Well is not that people making too much money ... Trinidadians have life very easy. We does moan and groan for everything but almost all services in our lives are subsidised. Everything except premium gas and cars!

why sell 400 sedans a year in T&T to make 10million profit when you can make 11million profit from selling just 360 sedans. Shareholders wouldn't fuss about that.

acesinghit wrote:I recognize my comments above were uncalled for and I apologise for that. Basically what I am saying is despite the common platform the Focus is still a stronger/better built car than the Mazda. One way to prove this statement is to drive one or simply be driven in one. Thanks for keeping it mature.

Anyway, just to note I heard within some circles today that this mid-term 2013 budget presentation may have a couple unpopular decisions made in respect to vehicle purchasing/ownership. Speculation on adjustments for:

1) fuel
2) Duty
3) MVT
4) transfer tax

With excess liquidity in the economy, borrowing is becoming more competitive and thus new vehicle sales may keep at a steady pace. Blaming higher overheads especially in logistics mean car prices will continue to rise. 2014 may be the year we see a $300k+ Civic. No wonder why PCZ crack 8000+ already. People afraid of budget 2013.

Great thats all we need to help dealers "justify" an increase of $100,000 on cars like the last time. Increase on MVT, Duty and Fuel, well no more turbo petrols for me... turbo diesel forward. Didn't think that would ever come out of my mouth.

Any idea if the government will finally increase the quality of the diesel fuel sold, like the grade found in the USA and Europe?

Spoke to people who work at petrotrin

Apparently we do produce low sulphur diesel high quality diesel but its more profitable for them to sell it abroad rather than sell here. They supposed to have another plant coming on stream soon but who knows if they will set for export or for local consumption.

UK manufacturing isn't all its cracked up to be.

Rolls-Royce engines that were made in UK for the Airbus A380 were faulty ... Two engine failures in about 6 years of commercial operation. Almost brought down the whole plane one time.

Probably would be better if it was other way round, owned by UK made in India!

Apparently we do produce low sulphur diesel high quality diesel but its more profitable for them to sell it abroad rather than sell here. They supposed to have another plant coming on stream soon but who knows if they will set for export or for local consumption.

The low sulfur diesel would have to retail at a higher price to maintain the same rate of subsidy as it definitely costs more to produce. Govt would have to switch over to the low sulfur fuel at current subsidy .... which for example could increase price to about $3/ltr then begin to remove the subsidy in stages. Non-Subsidized Low sulfur diesel could be around $6-7 per litre. Low sulfur diesel in the US and Euro tend to be the same price as premium in fact in US it's actually more than premium gas .... would be good to know what the non-subsidized cost of our fuels would be on the market.

I'd pay more for gas if I could drive without having to worry about repairing my tyres.

Those craters on the highways are hard to avoid sometimes.

Send up the price of gas and drop at LEAST half the damn taxes off the vehicles ....

Then build a fricking train East to West and North to South and we good to go!

Why drop taxes?

I say leave the taxes for a few years and ease the number of cars on the road.

So just did my 20k service. Cost 2100 the previous services were between 700 and 900. Every 20k is about 2100 all others as 600-900

Still satisfied with service

I noticed the steering wheel started to feel rough. On inspection the top later of the leather steering wheel was rubbing off. I informed the service agent and lwdt my car to service saying for a new car that not acceptable. I got a call back later that day saying the wheel would be replaced under warranty no cost to me. However not in stock so they ordered it.

Good service so far
Will post pic later

Was just reading up on that sky-activ tech on the new mazdas.... Real interesting stuff

Direct inject, new dome shaped pistons and less friction in the engine. The new transmissions sound really amazing also. They have torque converters for use only when crawling or starting from stop. Beyond that they have a automated clutch for direct connection to the drive train. In addition to all that they have a mechatronics unit that does the gear shift for smart/blazing fast speeds ... Is like having a auto/manual/dual clutch transmission all in one with some trade offs but lots of advantages. Body and chassis supposed to be lighter and stiffer.

Don't think any other Japanese brand keeping up with mazda in the tech .... They almost starting to feel euro ...

nah man dog compared to what? I think it holds its own compared to the swift, fiesta, rio and accent. It aint plain jane like the city, fit, mazda 2 and yaris. Civic, S2000 and RX8 fans would love the digi speedo.
