Well I have a 2.5 @ 75 KW. I find it underpowered when I have a full load in the tray and have to go up a hill. I then have to put on the low range 4 x 4. I will not buy a 2.5 again with that power and torque. So in the real world power and torque does in fact matter and it is just not a spec on a sheet

You mentioned you had a problem with yours... What was it

The problem was that 75 KW is insufficient for a van that size

The new 2.4 has torque comparable with the old 3.0 and a 50% increase in Power

New Vehicle Prices In Trinidad & Tobago

Postby agent007 » November 6th, 2017, 5:09 pm

Wow guys! I didn’t know such a small piece of my contribution could be exploded like that lol!

We’ve accepted that our van was a unique lemon in the one fault that was identified. I just don’t want to give people the wrong impression about new ones or affect potential sales that’s all. Its now a non issue with us since we parted ways with the van so dont be alarmed about it.

If you still not satisfied with that response then pm me. Let’s arrange to meet so I can see your new Hilux 3.0 automatic with the stock 17” / 18” rims and no load in the tray. All I need is a flat surface and literally two minutes of your time and we will take it from there.

My point is that the new engines are an improvement and I pity those who did not wait for them

Agreed.
The technology is being used to increase efficiency. So a new smaller engine should be able to put out more than a older bigger version.
But how would the previous hilux owners have known to wait 3 years + for a newer and "questionably performing" engine?

I'm pretty sure most persons who buying these hilux on 5-7 year loans really looking for reliablilty than power and torque figures.

And at least with the previous gen hilux 3 engine options were offered (3.0, 2.5, 2.7gas) so if someone needed power, the smartest option would have been to buy a 3.0.

IIRC, the 2.5 2KD was a non intercooled engine. The 3.0 was actually a slightly updated version to the regular 1KD’s we knew from the “Vigo” version. I just didn’t like the TMIC as that bonnet opening allowed too much dust and water to enter the engine bay from above despite having the surrounding rubber seal. I like my engine bays clean! To me the FMIC is a better design and more efficient in capturing cooler air. The 6AT would also contribute to better fuel economy vs the 5AT unit and at least the 2.8 now has an ECO and Sport mode. The 3.0 did not have such an option.

I won’t go as far as saying it was a mistake for owners to buy the new van with the old engine, it’s all a matter of choice. Many swear by the Toyota name and won’t get into the specifics of why the 3.0 and not the 2.8 etc. for some, Toyota could bring whatever engine or equipment listing (or the lack thereof) and still buy them because of the value of a good name. What I didn’t agree with though are TTTL’s exorbitant pricing structure.

New Vehicle Prices In Trinidad & Tobago

Postby agent007 » November 6th, 2017, 5:35 pm

Now seeing A2BE’s comment. What can I say buddy, you keep some and you give some. In my defense though, I’ve been quite open wrt our vehicle purchase decisions over the years and our many experiences that followed. In fact, I’m not finished! I’ve got a few more experiences to share with you all and you shall see future posts on the same. This thread morphed into more than just giving prices. It turned out to be a tool that many have used to make their next purchasing decision a wise one. I will continue to be as open as I can.

Can only speak for myself but I did the research .read that the engines were being phased out .looked at all the features of the new engine and decided no way I was going to go with the 11 year old engine tech. But I guess to each his own

New Vehicle Prices In Trinidad & Tobago

Postby scotty_buttons » November 8th, 2017, 10:21 pm

Sooo..
Just digressing a bit from this Hilux talk.

Got my 2016 330e M sport almost three weeks ago and wanted to give my experience so far.

In a nutshell, loving every bit of it.

Fuel economy.
My commute to work is about 10km. 8km is Highway traffic. Rest is main road.
I charge it every night at the 220v socket. Uses about 7kWh. Little more than 3hours to charge when set to maximum power. Which works out to be less than $2 per charge. I usually make a drive to deep south once a every week.
So far I’ve been getting around 700-800km per $200-$220 of premium fuel.
It can be a lot more per tank if I don’t go south (or any long drives.)
Electric range ranges from around 25-40km. Depends on your driving style, for exampe hypermiling habits would facilitate recharging of vehicle while driving and thereby extend electric range. I was able to drive from Point Fortin to San Fernando on electric alone.
Transition from electric to petrol and vice versa is seamless and hardly noticeable most times.
When vehicle is put into save battery mode, battery charges pretty quickly. Around 1% per minute.
I usually leave it in comfort mode with auto E drive.

Power.
I think these 3 series LCI uses the new B48 engines. Combined power is around the same as a 330i but more torque than same. How it feels? Very impressive. Especially the amount of low end torque and responsiveness that’s available from almost idle. It just pulls all the way from 1500 to around 5500rpm at least.
Sometimes it feels as though it has more torque than my stock STI and can give any stock Evo or Sti a good run. But that’s just from Using my butt dyno.
I always loved these ZF 8 speed transmissions.
Handling is typical 3 series. Steering a bit numb. M sport performance brakes require a significant amount of force to stop. More than I expected at least. Could be the regenerative braking ?

Annoyances.
Start stop can’t be turned off.
However, if vehicle is put into sport plus, then it’s unlikely that engine would cut off.
LED headlights not that great of a deal. Prefer HID.
Using gas alone and not charging I was able to get about 350-400km per $200-$220 of premium fuel. Which isn’t that bad.

I managed to get the bmw connected drive app working. Car has a built in SIM apparently. So all this can be done from any location once there’s a good GSM signal.
So I can lock and unlock car. Flash headlights etc. Pre condition temperature in car for a maximum of 30mins.
Can Send directions to the car before you drive, so car would determine the best way to use electric and petrol motors when embarking on your journey.
Car can be located via GPS so no need to install those GPS trackers really.
Attached a pic of the app below.
(Vehicle had less than half tank remaining at that time)

So far I think this is probably the perfect blend of economy and power for a daily that I’ve come across so far.

Beautiful car Scott! You got through in the Knick of time since the 330e would now be subjected to the new taxes. It is estimated the price could be pushed up to around half mil.
A2BE, ANSA does not sell any hybrids AFAIK so maybe Scott got it from Achievors or Maska?

I personally checked out all of them in great detail. The “ Alternative Dealers”as I would like to call them imported the 330e both slightly used and brand new which ranged from $340k to $450k depending on package offered and dealer. At the time, it made complete sense to buy this over a local new 318i, 320i and 328i but sadly those new taxes will change things. So it’s back down to a 318i now for those who were willing to go the 330e route previously. Just FYI, these prices also applied to the C350e. For those still desirous of purchasing a premium Hybrid (BMW, Benz) act quickly because there are a few units remaining. If you want help in finding one, just pm me.

Look at this Hybrid Xtrail, beautiful isn’t it? Act quickly because the alternative dealer stocks are being eroded rapidly. Right now they range from $240 - $325k brand new depending on whether they are basic or fully loaded and 2017 style or 2018 style etc.

This is so disturbing. One can only imagine the cost of a RAV4 post 1/1/2018. Luxury vehicle territory?

ACT DA FOOL, my friend, the base RAV4 has risen to about $337k and the last known price for the 2.0 2wd fully loaded was $375k which was increased by now. The 2.5 4wd which they no longer bring was $428k but that price under the new tax increase would have been past $500k. A hybrid Camry 2.5 was around $600k. So in 2018 brace for a Rav4 to be around $400k at least for the fully loaded 2.0 2wd.

I expect the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA and Audi Q3 to sell more from next year. ANSA probably counting their lucky stars about that CRV 1.5T and it would make sense for Massy to get the Xtrail 1.6T but getting that info from my sources in Massy Motors in Morvant is like asking the POTUS for nuclear launch codes.

New Vehicle Prices In Trinidad & Tobago

Postby agent007 » November 14th, 2017, 10:35 am

Hi guys, further to what we discussed above and for those not interested in the Hybrid version, I am pleased to announce the official arrival of the 2018 Xtrail fully loaded at Massy Motors. The price is $429k. I suggest that you act quickly before the prices increase further which it will. There has never been an Xtrail as fully loaded as what can be seen in the pics below. Notice the dual projectors in the headlamps, the rear LEDs in the taillights and the Qashqai-like 19” rims! ImageImage

Compare this one to the red one above and you decide if it’s worth it.

Oh and concerning the Mazda CX-9, I was told that it is not here. Perhaps the poster who provided the pics can give us more info etc?

Hey guys does anyone know the status of the Mitsubishi Lancer locally and it’s future in this market? I checked a few Mitsubishi websites and saw that the Lancer was excluded from the lineup. I’m just wondering if we will no longer get this once great car or sales will continue. Any ANSA insiders who can provide an update for us would be appreciated!

I believe that the problem was that this vehicle required premium fuel and that was a real downer for many.

Had a look last weekend at the CX-5, really nice at $313k. Only downside talking to my mechanic who works at SS is that the battery drains quickly due to all the electronics and I-start/stop. Replacement batteries are around $2300 available at Kamus. Yes, its not a standard battery, some kind of special battery for the I-start.
Vehicle felt solid and the interior styling was really nice.
Even had a look at the new A4, on special for $395k. Standard 2.0T Quattro, sports suspension and upgraded huge front brakes.
