Nissan Presea R11 body restore / Project Build

Postby zcarz » December 2nd, 2012, 7:13 pm

Hey guys, recently bought this not-so-popular car as my first car. Did quite a bit of work on it so far to get it mechanically up to mark. Has an SR20DE in it that works just fine, enough power to make it fun to drive. Changed shocks, all fluids, leaking radiator, tightened hoses, master cylinder changed and filter and put on a 2.5 inch muffler to add an extra 20 hp (jk). Now its time to do the bodywork. It is not in that bad condition, but it has been in a small accident that damaged the rear bumper and light on the right side. It has never been repainted so the paint is quite faded and I will need to spray it over too. The rubbers surrounding the door frame are flaking off. I am gonna source the rear light from ebay from japan, since I'm almost sure I won't find it in Trinidad. If anyone knows where I can get the light in Trinidad, then that'd be great.

In my search to get it restored, I tried Ventura's (because I really want this car to look factory new when I'm finished). They pretty much said they do accident work alone and they won't do these old cars as it will slow up the garage. Any suggestions of where to try to get similar quality results.. Can't afford to spend more than 10-12K on it. Basically want to straigten out the dents and respray metallic black/silver or red and fix the door rubber.

UPDATE : I got the bodywork done in Arima and rims and tyres installed.. Total work cost about 10000.. Not too bad considering the amount of work done.. Have a great working and looking first car now and I intend to keep it that way... Future plans for a vvl engine to go in.. The DE working good for the while though

sell it and fix the S13 instead.

ok, seriously you can still get parts F/Used for this.
just need to spend more time in bamboo and any other shops that you may find that sells parts.

nice car, would tell you to do the body job yourself but it takes time and may just be easier to pay.
also with the kind of finish you want a noob wont get it on the first try, nice car though

that's not an s13 moti lol, it's a z31.. that has so much work to do though. well i will look hard for the body parts, glad to know there might be places that carry them. yea moti, i do like that it looks like a sylvia from the front and it's really fun to drive. Good features too, power mirrors, ABS with 4 wheel disc brakes, climate control, it's a nice old car. and thanks cinco, any contact number for richard? thanks

body parts for these are available. My ex's neighbour drives one and that car crash to my personal knowledge about three times. Each time she brings it back with what looks like brand new lights to boot! I'll try and make a run through and enquire where her straightener gets parts for you

It's gonna be in black ( pearl black no effects). Well there are a fair bit of dents on the car but the largest is the rear right Fender which will need a lot of work. I took it to a place in tunapuna just before Karamath street don't know if anyone knows of it and he quoted 8500.. Will check some more places but would prefer if the place is around that area

Well the guy from tunapuna .. his number is 495-2589, I don't know if he's any good or not but you could call him and see. I will try and negotiate with case to get the price down if possible though.. Will have to keep looking.

Oh and hey Shane, yea he still won't sell the z31,he's finally starting to get it working, but if he ever does decide to sell I'd let you know.

There is a painter on Bypass Rd in arima who has done work for me. He is very good. You can contact him and check out some of his work. Rishi 331-9724. Showroom finish and attention to detail.

^Thanks a lot. Anyone heard of John's garage in Arima btw? A family member recommended there just want a second opinion. It will go in to spray next week but before I do that I'd like to source the right side light. Do you know where I can get that? Would also like a small spoiler. Not anything ricey just a factory looking one

Looks excellent but the rims doesn't suit the clean lines of the car.

thanks for the comments guys, I've left Trinidad but still visit from time to time and the car is parked there now. Going to do some work on it in the summer, just want to change it to manual as soon as I'm back.. Shouldn't be too much work right? Where do you recommend I buy the transmission from and do the conversion? Also it has a foot brake not a hand brake which I'm assuming will have to be moved when the clutch is put in. Is this even possible?
