Tire recommendations

Hey guys can you recommend a QUIET and COMFORTABLE 205/45/17 or 215/40 or 45/17
I'm fed-up with the substandard selections I keep coming across.

The car is a '08 Yaris and is used primarily as a commuter car to and from work. I've used lots of rubbish (Nexen, Nankang, Westlake and Dunlop Dz101's) in the past hence the look for a change. I'm looking for recommendations for tires that are available locally for the sizes posted.

now if you don't mind me asking.....your problem is what the ride? tyre noise?

thing is with the "bess brands" price plays a major factor.
if it's ride i suggest you change the rim size.

however i more believe in bridgestone, toyo or kuhmo.
as for prices for 17's i'm not too sure as my biggest rim is 15's

Thanks fellas, my primary gripe is the road noise. Ride comfort is my other concern, but I understand it's a compromise i have to live with the bigger rim size. The Nankang was ok-ish but still noisy as hell. Had them also on my previous ride (supercharged rolla) and traction was fair to fine but they didn't really stand up to abuse.

I had Nexen and I currently have DZ101 on one of my cars. The car does not have ABS, and the Dunlop locks up much easier than the Nexen did. Wet weather performance was no better with the DZ101. After a year and a half, the Dunlops have to be replaced because they have worn away. The Nexen lasted much longer. I would say that the DZ101 is more rubbish than Nexen. I am going with Kumho now when I change the tyres later this week.

If road noise is your priority, stay away from the Dunlop DZ101s - they get very loud once they reach about 75% wear, almost deafening. Their hydroplane resistance leaves a bit to be desired as well.

Have to agree with Ignis on the Sumitomo HTR ZIII. Very decent performance for the price, but being a high performance summer tyre, they will be noisier than a decent touring tyre. If you're looking for the best price for good grip the HTR ZIIIs & Hankook V12 Evo I'll recommend thus far from personal experience. But if you go this route, noise shouldn't be your main concern.

I paid $850 for the ZIIIs in 215/45/17 from the same place Ignis listed, but I'd still take the more expensive V12 Evos over them if price were no issue.

Can't comment on any touring tyres since I've never bought one because unlike you, grip, not noise, is my primary concern.

The supercharged 'rolla was an AE111 with a 4AGZE with some trd bits. Still miss her.
