I think he means the inner bonnet shield, create a drain-off shield for when rain falls it will run off most of the water rather than it falling directly on the top of the engine and making a big mess. I did a similar thing with the Silvia with the URAS louver vents.

That's a "cowl induction" hood-scoop guys. Water doesn't fall in, around or near the engine. Google it in case you may have never seen one or installed one....or driven a car with one...or owned a car with one.

thanks guys...drove on it's own power for the first time in about 4-5 years over the weekend

have to finalise a few things before we can take it for a proper drive but definitely some major progress

Hey guys, I'm looking for a Holley fuel pump (red), does anyone have these locally?? I have found them online but instead of going through that, I was thinking to get it locally first.

So far I have found the blue and black, both of which push wayyyy too much fuel for my application.

Power steering almost finished, just a few leaks to sort out

Alternator hooked up and works

Carb seems to be a little too much so we are experimenting with different sizes to get it right

Front of the car will be raised a little this week

AC needs to finish up

Headlight covers re-done with fibreglass, scoop re-finished and painted

Then she's back home

Sooooo finally an update!

Car is back in my hands with a few bugs to sort out...but I was finally able to drive it!!

Coilovers feel really nice on the road, feels well planted
LOVE the shifter..makes it feel like a race car
Hood scoop allows good visability
Exhaust is super duper loud but sounds like it should
Exhaust (resonator part) is way too low and drags everywhere, will need to fix ASAP
One of the Flex-a-lite fans has a short somewhere so it cuts off, causing the temp gauge to climb
Carb needs alot of fine tuning, definitely biggest issue so far
Kickdown cable was not hooked up (did not think about it really) so that made the drive a little boring
Alternator is iffy to say the least...volt gauge keeps fluctuating (could be the belt)
Power steering works but belt needs a tensioner to keep the pump working
Power steering hoses needs to be altered for my preference
-Pressure hose touches the radiator top hose
-Return hose is a very random looking blue hose that it super soft

But hey, she drives!! was driving through traffic on the main road as normal with everyone looking to see what was causing the noise lol

Started her up yesterday for the new year and drove around the block..love the suspension setup and the shifter!

Need to fix the exhaust before it rips out and need to sort out the carb flat spot...definitely improved thanks to some fine tuning by myself...learning carb tuning the hard way lol

Ok so finally another update! Guess nobody wants to hear about this project again?? lol

Had to change floats and other small stuff in the carb because they got damaged (new carb was installed...so I'm confused) so now the engine idles fine and carb does not flood anymore so big improvement.

Next step is to fine tune the idle adjustments then carry for another drive to see if flat spot is still there. If it is, I can adjust the fuel pump cam on the carb until it is hopefully gone.

Noticed that the battery is not being charged so I'm guessing something is wrong with the alternator (foreign used) so I will test it before I get another one.

Progress is slow but sure! (hardly have time as of recently)

Check fuel pump pressure at 6.5 to 7 psi when car is running race the carh a few times and observe if fuel drop.
What cab u running?

As for alternator, run car and use a voltmeter and make sure u getting around 13.3v on battery. If you are then disconnect battery while car idling, if it's cuts out then u got charging problems.
If it's run off alternator then you may have a grounding short somewhere

Fuel pressure is good, it's a holley 850cfm dominator.

Checked the alternator voltage and it's under 13v so I will need to check grounding points and alternator wiring.

850 is to much carb unless if you drop the jets all the way down. Its gonna bog/flat spot (too much gas) with that carb.
Under acceleration its gonna get too much gas.
750 is better suited for a stock to mild small block with high compression and up to around a 0.525 lift cam (mild camm) .

When I bought the engine it came with an 850cfm carb and worked good but carb itself was leaking and started bogging a bit.

Engine is not stock and has been built for marine application (modified - Great Race former engine) so it has high compression pistons, heads, race cams (solid lifters), high rise manifold etc. With those parts I believe the 850 should be good once tuned right. Bought a holley jet kit so I will experiment accordingly.

With those sats then the 850 is just about right, if you still getting bogs then try dropping down jets on the secondary. Its a bit of trying different jets till you nailed it.
May sure and read the plugs after jet changes, plugs tell alot of air to fuel ratio.
Look for the grey-tan colour.
Do make sure you have the correct heat range plugs, most likely from the sats you gave you looking at mid to cold plugs a 6 or 7 plugs. Remember racing boat engines run on race gas so they gonna use a slightly colder plug for a hot engine.

Agreed. Will check out the alternator/ charging issue first so I can drive it around while adjusting jets to get it right. It will rev good standstill but bog when driving so I need to drive to adjust it right.

Will check the plugs as well.

That bog could be from a pump shot of 2 much gas when u hit the x..this is adjustable..

Exactly my thoughts nigie. Already bought the Holley carb cam kit and everything, just time to adjust and change accordingly.

Another update,

Car idles fine, perfect vacuum readings on all 4 corners. Revs clean with the primary throat. If you step on the accelerator aggressively it will bog a little then rev. If you rev gradually, revs clean and sounds monstrous!

It looks like I have to adjust the accelerator pump cam (already have them). Also need to adjust the timing a little as the initial cranking rpm is kind of slow.

Alternator still is not charging, wiring seems fine but the voltage readings in and out of the alternator does not make sense. Will get an experienced electrician to check it for me lol

Once I get that to charge, we can go for a proper test drive!!

Update 1/6/15

Alternator has been repaired, faulty regulator.
Pulley on alternator has been changed for one with a smoother groove at the base (the pulley was assumed to be the cause of damaging the belt)
Wiring for radiator fans underway. Using a 4-pin plug so it can be easily removed to do engine work.

Alternator will be reinstalled tomorrow or Wednesday so we can fine tune the carb over the weekend if all goes as planned.
