175hp and 265Nm torque mated to a 7-speed twin clutch? Not bad at all Hyundai. Thing is, the Germans couldn't get this double clutch to work in mainstream vehicles (think VW Jetta and Passat etc) you think Hyundai will get it right especially for our climate? Time will tell.

Anyhow got some prices on some cheaters I mean vdubs and a subie:

2017 Passat 1.8T 180hp fully loaded - $390k
2016 Tiguan 2.0T 4MOTION R-Line - $425k
2016 Forester XT 2.0T AWD - $419k

Boost is good till they get a load of the servicing costs.
Have my N/A 2.0L Gas Tucson for just under 10,000kms now.
5,000km service was $1,300 and the 10,000kms service cost $1,700.
I'm genuinely afraid as to what the next service gonna cost.

Whaaa??? It more expensive to service a Hyundai than a VW???
Is Madness in dis place!

Boost doesn't govern service costs for these vehicles. Literally they changing oil and oil filter the same as on your vehicle. They fcuk you in labour anyway. Boost is the least of your problems in these vehicles.

Nothing is inherently wrong with dual clutches. VW just sheited things up with the control units which they seem to have a history of doing regardless of the transmission's mechanical design.

Yeah so far BMW, Merc, Ford (just software issues) seem to be doing ok with their DCT.

Is New Tech ... US seems to be getting some issues with Hyundai DCT but rest of the world seems to have nil complaints so far.

John Cadogan has reported that Hyundai's DCT works well so far without any problems. He also reported that hyundai tries to respond to issues quickly rather than bury it under a rug like ze germans.

anyone knows what's Massy's policy regarding external servicing and their warranty? What is required to keep your warranty intact?

I think it may depend on the manufacturer more than on Massy. I don't know what is Massy's policy or if they have one.

DIY is a lot cheaper but you have to be confident enough to tell the dealer to stuff it and walk away.
I don't understand how an oil change can be used as an excuse to not cover let's say a seatbelt problem or a stereo problem... We letting dealers get away with too much stupidness in this country.
Anyhow my total oil change cost comes up to about $300 and 1hr of my time.

Unless the diesel engine Tucson have a bigger sump... There is no reason for an oil change (read service) to cost more than its gasoline counterpart.

Qashqai had a fan issue under warranty and only did the free one ever. Vehicle was doing 25k km and even though the hair on my back started rising they didn't hesitate to install a new one even though vehicle was never serviced there and even called to follow up on my visit. They asked about how come I don't service and I said vehicle is hardly driven as over 2.5 yrs it only did 25k km.

Seems service costs are skyrocketing ... Had a friend tell me it cost around $900 on her prev gen Tucson to do filter and oil ...

Dizzy reporting $1300 now ... Jeez that is a big jump.

I'm thinking if one should forgo the warranty and opt to service externally, the money that you'd save would probably do well in a savings to cover expenses should something require changing or repairing that would otherwise be covered under the warranty (which is 3, 5 years at most)..in addition, even if you have warranty, you still have labour costs which are obviously rather exorbitant.

2 year old jetta had mechatronic failure. After good will replacement ($1000) labour vw calls a week later to say we owe $7k because vw Germany only covering a portion of the replacement cost. This after we were allowed to take the car home. They got nothing more from me though and apologised after lawyer talk. Also only one year warranty on the new mechatronic. A $20k part.
This weekend car is idling rough. Good it works for you but not worth the stress for me.

I never believed them when they said they could potentially call me back in case Germany didn't cover all the costs of my mechatronic unit replacement. Surprised they called you.
