I'll ask if they updated any software from that August 2015 service. The installer removed the immobilizer from the key fob and stuck it into the slot where the key fob enters. I thought this was the problem and I had him uninstall the remote start when the car started giving problems. But a few days later it started giving me the same problems again (no A/C, no indicator lights, and no infotainment system).

BTW, warranty was expired when I got the remote start installed as Best Auto only offered 2 years warranty.

So you tampered with the car's security feature and electronics.
Hmmmm.
Is BA aware of this? If they are, it would be easier for them to isolate the issue.

Thanks. I didn't know this aspect of the goodwill.

The no A/C & infotainment sounds like a blown fuse and based on the electrical draw of these systems, it's most likely a big fuse (30A and up)

With the no indicator issue, check to see if the hazard lights are disconnected.

I'm no auto guru but I've had those exact problems in my rover and that was the remedy.

The amount of blow heads those Mazda pickups have suffered is no laughing matter. At one point everytime I went by by mechanic he literally had one fixing, one scrapping and one waiting all for the same blown head problem.

Thanks, I'll ask them to check the fuse. I did have a dashcam hardwired to the fusebox on the drivers side. They knew about this. They also know about the viper remote start as well. I'll still mention to them to check the fuse and if they did any software updates on my last service. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Yeah but for them being the car dealership with "trained professional mechanics" it can't be something so simple because if it's a viper remote start, (which is the most popular in the world!), it should have been diagnosed already.

One can only hope it's an easy fix as a fuse!

These cars are so complicated now that old school mechanics are a thing of the past. Now we have technicians who scan the cars and try to interpret that data. The scan tools will sometimes sometimes point you to the general area and can be vague sometimes. Electrical and software problems are the hardest.

Scotty kilmer on youtube was explaining how crazy these euro's can be to diagnose and fix when using scan tools. Then again he is a general mechanic and doesn't know individual brands well.

I would not buy after reading of overheating problems.

Seems they still sell reject cars in trini.
We know ford have shut down problems which was use due to bad diesel, but it was not Ford at fault this time.

Reject cars? No. Poor designs/quality controls that are sold world wide including so called first world countries? Yes.

This pickup summary should be interesting:

Hilux - raj, expensive, over rated, underpowered, spacious, rugged, good resale value, ok dealer support
np300 - ghetto, another version of a wetman, diff problems, small inside, okay in resale, the wrx sti of pickups, too low, ok dealer support, coil spring rear suspension is a failure
Sportero - ugly design, the rally bred pickup, not so hot resale, excellent dealer support
Bt-50/ranger - transmission and engine issues, spacious, 3.2 is awesome, manly, dealer support sucks, not so hot resale value, heavy t only
Dmax - poor design, poor engineering, poor dealer support, poor resale value, one of the cheaper pickups. You pay for what you get.
Colorado - very powerful, features like wow, ok dealer support, poor resale
Amarok - the luxury pickup, poor dealer support, over-priced, poor expected resale value, poor expected quality, a dirty lying cheating manufacturer
Actyon sports - Google this one because most don't know it exist.
Wingle - last in every possible category. don't bother selling it. If it still works and you looking to move on, just donate it as a charitable act
Scorpio pikup - made in India by mahindra. This is mentioned because people will ask what is a Scorpio pikup. Strong....at least 30+ years behind in technology and design, poor resale no sheit, ok dealer, not sure if dealer still imports them. Total failure.

OFC its Ford's fault ... they supposed to know the quality diesel not sell their pick ups if the rangers can't handle it.

Why is the Multi-link suspension in the navara a failure?

Spoke to ford sales rep who last said they have since then modified the sensor for bad trini diesel .

Sales reps are the last people you should be taking technical advice from. Ford didn't do testing of our diesel before launching the vehicle? Our diesel isn't some special brew and it certainly isn't a secret the spec diesel we make.

So with all the issues on these new vehicles and the vans each having their own bit of cons, what really ate the better new vehicles on the market in terms of dealer service, after sales support, features, reliability etc? Seems like none but surely there must be a few.

On a diff note, what are some views or experiences on the chevy Captiva?

The end of the day you have to know what you like and live with your choice.. All vehicles have issues and will always have. I owned Nissan, Mazda and Toyota vehicles.. They all work well.. Ppl will tell you all sorts of stuff about a particular brand but the end of the day all made by men and will always have issues.. We just need to stop studying to much talk and just buy what we like..You can buy a brand for resale value but not giving you what you want.. You can buy a brand that don't have resale value and giving you the comfort you need.

My parents bought a 2014 model

My thoughts:
-Big, takes some getting used to
-Very comfortable to drive
-Deisel engine is a 2.2T but does not disappoint or lack in anyway.
-7 seats with the 2 rear being collapsible for cargo space is handy
-Leather feels nice.
-dual zone a/c is good for those who always "too hot or too cold"
-airbags like a package from amazon..lol
-AWD is very stable on the highway and the vehicle feels very grounded.
-radio interface is annoying and not very user friendly.
-lighted scuff plates and floor lighting are welcoming at night.
-the headlights turn on automatically when if park in the dark and start the vehicle...very annoying.
-electronic park brake is annoying too as it takes a while to lock/unlock

Things i wish it had:
-Bluetooth connectivity for deck
-factory HID in the projector light
-reverse camera
-powered seats throughout instead of driver seat only
-push button start instead of the keyless start with a turn ignition.

Not sure if any of these updates were made to the current model. But overall its a nice vehicle and i can recommend checking it out....see if it fits the bill.

the 2015 and 2016 Captiva's have a restyled exhaust pipe finishers, rear LED tail-lights, a double-DIN touch screen deck with Bluetooth and reverse camera, smart key with push button start and newer styled 18" rims. These are not bad vehicles at all, I just wish we got the V6 option with a sunroof as can be seen in other markets. As for resale value and long-term reliability, your guess is as good as mine. I know of one personally that was involved in a major accident and the driver literally walked out of it without injury! Based on the GM Theta platform which shares platform engineering with the Suzuki Grand Vitara. For those heading to the US/Canada, check out the Chevy Equinox which IMO is much nicer.

My parents and relatives have always been Honda fans, stylish cars, very reliable, dealer support is good (only heard about support for minor problems) and not as bland as bland as Toyota's offerings. Always saw myself buying a civic as my first car. Didn't work out as Ansa views Honda as a "luxury" brand and is ridiculously priced, also the manufacturer seems to have lost their mojo over the last few years and has stalled on innovation.

But if you want reliability and something that's classier than an toyota I recommend it, also if you can stomach the "luxury" price tag.

Reason i asked is that later in the year i may be in the market for a 7 seater and after calling round, the captiva is actually the best priced. Wifey has a swift (not sport) which i use and she uses my 2014 rav 4. I was pleased with the sales at Lifestyle motors and granted the car is still under warranty, the service isint all that bad. Plus i know suzuki parts are cheap and easily accessible plus those cars are reliable.

LSM may be able to offer a trade in on the swift but im not too sure about the captiva. Hell im not too sure bout any of the seven seater SUVs out there as they are all so ridiculously priced. Suzuki also have the ertiga and apv but those arent crash safety rated and im all for safety (so thats good news for the captiva based your personal knowledge of one being in an accident).

But given that its been out there for about 6 years, anyone else know of reliability issues with the captiva? Resale value is crap on all new vehicles i think but who knows, with the change in vehicle age for foreign used imports, maybe the local used market will pick up again as it did many years ago.

How do BMW and Jaguar/Land Rover stack up against the "luxury" Honda in their offerings?

Or does Ansa consider all its brands to be luxury?

Bleh ... Was never fond of hondas for those same reasons... Pitched as a luxury brand and was always expensive.

I came to realize if I do purchase a 7 seater there will not be any trunk space for beach limes or outings with family. Thank God is only 3 kids I'm having so my best option is to purchase a pickup and invest in some narrow car seats.

Nice vehicle though..
