True...for years people paying more for toyotas that have the same features as an empty box when for less you can get a good vehicle that better looking and 5 times the features.

more things go wrong? Consumer reports survey for 2015 have both kia and hyundai In top 10 reliability and they cost a fraction of Toyota and offer way more features. Don't have that normal trini reliability assumption for Toyota being the best of the best

Different strokes for different folks

The reliability isn't assumed btw.... Have a 19 year old example in the yard.... Still running the original ignition coil and ignitor and is one coil for all the cylinders. Same old automatic and same engine.

It works.... I can't argue with that

Yeah but in other countries Toyotas aren't that expensive as they are here. Prices justified elsewhere. Not here.

And a 19yo Toyota different from Toyota of today eh. Speaking from experience with multiple new (5yr old or so) models and old 20-30yr old models.

Spoke to the customs liaison officer in work who's responsible for clearing all our equipment and goods.

He said that the exemption is on MVT, VAT and duties, but, although Colm stated the exemptions were with immediate effect, he's not sure whether Customs and Excise "got the memo" i.e. not sure how long they will take to actually implement the change - could be immediately, could be a month, who knows.

He did tell me that he's brining in a 2016 hybrid Vezel for a relative and with all the exemptions (including exemptions from duties which he's hoping would take effect before the vehicle is cleared) the OTR cost of the vehicle could be like 150k.

In my opinion, I think that the one thing Toyota (and Nissan too) has is legacy. Its been known to be a very reliable car for tens of years. Yes the features are arguably not the best when compared to others like Kia and Hyundai and yes the prices are higher, but Kia and Hyundai don't have the legacy like Toyota. Who remembers about 10-15 years ago when Kia and Hyundai first came on the local scene? Those set of vehicles were horse manure. And at that time Toyota still had their reliable vehicles on the road.

Now the current Kia and Hyundai are earning a good reputation, so I think in about 10 years from now, if they keep up this perceived reputation, then they will begin to have that legacy and then begin to be a force to reckon with Toyota.

And its all about what the buyer wants. Some (like me) would prefer to forego the bells and whistles and get that car that has proven and known reliability. Others may want the bells and whistles and will go with the car that is beginning to make a mark. At the end of the day, we can disagree from now until eternity about Toyota vs Kia vs Hyundai vs Mazda vs Nissan blah blah blah. But we choose what fits our requirements.

Hydrogen fuel cells are dumb ... better to go straight to battery powered electric cars.
Highly inefficient to produce hydrogen from electricity ... better to just charge a battery.
Also you would need to implement a huge nation wide infrastructure for hydrogen. Toyota will fail as battery electric cars are easier to implement.
Lastly these hydrogen fuel cells degrade faster than current lithium ion battery tech, so less reliable as well.

Better to go with CNG/methane fuel cells.

I mentioned the ignition coil cause the pencil coils fitted to the KIAs and Hyundais usually give up just after 100000kms. If you not planning on running to that mileage this does not apply to you.

That is a huge price jump.... Anyone know the new cost of the 2wd diesel Santa Fe.

Doesn't add up .... What's the actual displacement on a sonata 19xx?
This is just a straight increase in the vehicle by the supplier

Just typing what was said to me.
However I must say... the optima is an amazing vehicle.

But by far best value for money is the new fully loaded Elantra.

The engine size is less than 1999cc. It's 1998cc to be exact. The price shouldn't have risen that much. It definitely shouldn't have been risen for "50% increase in tax" Steups.
300k was the introductory price so it wasn't gonna stay at that price for long.. But a 70k price increase is ridiculous.
Southern Sales just thiefing ppl head. They'll say how " engine is 2.0 and it's a luxury car and some other BS"
Wonder if other dealers gonna do the same crap for other 2.0 mid size sedans.. Like the Altima and Accord, etc.
I rel fed up how dealerships robbing us.

The optima is good value for money for sure.. but I wouldn't go so much to say it's a superb car. It's a bit boring to drive and underpowered. And to me everything feels like an imitation of something luxury.. Like its trying too hard.. Not sure how else to explain it. Lots of features though.
The only other thing it has going for it IMO is its looks really..
