I am actually seeing more of them than the new Tucson on the roads, subjective observation but wow.
Even have two new ones on my street.

Must admit the New Sportage is growing on me, heard it's feature rich. Tucson still wins on design tho

My 2wd np300 is a failure. After all the flood I pass through last week I wish I had 4wd. Watching those prices posted by rastaman above is just too much for me.

What you guys think about the 2016 l200 Sportero 2.5 double cab 4wd at 255k and the 2016 upgraded dmax hi-power double cab 4wd at 252k? Both are fully loaded. Or would you pass on both and spend extra and buy the 279k np300?

Not sure if is just me alone but the thought of a 300k + pickup is crazy eg.: 312k for loaded np300 and 345k for loaded hilux and 395k for a loaded ranger.

The Sportero is really nice. Dual zone auto ac with touch screen multimedia deck, paddle shifters and smart key access. Technically it's a Nissan Mitsubishi Sportero now lol but yes I'm thinking of selling the np300. Break even on the loan and walk away.

problem with the sportero is that this new one is forking ugly  Spoke with our salesman buddy and he admitted they weren't selling as well. I found it a bit of a step back that they brought in these new ones without the sunroof or drop down rear glass like the one it replaced, and i'm sorry but paddle shifters on a pickup are gimmicky as hell.
What was the problem with the navara in the flood that made you wish you had 4x4 though?

LOL you guys harsh but I am not surprised. Something has to be special with this new Sportero for Fiat to skip any Dodge/Jeep platform offering to offer a pickup for Europe in the form of the Fiat Fullback which is just a rebadged Sportero. Grasping at straws here I know......hmmmm what about the proven workhorse 4D56 2.5 which is actually compliant with our diesel and the 2nd gen RISE body structure improves crash safety even further. The interior is spacious and the back seat has a higher seating position. The superselect 4wd system gives you 4wd and locking diff on your demand with Dakar rally heritage built into the suspension. That's all I can think of but do not forget it is $255k. Yes we know it's still a commercial grade truck to the bones but all other pickups are. Why charge $312k to $395k for a loaded double cab automatic 4wd pickup when I reckon this Sportero will take you the same places the others can go from as low as $24k less all the way to $140k less? $24k is a lot of cash for me worse yet for $140k!

Now why I need 4wd if most times I'll be visiting in-laws (oh joy), pricesmart, massy stores and peakes gas station? Well, on a couple unpaved work sites that I have to go to eg. the day with all that rain last week, my van sunk in the loose gravel/sand just like a whole day of fun at Tyrico beach. So imagine, I could not get out of it as the back wheels dug deeper into the mud. Same thing happened at Tyrico and a guy with a 1.6TS Impreza could literally drive in circles without breaking a sweat. Another instance was a back road I took in my several work related commutes and to avoid a huge crater in the middle of the dirt road (depression filled with water) I simply veered more towards the grass on the left but I couldn't avoid the hole totally so one wheel got in and the other was partially on the grass and that took some additional maneuvering to get past as there was massive right tyre slippage. This can be attributed to poor driver skill and crappy tyres but with 4wd, these little annoyances would not become an issue anymore. Another thing to note, the Sportero comes automatic 4wd only so even if I wanted to go 2wd automatic, that model does not exist. 2wd will be paired with the manual transmission in the commercial grade.

Sunroof, leather seats, power back glass and power seat in a pickup is just absurd. You rather have high quality fabric or fake synthetic type 'leather' seats? A sunroof? Who uses this feature locally? If it's not blazing hot sun, it raining! Power back-glass? For the few Sporteros that came with such a feature previously, I never observed any with the glass down. For the power seat lovers, really? You cannot gripe about smart key and push start along with paddle shifters in a van and not talk about the unnecessary feature of a power seat. You set the seating position once and there you go, no need for power controls unless wifey wanna try and drive it which is another story by itself.

Consider if you stuck in traffic around the QPS and it's total gridlock and an emergency arises, wouldn't it be nice to know your 4wd pickup can climb the curb and enter the savannah and you can skip where ever you like? What about the center median on the highways? If there is an emergency you never know what a higher ground clearance coupled with 4wd could be useful for.

Go test drive the Chevy Colorado... more features for the same money and more HP and TQ.. You'll get a fully loaded Colorado 4x4 with leather etc for same price as a mid range hilux, ranger or sportero.. Something to think about

I think you should buy something with resale since you change cars often ... Colorado would incur major losses if you try to sell to early

L200 sounds good... The price appears to have come down a bit from what it was initially. If you need a point A to point B, get the cheapest van with the features you need. The savings will cover your fuel for all the years you decide to keep it.

Just for the record, Mercedes choose the np300 as the platform to be their pickup... By your metric you have the better van...

guess there's only so much google can help you with
I'd double check on the availability of the super select 4wd system though, back when I looked at the new sporteros they came with the normal quick select system (basic 2H, 4H, 4L functions with no diff lock)

With diesel going up every budget/review and projected to raise again end of this year. You guys still think buying them Vans is a good idea? Unless you have real work to do OFC.

The main thing they had going for them was cheap fuel ... otherwise they more expensive to maintain, lower legal highway speeds and poorer ride quality.

Glad to see those pics, for the price point I'd go with the Mitsu, the Ranger is very nice as well but that's at the top of the price range

For me, the diesel wouldn't be the only selling point..the quality of our roads seems to be inversely proportional to the amount of money spent to 'maintain' them..these utes are coming with a lot more creature comforts that those of yesteryear, so they're just as suited to family as they are to farming. But I know with Euros (which are similarly priced, especially if you're looking at the FL Hilux or Ranger), they stand up well to the road conditions but they use premium..so for discussion sake..what's a better buy??

These are some pics I wanted to share. They are random and does not represent an order of preference. The Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max and Volkswgaen Amarok will be posted soon to aid in clean/constructive discussion.

Yep... Still worth it
To each his/her own
It's a bit of a trade-off

Servicing costs are similar.
Can't argue with the ride quality but what I can say is that it's pretty decent at taking an unseen pothole in stride and continuing on its way
You got me beat on the speed limit. [DISAPPOINTED FACE]

What you do gain
Ground clearance, better visibility, ability to go off the paved route and the ability to carry items a car/suv can not.
