dressing. I think I found the ultimate spray on and walk away tire dressing solution :) . So far no sling.

Also got the Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover. Worked really nice. I wiped it on and had to agitate the spots a bit then I hosed it off.

Did some polishing this weekend.

Items Used
AutoGlym Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner
Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover
Autoglym Instant Tire Dressing
Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner
Meguiars Clay Bar (Used some AG Bodywork Shampoo as clay lube. Excellent lubricity for claying)
Adam's Glass Cleaner (Best streak free glass cleaner I have ever used)

Griot's Garage 6 Inch Random Orbital Polisher
Griot’s Garage Machine Polish 3 (thanks pioneer )
Griot's Garage 6 Inch Orange Polish Pad
Griot's Garage 6 Inch Red Wax Pad
Scotch Performance Masking Tape 233+ (green)
Surf City Garage Carnauba Liquid Wax

Pic was during the polising session. Was too tired to take pics after I waxed. :drinking:

how's that prestone bug and tar working for you?

picked up this bug and tar remover at carplus. works really well with all the bugs i collect from the highway. sprays on a lil thick and you leave it there for 30 to 60 seconds, and then hose it off. cost $60 though. Image
