I personally prefer Yamaha cruisers. Captures the essence of a cruiser more, because its a simpler, more practical design. And easier to maintain.

almost forgot......almost 2 weeks since it was launched......the new 2015 R1.
in a nut shell.....completely new, 200hp at the wheel, lighter by about 10lbs, unified braking with ABS, quickshifter, traction control, slide control, launch control, wheelie control and an integrated 6 axis gyroscope, full colour display, led head and running lights and titanium con rods. its a strage looking bike, but i like it.

I was given Bankers Insurance and Citibank as recommendations already. Will keep New India in mind also. Going insurance shopping tomorrow.

I'm not with any groups or riding clubs at the moment. I took my very 1st crusier / manual bike test ride this evening! Was kinda scary to be honest.. now that I think of it, that Yamaha 1200 would have been too much of a handful to learn on! Lol

I made 3 laps around the block and the weight of the bike is quite evident. It's a bit of a challenge to maneuver at stand still and low speeds. I did stall it once forgetting to press in the clutch and I need to work on my throttle control.. I'm not smooth at all. Furthest I reached was 2nd gear and probably about 30km/h.. lol

I really liked the torque from that V twin. Climbed a small hill in 2nd gear at a low(ish) rpm with ease. I don't have any experience with other bikes to compare it against, but so far I am really happy about my purchase and not disappointed in any way.

Oh, the rear brakes are squeaking quite a bit when I apply them. I am not sure what is the cause but will need to look into that.. hopefully it isn't the brake shoes fully worn out.

One other mention, this bike is water cooled and that was one of the reasons I preferred this over the Yamaha Vstar 650 cruisers, which are air cooled. I know Ruff isn't a big fan of water cooled bikes though.. lol

and the only way to do that, is with seat time on it......

as a guide, all the fluids in the bike should be changed....oil, coolant, brake fluid. check/replace the spark plugs, clean the bike properly, go over the frame to look for any possible defects/missing bolts hanging wires etc., check tire pressure before every ride, inspect brake pad wear every few rides.....
always use bike specific oils and if you have a wet clutch, make sure the oil is for that type of engine, otherwise you can ruin your clutch plates. belray bike oils are common locally and i've never had problems with it on any of my bikes. check their website for what you may need.

Changing out the coolant is very critical on these Hondas. You must flush the system with distilled water before adding Powersport/ Motorcycle coolant. Do not use Automotive coolant. Water pump and its seals suffer because of it. The reason you want to flush thoroughly with distilled water is to remove any remnant of Automotive product from system. A mixture of Automotive and Powersport/ Motorcycle coolant is most times corrosive.
Despite the Hype, you may want to avoid Full Synthetic Oils. One reason being is most aftermarket clutch manufacturers (EBC etc.) strongly advise against Full Synthetic oil when using there Street/ Real World plates. So, if you are not sure of your clutches, I'll recommend a synthetic blend.

Re: Motorcycle Riders

Well.. it seems as though I figured out why the previous owners hardly rode the bike I bought. It has electrical issues..

I went through the service manual and discovered the regulator / rectifier is bad. Did some online research and discovered this is a popular failure point on a lot of bikes. Further inspection revealed a badly corroded electrical connector. The connector could be responsible for the RR failing.

I did some online research and discovered people generally upgrade to MOSFET type regulators. They are more efficient and produce a lot less heat. Less heat makes them last a lot longer. Also, some MOSFET designs significantly reduce the load kn the stator, greatly increasing its life also. I just ordered a new RR, will post up more details later and info on the install for anyone interested.

The MOSFET RRs can work on most bikes...

Most RRs available today are MOSFET. The faulty RR on your bike is more than likely MOSFET. You can reference SH***-** part # printed on it.

From my research, the stock regulators on the older VT Hondas are not mosfets.. i'll get the part number to verify when I get home
