Wow, amazing ppl would even think of paying $200K and $300K for something that depreciates the moment you drive it off the lot. I prefer to invest money like that in something more valuable, higher education, property, retirement fund or treat me and my gf and son to great vacations. When I look at it, my vehicle is 12yrs old, insurance is <$700, no loan payments and car runs amazing....it's well maintained. With just the 3 of us to move around it's quite adequate, reliable as hell and even real pace when I feel the need for a little speed.

Maybe if Trinis start realising the need to invest in more important things than a new vehicle dealers wouldn't be bussing price on us.

Good points ek4ever but you have your car already. What do you tell someone new to the vehicle thing? Buy foreign used? Buy a cheap car they may not be satisfied with? If you had to buy a car today what would you do? Also clearly there are many trinis who are able to invest the way you speak of and still buy a new vehicle. Just saying.

If you're NOW in the market for a vehicle I say go showroom, simply because it would last much longer than anything else. Not sure about RORO though. I agree with ek4ever though, a vehicle at this point in my life is now a need, not a want. I'm just looking to upgrade or try something new, I get bored easily. I don't NEED to get a RAV4 but I saw one and fell in love with it. I do agree that once you need your money for other things, a vehicle should be the last thing on your mind.

it have people out there who buying new vehicles and can't afford the following:

-movie date with spouse/gf
-eat out
-go tobago
-spend 3k on groceries
-have cable/internet/post-paid cellular plans
-buy new tyres for said vehicles
-no fixed deposits invested
-no retirement plan
-no medical or life insurance
-mortgage for house (worse yet the downpayment for said house)
-masters degree
-new appliances/furniture/power tools
-can't even afford kids...

The reality is, buying a new vehicle is bling today. It's a sign of job stability and success. You look good at the school re union but when you in the teller line @ the bank....you have 5k per month employees laughing at your stupid lifestyle...I suppose this includes the crowd of people who REQUIRES a 5% increase in salary so they could make johnnie walker richer and flood the market with more bb's.

My wife has the better car. I will stick to my 5yr old 1NZ-FE Corolla and put $120. in super every 8 days with 600kms per tank and $1600. for a set of brand new tyres once every 2yrs, loan free.

I havent seen the RAV4 boot to compare it with the Tiguan but to me paying +$300,000 for a Toyota mid size SUV puts me in euro territory. I guess whatcar.com is biased to euros but so am I. A euro just always has those little features and accessories that a techie like me wants, plus Toyotas are the most bland of JDMs.

The RAV4s boot:
Cargo capacity, all seats in place: 36.4 cu.ft.
Maximum cargo capacity: 73.0 cu.ft.

The Tiguan's boot:
Cargo capacity, all seats in place: 23.8 cu.ft.
Maximum cargo capacity: 56.1 cu.ft.

I love VW but their suv never got my attention, I used to like it once upon a time when I was in the market for my first showroom vehicle and made a love connection with the grand vitara

The price of the Cerato is actually nice, which is rare when it comes to sedans in Trinidad now.
What branch are you at? How is KIA's after sales service though? As far as servicing.

My gf is probably going to sell her ASX to her cousin to get a sedan (I don't know why, I think its a backward step IMO). She was looking at the new Corollas but the Cerato is 30 k less and was one of the few cars she saw on the road and liked, so that also looks like an option. She won't be ready to buy until early 2012 though.

Thanks for the updated prices!

Absolutely NOTHING! Which is why I am puzzled as to why she would want to get rid of it, her cousin and her brother are both currently trying to get it off of her hands. The fact that they're running her down for it should be an indication that she should keep it. It's not even up for it's 3rd servicing yet, but I can't talk her out of it, I never know what's best for her and she is always right.

scotty, there is no 2.0T (as in turbo) Koup in existence in PRODUCTION trim. Only the concept car. Export markets get the 130 hp 1.6L or the 160hp 2.0L

The 2.0L Koups are available for around 230K I believe. All (1.6 and 2.0) come with 6 speed automatics w/ paddleshift.

The Hyundai group opted to keep the 2.0T in the Hyundai Genesis instead. Also, they won't want the koup to cannabalize sales on the new Hyundai Veloster Turbo.

aidan wrote:150k for a rio?

Yep. A bit overpriced, but then again, I'd rather pay that for a rio, than 180K for a corolla with 1 airbag and no antilock brakes

The new rio is awesome IMHO. And the interior > corolla interior ANY day:

Optima is not being sold locally with teh 2.0T. Neither is the Sonata.

I am unsure as to whether it's available on order. As stated above, the Optima starts off with the 160+ hp engine @ >280K.

i just came from by the showroom and they told me those prices.the only good thing is if you are going with the ansa merchant bank financing otherwise that is a big jump!the leather asx is really sweet on the inside especially the retractable screen on the roof but the trunk is a bit small although you get a full spare which is in a mold which can be removed to give more room

Dad and I was driving around and decided to stop by Kia. The sportage is sold out until next year  she said that the current rio is 130k an the new ones will be 150k, it will be a hatchback with a similar body to the sportage, she even showed me a pic from her phone, it's like a baby sportage

I'll can't get over the fact that it's a rio though. The cerato is beautiful, you can fit 10 dead bodies comfortably in the trunk.

I've realized that brand/model prices 'seem' to increase upon receipt of each new shipment. No feature or spec improvements, just more $$$$ to the consumer. They just blame the value of the Japanese yen or the South Korean won.

The MVT is the second killer - Ex. The 'mid-spec' CRV 2.0L is $375K and the 'fully loaded' CRV 2.4L is $406K!! A difference of $31K!! Why??!!

Subcompact SUVs have crossed the $300K line, and quite a few subcompact cars have hopped over the $200K line with relate ease!

This isn't KFC folks, we've comfortably accepted 'stealth' increases in the 2/3-pc combos for years. We're talking $300,000.00 dollars for vehicles that still aren't fully loaded - all this crap about basic, mid-spec and hi-spec/fully loaded? Even the fully loaded missing features. Imagine handing over a cheque for $349K and you've just bought yourself a 'basic' model? WTH?!

I think I'm going to agree with acesinghit, and pull my 'FOR SALE' sign on my SGV and wait and see what 2012 brings! Cuz I don't like what I'm seeing now. :?

Couldn't have said this by better..

Imagine how pissed I was when dad bought a 2010 camry from Toyota for 400,000 claiming to be a full loaded model when it's in fact a mid spec vehicle everywhere else.

Naturally my dad didn't bother and was pleased..after all, ;it's a Toyota'

Bro...I have agreed to all your comment is the past and well to this one I FULLY ENDORSE ALSO....

prices are tooo high......I was gonna place my 2002 model car up for sale but I am thinking twice.....since it works well and i just drive about 10km per day with it so why the heck should I spend so much money on a new car that will do the same job for me.....

once my a/c pumping....music rocking and i getting a smooth comfortable ride for my 10km journey each day...then I kool with that....

btw this 2002 model car is only doing 70 000 KM due to my short trips...lol...so its still is relatively new to me.....interior exterior and engine......

removes 4 sale sign.......
