We started with a decent 1969 TR6 and after much measuring we decided to utilize the RB25DET powerplant from Nissan. These motors were original equipment in Nissan Skyline GTR's and are well noted for their ability to make major horsepower while also delivering rock solid reliability. They are also 2.5 liter inline sixes, which is the same configuration as the stock Triumph powerplant. We thought we were pretty smart deciding to swap the same layout motor as the original but it proved to present an enormous amount of packaging challenges, especially considering that we could not add hood scoops or air ducts or flares or anything like that. We had to use an aftermarket Greddy intake manifold and Infiniti Q45 throttle body. All the turbo piping was custom built as well, and the intercooler and radiator are also custom built units. The steering column and firewall were modified to clear the turbo and custom made downpipe but the column retains a totally stock appearance in the cockpit. The lower pulley on the motor is also a one off piece, and the rack was moved slightly as well. Of course, there are many other modifications to make all this work correctly.

Engine Size: 3,000 Model: DB 2/4
Transmission: Manual Type: Sports/Convertible
Fuel: Petrol Doors: 2
Drive Side: Right-hand drive Colour: Gold
Previous Owners: 2

Offered for sale is this 1956 Aston Martin DB 2/4 Mark II drophead coupe, 3 litre, 106,460 miles, right hand drive. Only 16 of this model were made, 10 being right hand drive. Here is my father's description of the vehicle in his own words:

'My father bought this car in 1960 on the back of a very successful crop of white clover grown for seed. He died in 1968 and I have owned the car ever since. So it has been in my family for 52 years.

I used it extensively in the late 60s and the 1970s. But I moved to the Isle of Man in 1978 and thereafter commuted to the UK, so have since then used the car much less.

Professor Stephen Hawking, a Fellow of my Cambridge College, spent one summer in the village where I lived. I used regularly to drive him in to work at the University at more than 100 mph with the hood down and his wheelchair on the back seat. There was only a seat belt for the driver….'

The car has recently had a total engine rebuild and the steering and brakes completely overhauled. I am told that the vehicle is mechanically sound but would need to attention to its bodywork and interior to bring it up to concourse quality (see pictures). The vehicle is currently with a specialist Aston Martin restorer. I will be happy to pass on their details to all serious bidders who have detailed questions.

Note that my father has transferred the numberplate shown SYL 421 to another vehicle and this car is currently registered in the Isle of Man as DMN 421. I understand he is unlikely to transfer it back unless not to do so would have a significant adverse impact on the price.

I believe the car was purchased new from Brooklands of Bond Street and so has had two owners. In case it is of interest, I have been told that the car was originally silver-grey, it has a Tickford body, the Chassis Number is AM 300 1252 and the Engine Number is VB6J/710.
