The *Official* NASCAR Thread

Postby SRASC » August 4th, 2013, 11:44 am

Know it's way early but as of this week the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season looks as follows

1st 16 (up from 13) on FOX & FOX Sports 1
Last 20 on NBC & NBC Sports Network (from TNT's 6 & ESPN's 17)

Nationwide Series
1st 14 on FOX & FOX Sports 1
Last 19 on NBC & NBC Sports Network
(All from ESPN)

Camping World Truck Series
All on FOX Sports 1
(All from SPEED (though technically it's the same))

------

Rewinding to today, Happy Birthday to 4x Jeff Gordon. Of course I'll be hoping he brings home the win today.

NASCAR superstar Tony Stewart suffered broken bones in his right leg during a sprint car crash on Monday night. The injuries will sideline him for at least this weekend's Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen International.

STEWART TO MISS WATKINS GLEN DUE TO LEG SURGERY; VETERAN PAPIS TO DRIVE NO. 14 CHEVROLET THIS WEEKEND
August 6, 2013 at 4:15pm
KANNAPOLIS, N.C., (Aug. 6, 2013) – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Tony Stewart underwent surgery on his right leg early Tuesday morning, Aug. 6 after suffering a broken tibia and fibula in a sprint car crash Monday night, Aug. 5 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Stewart did not sustain any other injuries.

The surgery served as a preliminary procedure to stabilize and clean the Grade 2 injury. A second surgery will be necessary. In the meantime, Stewart will remain hospitalized for observation.

Stewart was leading the 30-lap American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) feature when a lapped car spun in front of him. Stewart hit the lapped car and flipped.

Stewart’s injury will prevent him from competing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event Aug. 9-11 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. Veteran racer Max Papis will serve as the interim driver for Stewart’s No. 14 Chevrolet at Watkins Glen. Papis tested the No. 14 Chevrolet on July 30 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga.

Papis has made 35 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts, with a career-best finish of eighth in 2009 at Watkins Glen. He has competed in Formula One, Indy car, sports cars and other NASCAR divisions, including the Nationwide Series, Camping World Truck Series and Canadian Tire Series. He is a three-time CART race winner and a seven-time winner in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, which includes a Daytona Prototype victory at Watkins Glen in the 2004 Sahlen’s Sports Car Grand Prix. Papis won the 2004 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series championship with co-driver Scott Pruett and is a two-time winner of the prestigious Rolex 24 Hours At Daytona (2000 and 2002). Papis, 43, is from Como, Italy, and is a political science graduate of Milan University. He resides in Mooresville, N.C., with his wife, Tatiana, and sons, Marco and Matteo.

Anyone knows the status of SPEED/FOX Sports 1 for here? From what I've read the channel will still be known as SPEED but it wouldn't have any of the live coverage like the previous version. A search of the cable guides only shows mostly the SPEED Original programming & occasional sports car racing though that could be explained here (I hope)

Q: My cable/satellite on-screen guide says something different than you?

On-screen guides are done by a independent third party (neither Speed nor the cable companies). There are often mistakes, especially in a situation such as this.

As far as I know now this doesn't stand to be pretty good for (what was known as) SPEED's NASCAR programming, RaceDay, Victory Lane, Race Hub. Like today's schedule doesn't mention anything about the NCWTS coverage/race.

Could only hope this is the case

Despite the U.S. version of the SPEED channel having been available in Canada, the Caribbean, and Puerto Rico, Fox has decided not to convert SPEED to FS1 in these countries. Viewers in these territories will henceforth receive a channel named "SPEED International", which will air a lineup of past SPEED reality shows, and coverage of NASCAR and other motorsports events simulcast with FS1 or FS2.

Seems like everyone is confused with what fox sports 1/speed will show, will just have to check it later to see.If we dont get anymore nascar races/programmes on it in this region i guess the 'stream cup' will now be a permanent thing for now.

Well it looks like Flow at least has since switched from SPEED International to Fox Sports 1. Blink on the other hand has been black since the change.

As far as NASCAR shows go, RaceDay, Victory Lane, Race Hub looks like times got axed all round.
RaceDay: 3 hours to 1 hour
Victory Lane: 1 hour to 1/2 hour (already started at the beginning of the year likely towards the changeover)
Race Hub: 1 hour to 1/2 hour

Miss a race & you're likely screwed as far as post race news/repeats on tv anyway. I'll be very surprised if they do the usual SPEED repeat of the race on Wednesday.

Tony Stewart's 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season is over. Austin Dillon & Mark Martin will fill in for the #14 Chevy SS for the rest of the year.

For real, though except for nascar i dont really care for what fox sports shows or the reruns of speed.Wish we got velocity channel from discovery though, lots of good car/gadget related shows there plus some of the series from speed are there also.

I'm still hoping for Carl to go for the win this championship, but he's going to have to up his average finishes a LOT more if he wants that.

Yup .. gonna do that from this weekend !!!

Carl needs to step up if he has to win the Championship but I'm a Jimmie Johnson fan .. so he is right where he has to be but Clint Boywer closed the gap last event due to his DNF .. so he has to focus and increase the lead points .. He may miss a race or two cause his wife is prego, so we will see how that go !!!
