Planning to sell soon? Why proud to have driven so little bit?

Does the true break in period of a vehicle still exist? A salesman at massy said modern vehicles are factory broken in before delivery to ensure optimum long term usage.

The owner's manual for your car has instructions on how to drive the car specifically during the break in period. Also your first service is done early with break in in mind. Sales reps should be ignored for technical advice.

We should keep an eye on Massy ... they no longer doing a free 1000 Km service they doing the first service at 5000 Km. Don't know if this is from manufacturer or just Massy trying to save money. Weird thing is they starting this all their brands all at the same time.

Break in is a very serious thing and should not be taken lightly.

well maybe I'm odd but I got mine at 294kms on the clock. I was told at the time the vehicle came from the South branch.

May I also add, there were 2 scratches on the vehicle on delivery day (left side wing mirror and rear bumper towards the right mud guard). When collecting a new vehicle, try and take the time to seriously inspect the car before signing acceptance of it. In all the glee I know you may not be picky but trust me, have someone else with you (friend, sibling etc) look at the car in great detail while you organize documents. The minute the vehicle drives out the showroom, 10-20k depreciates from it one time. The way those people drive those new cars straight out the port lots into the dealerships are questionable. To make matters worse, I expected the vehicle to be 100% clean inside especially the floor carpeting but unfortunately it wasn't in my case. I actually took the car to a reputable car wash guy I know and he did a full cleaning for me and interior vacuuming before I brought the vehicle home to show family. I am wiser now so this won't happen again with my next purchase.

What vehicle and how long ago, heard this is a new policy. Then again Honda have no break in service internationally. First service is at 10,000 Km.

Anyone every heard of Kendall semi-synthetic oil? It seems Massy trying to cheap out and use this oil for service. Took my dad's Subaru XV for service and this is what they put in and then proceeded to charge us $1300 ....

They used Castrol in the Xtrail.
I see Kendall is advertising like crazy but I really am not too familiar with it or its quality. $1300.00 is rough though, the price of keeping your warranty I guess.
You can carry your own filter and oil if you want but write your name on the old filter and check it after the service cuz those scamps in service brutal.

I got my navara from Massy Richmond St. Dec gone with 125km. As tuner acesinghit highlighted, inspect your vehicle carefully as a few days later i spotted two sinks in my bonnet close to where antenna located. As for 1st free service, had to come in @ 1000km. When inquired wat would be done... Was told they only check to make sure all bolts tightened and fluid levels top up. When asked why oil wouldn't he changed as is a new engine and shavings etc they response was that was changed prior to vehicle going for inspection. Had no way of disputing that claim to they took win with that 1

Would just like to say that some of yall are too passive. You don't have to just accept the dealer actions 100% of the time. Research a little, keep your invoices and don't be afraid to write the manufacturer directly on certain things.

Do find out if Kendall oil is an approved oil by Subaru. By all means do check to see what is the standard first service recommendation by the manufacturer. Be a bit skeptical, after all you did pay many many thousands for your vehicle and you should ensure that you get the correct service that you pay for from the dealer.

Anyone know of the lifespan of cvt transmissions such as those in the Xtrail? I've not had issues with it but I've never had a cvt.

we have 2 in our fleet. 1 we changed the cvt fluid and the other I don't think it was ever done. Just regular oil and filter changes. In fact I don't think we ever changed spark plugs and air filters. Anyway, the one we changed the cvt fluid in actually performs worse than the other. Strange but both are out of warranty and it doesn't look like the fleet manager cares much.

That would depend on how you drive as well as how frequent the oil is changed...

It's only had 2 oil changes, the 1000 and 5000, it only crossed 8000kms last week so it'll be under warranty for the 3 years, that means firm servicing so I'll have to check the service manual and see when it's supposed to have cvt fluid changed. I'm just curious cuz I know a few people who've had cvt issues in the past.

No, sorry. I think achievors still brings them (t31), but the 2.0L with lesser features.
