RIP to the fallen.

Just checking in from New York. Always wanted a bike when i was in trini but never had the cash to spare. Got my first bike and started riding last year. I did the MSF course up here that gives you a waiver to just get your license. It's pretty much a training and safety course do it also gets you 10% of insurance. So it's better than just going to the DMV and doing the test. I'm riding a Kawasaki ninja 500r, enough power for me for now.
A couple weeks back i went for a ride and long story short two bikes hit head on, think one crossed the double yellow line. Luckily they weren't going to fast and only one guy had an injury to his leg from sliding into a boulder.

Be careful out there and Ride safe fellas.
And it's true, it's not for everyone

Hey, I'm looking around for my 1st bike.. Not 100% decided on making the purchase right now BUT if I happen to spot a nice deal, I might take the leap.

I don't want a small starter bike, I'd prefer to start learning on a nice cruiser.. I'm not into sport bikes either. If you happened to know of a cruiser (around 600cc minimum) for sale or know where I can go looking for one, please let me know.

My budget is severely limited though, trying to work with $25K right now. If that isn't enough, I'll just put off the purchase until I can raise the extra.

Are there any limits on registering an old bike?

No.

I as far as I know, there is no age limit on bikes. Ruff is very knowledgeable, so I guess I'm just confirming.

no age limits, no import permit required.
title and invoice in your name, proof of motor vehicle tax, and import duties/vat and you should be able to register it without worry. motor vehicle tax is $2 per cc if i remember correctly.
for 25 there are a few learner friendly bikes out there.....
you can also go the offroad route which builds control skills that you won't learn on the road....i did it that way, and i'm glad i did....

if you know how to ride already, its not a bad choice, but if you have never ridden more than a few km before, that could be a bit of a handful with the weight and manoeuvrability.
if you are just looking to cruise around, look for a naked bike like a suzuki sv650 or yamaha fz6 etc. those have upright seating for more comfort and are suitable for twisty roads and highway......a cruiser gets a bit shitty in traffic especially in built up areas and if air cooled, and in the curvy roads the extra weight is going to be noticeable.

Yunno, I really wasn't aware about the upright seating position on those bikes you mentioned.. I wanted a bike that is comfortable to ride, hence why I was looking at the cruisers. I rode a GSXR600 once for a short distance and hated the riding position on that.. Thanks for the heads up.

I have a gixxer 750. You do get accustomed to the position after a while, but even I want to sell and go big trail . I'm tired of group rides and it's places where a trail would dominate. For the last month I went coryal, aripo, tabaquite, tamana and siparia and every time except maybe the I wished I was on a trail.

Same story with my coworker who owned the 600 GSXR I rode.. He had sold the Zuki to look for a supermoto. He told me those bikes dominate in the slower corners / rougher terrains and he has a hard time keeping up with his friends who own supermotos. I know him to be a really good rider also.

I personally just love the look of a big cruiser! I know I will be sacrificing agility if I go that route, but those types of bikes are more my taste.

the FZ6, sv650, ducati monster all fall under the category of "standard sport motorcycle".
anybody who is interested in riding, i always recommend supermoto. the bikes are light, fast in the corners, stop on a dime, agile, and can handle bad roads, and have a high upright riding position.....but you need to be at least 5 foot 8, and be willing to sit on a seat that will feel like brick after an hour, they have small gas tanks and have little wind protection.....but its the most fun you can have on the street by far.

there is an older yamaha vmax that is for sale on trinicars......a yellow.....its going for very cheap, and i know the mechanic who sorted it out.......nice bike....lots of power and definitely an iconic bike....i'd take a look at it...

I know the bike but found the mileage was high.. i'll take a 2nd look now that you mention it.

I sat on a supermoto once.. not me and that seat! Lol, i prefer the lazy boy feel..
