The 1.6 N.A civic is much larger in-terms of interior space and trunk space vs the corolla. Also way more tech in the civic vs corolla, both should be just as reliable. The service interval on a civic is 10,000 KM what is the corolla? 5000 KM? 1.6 civic has more HP as well vs corolla.

If they both 235K as 007 has on the front page I say go with the Civic.

I've noticed that new cars sales have slowed down drastically. I wonder how the dealers are affected.

I suspect PDR is close. A neighbour has an 88xx Navara and I saw a 89xx X-Trail.

New Vehicle Prices In Trinidad & Tobago

Postby agent007 » May 6th, 2017, 11:24 pm

I saw what maybe the very first write off new model Civic yesterday evening. It was a 1.6 though (no fogs) and it got a heavy lash to the front left. Similar to a small overlap crash test and cabin integrity was maintained. Despite the dated single intake VVT SOHC engine (ivtec is not vtec in this app) in terms of technology, design and space the Civic wins for me over the Corolla.

I'm guessing there's some major significance behind the skip, skipping Q makes sense..why R as well?? A172 can probably shed some light..

On the civic front. Has first service so far 6 months only managed to make around 4800 KM. Service was fast and they went through each item on the service list. Cost was just under $1500, internationally Honda recommends 0W-20 but manual says you can use 0W-30 and 5W-30. Ansa put in 5W-30. Charged me almost $200 for a "octane booster/fuel treatment" I was like WTF so that will be off the bill next service.

Two problems with the car net says VSA modulator for clicking noises you hear from the dash and VTC actuator for grinding noise on ignition on warm start. They did not have scan tool for the car and only just got one in the country. Scanned the car and they say no error codes. But they said they want the car overnight and they need more info so they can get in contact with Honda helpline. So far they not denying the problem and they not acting like its my problem or blaming me in any way. They are genuinely trying to address the issue. Which to me is really good customer service. Will keep you all updated as this unfold.

Surprised you even bothered paying for octane booster.

Octane booster could mean some not so great news in the future. mmt coated spark plugs do not perform optimally (I am guessing "mmt" as that is what most octane boosters use).

Mmt also means shorter life for cat converters and O2 sensors. Would also suggest that the "safe to use" super isn't up to scratch

One treatment not really gonna improve the super gasoline. Manual says 91 RON safe to use.
Just an attempt to squeeze more out of the customer. They seem to be accustomed to dealing with people who don't really question stuff with them. They even got a little nervous when I started asking why they used 5w-30 and not 0w-20 oil.

Will have to keep a closer eye on them, already told them and will keeping having to remind them no extra stuff and any part that needs changing I want old parts for inspection.

Yeah should have refused to pay for but i guess I was more caught up with trying to get them to sort out the clicking noise, had to have a meeting the service manager at south branch, guy was very helpful.

Heads up

I dunno about 91 RON... Went to one of the timing session when the Honda guy was here and NONE of his 91 tunes were agreeing with our gas, it was definitely less than 90... He had to remap to get it in the green

Would not be accurate to test RON based on the tune of the vehicle as it is very indirect test and has many other factors to take into account.

Spoken to some dealerships techs and NP tech and from what I have heard the super is good at least 92 RON but the premium is highly variable. Heard testing shows numbers as high as 98 RON to 92 RON on the premium gas. This is second hand info tho. If anyone who has any real numbers professionally or from personal experience please share.

So u can buy premium and get 92.
So men who fill premium could be getting rob easily.

New Vehicle Prices In Trinidad & Tobago

Postby agent007 » May 8th, 2017, 12:30 pm

I remember asking a bmw sales rep once about the super vs premium issue in a 320i and he told me if you fill with the super your hp will drop to 170 and the premium would be around 185?? He further lamented, if you not driving aggressively or going up hills, it's ok to use the super cause most people will not feel a 15hp difference. Maybe the expert can say if there is any truth to it.

My uncle used super on his f30 3 series and use to service at the company and the didn't pick up on anything.. But he did get less mileage using super, he wouldn't know about loss of power cuz mamoo does barely go above 120 ever

What does the owner's manual for the f30 say?

Thing is using the wrong RON fuel doesn't mean your car will raise a flag one time. You could even get knock and not realize.

Won't those newer BMWs have knock sensors that would show the engine knocking when the vehicle is scanned? Or is there just no way to tell until you crack a piston or something?
