New car sales have already dropped dramatically ... Series have been changing rapidly over the last year or two, i think its around 2-3 months a new series. PDL has slowed and its still going strong coming up to 4+ months now.

Car dealers scrambling to keep up profit margins up and they will start getting desperate, that is what SS is doing with that optima.

Been doing some research on these hybrids ... with no taxes the landed cost is ridiculously low
You can get a Honda fit hybrid landed for just over 100K, Vezel hybrid for just over 150K and a prius for around 170K. That is if you bring in the vehicle yourself and cut out the middle man (FU dealer) who will add anywhere from 10 to 40K on that price.
Prius can be serviced at Toyota firm as they are supposed to service any Toyota vehicle. I never thought I would see the day where I am talking about Toyota's in a positive light, have to thank colm for that.

A used (roro) Prius for 170k doesn't sound attractive to me, but maybe that's just me.

Will be or is? Hybrids had no taxes for a while and Prius was over 200k at Toyota.

With these low prices I expect the government to start clamping down/taxing heavier on bringing in your own hybrids soon, as the dealers will recommend to colm that this is a significant leak on forex. :P

Question is:
Even if the bank is financing... would you buy a brand new car with no warranty?

Brining in a hybrid yourself is def a plus..I won't mind doing that for my next car if I'm still In the country..that being said the prices for 2.0 and above are ridiculously high now.
Dealers are jacking up prices to keep a a profit..dont doubt it.
The intro prices from SS was for both the sportage and optima

Well the 170k I quoted was for the regular Prius which sells for over 300k at Toyota and the Prius c is just over 200k.

Wait wait wat.... Toyota firm supposed to service ANY Toyota vehicle??? That applies to RORO like noah, voxy, probox, elgrand, alphard etc?

Care to elaborate and explain this interesting fact (assuming it is indeed fact)

Interestingly, i was in chevu scoping out the captiva... Wasnt all dat impressed and found that the third row was cramped for an adult. Salesman said that the third row can comfortable fit an adult... Yeah right... If the adult was the size of Arnold from different strokes...

Anyway, he said captiva going up to 495k bc of the increased taxes.

Also, salesman indicated that they may soon discontinue the captiva due to the increased taxes and looking to bring in a 1.8t equinox as a replacement suv and to get away from the increased taxes. Will wait to see that.

Since the dealership is owned by Toyota international that is supposed to be the case. What they will not do is honor warranty unless the car is sold by them. Once you own a regular Toyota its probably better to take the car to an outside mechanic because their service rates and cost for parts would be much higher. Only instance this would make sense is for a hybrid in my view.

Even then I don't agree.
Maintenance on the hybrid system itself is literally non existent. Maintenance of the Prius is no different to a regular car.

Urm ..... no
These cars are very reliable but they can still have problems. When I checked online i found a few things that can go on with the electrified drive-train that your average mechanic would have had no previous experience with. I would feel safer with the dealership ... If you think that your guy can handle it by all means you can let him have a go.
Some examples
Coolant system for the electrified drive-train can have issues, pumps burning out and leaks.
Generator can fail, car has no alternator and relies solely on the generator for power
Batteries can fail, rare but still possible

Ok just to clarify:
I'm talking about regular service/maintenance. Not major issues.

I 100% agree with you on what you've quoted.

Yeah you right and regular maintenance might even be less! people say they does have to change brake pads after 150K miles and ting. Some people complain that the rotors does rust/corrode from lack of use.

Hybrid vehicles hardly use the brake pads.
They use the regen from the electric motor to slow the car.

Range on CNG is about 250 to 300 kms on a full tank and of course, depending on driving habits. So of was to convert to CNG, I'd need to fill up 4-5 times every two week ie at least twice a week.

This luxury tax is in effect already? Would it be a good idea to quickly buy one now and sell it after?

Buy and sell... Not in these times. Ppl have no money now or watching how they spending and even those who may have some disposable income will likely not invest in a luxury vehicle. Plus you might end up stuck with a vehicle on your hands or end up having to sell it for a loss. Now if you talking about land, well thats a different story.
