150 for a japanese sub compact sounds really good.

Thats korean price range for Japanese build quality and reliability.

We get the Mazda 2 hatch and sedan here?

Yep both hatch and sedan. For some reason the hatch are always more expensive locally like 2-5k more

The m2 seems like a good buy.....

I recently made a request for the Mazda 3 (spec sheet) and was told they don't have one yet. And when asked when they expecting to get one, they mentioned as they get they will let me know. Idk what to say yes...

Hope you find what you looking for in the m2 it's a nice drive..

So I got the quotes. M2 hatch is 156. Features include auto sensitive wipers and lights, push button start, 7 inch touch display, cruise control etc.

Was quoted m2 sedan core at 151 and basic at 142. No features were listed on the quotes for these two so I'm not sure what less equipment u get as opposed to the hatch.

Also got one for the m3 sedan at 197. No specification sheets were provided for any of the models. Guess I will have to go in to inquire further.

no issues so far and neither car went for their first service.
btw i purchased in south and got lenny sumadh plates for free. POS gives you normal pressed plates and for some reason fit a square plate in the rear rather than a long one.
Got an estimate for first service around $1000.

My issue is always southern sales. their sales people suck and the appointment for service has to be requested like 1000km before you due because there is a ridiculous month or more wait on appointments

oh btw they installed reverse sensors for free on moms 2 as a goodwill gesture as it was the last one available when we bought it but they also put a small scratch on the bumper when installing i pointed it out and they repainted it for free and you cant tell it was repainted which was good, the car is the brownish colour called titanium flash mica

Well it has a few feature differences (not sure if it matters to you). The M3 (loaded) comes with reverse camera, m2 doesn't in either model. The 2(fully) has climate control (fancy AC knobs) while 3 (fully and basic) has normal manual AC knobs. M2 has 15 inch alloy while M3 has 16 inch alloy. Again these is just fickle things i have noticed as i have been at the dealership twice to view the vehicles myself.

The biggest thing in my eyes the engine ofc, with M2 have the newer 1.5 skyactiv 6 spd while m3 have 1.6 4spd.

I have been considering the M2 myself better price along with that newer 1.5 skyactiv. decisions decisions...cinco having such good things to say about the M2 might be changing my mind...

Agree with Cinco on southern sales they are not good to deal with at all!! my experience lack of information inconsistent information and making appointments is so stressful.

I am really a Honda person myself and would have loved to buy a new civic instead. However, that is not an option given its price. The m2 is really interesting as I think u are getting a good amt of tech and features for an affordable price.

The Honda city is so much under spec compared to the m2 and is more expensive. It's seems to be selling a lot better than the Mazda given the amount seen on the roads. Not sure if the main selling point is the cng.

So the prices of pickups are a lot more competitive than car price and suvs.. and the diesel fuel is also slightly cheaper....

When alluh calculating that diesel cheaper and it will cost you less etc, You need to take into consideration maintenance costs as well. Do a 1 year estimation of the cost to put fuel and do maintenance for both a gas and diesel vehicles, you might be surprised.

Maintenance is about equal in the first few years.

It needs one extra litre of oil every oil change and one/two additional fuel filter changes over its gasoline counterpart.
Which equates to
$33 more every 5000kms for the oil (same oil can be used in both)
And
$150 - 300 more every 80000kms (honestly i haven't priced a gasoline filter)

diesel doesn't have spark plugs that require replacing.

It is only after 140000kms that my diesel maintenance takes a massive spike in price... Cause my particular version diesel has a timing belt, vs a chain in its gasoline counterpart. Also replacement parts for damaged fuel system components in the diesel is pretty costly.

But the short term maintenance cost, it is pretty close.

Did the math
The savings based on the current fuel pricing more than makes up for the difference in maintenance costs... Right up until you damage any diesel fuel system components.

The argument in diesel vs gasoline is usually in the price to purchase

Does damage to diesel fuel systems happen often? Seeing as you mentioned that

Owned a navara and a Jetta at the same time ... Navara was more expensive to service and shorter intervals as well. That's with the dealer of course.

Tires were very expensive vs car tires as well.

@kronik
It shouldn't but it requires you to be more diligent about maintenance practices... Water wreaks havoc in today's diesel fuel systems; some vehicles allow you to drain off the water allowing you to run your filter for a lot longer while others necessitate a filter change when the water trap that is built into it is full. So if the water trap light comes on, if you continue to drive without addressing the problem, you risk serious damage to the fuel system.
You don't hear about a water trap in a gas engine vehicle..

Besides that I personally monitor the fuel i get from different stations and mainly fuel up at just 3... Did something similar with gasoline but I don't have to be as selective

@drchaos
I am comparing like to like; cause that eliminates a lot of variables. Our market has a couple of vehicles that are/were available with gas or diesel engine options
Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai Santa Fe
Kia sportage
Toyota hilux

In those comparisons the only thing different is the fuel system and its associated components
Items like tyres will cost the same

I should mention that I am servicing myself and the dealer is the one making the money off your head telling you that it is so much more costly to maintain... It really isn't as much as they are making it out to be and charging you for.
Changing oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter brakes, etc in a diesel isn't any harder than in a gas; only difference is in the fuel filter.

I still tell persons that if they want a easier ownership experience get a gasoline vehicle.

Picked up the civic yesterday, will post some pics this weekend.

Initial impressions is good so far. Car seems well put together except for a slight vibration noise from the driver side door plastics when accelerating hard from crawling speed lasts about a second.

Engine has a throaty growl to it on acceleration which is nice, have not pushed it past 3500 rpm, taking it easy for the first 1000 KM. Dealer filled with super at gas station and not hearing any pinging or knock. I will probably do next fill up with premium to test if there is any difference. If not back to super.
If I was not told there was a CVT in the car I would not have noticed. Under mild acceleration the car holds the rpm, press down a little harder and the "upshifts" are fast and crisp. No flappy paddles so no fun with changing gears one thing i did have fun in the jetta with.

Infotainment is nice and apple carplay works, sad there is no waze or google maps on apple carplay though. Once Android auto releases the app to our market I will test it out.

Leather is perforated and looks upscale but I am already seeing some stretching. Hopefully doesn't start sagging in a few months to years.

I thought i liked the look of the back, but up close it looks weird ... step back and it looks a lot better.

Once I have a some more time with it will post a full review.

Civic vs Mazda3 vs Elantra.

I'm considering one of these...The Civic is nice but there is a wait. The Elantra is available and the mazda3 well is SSSL
