Postby KurtCharlesJr » May 28th, 2012, 4:08 pm

Does anyone know how much to register a shipped vehicle for private use in T&T? or where can you get info online ...and is it cheaper to ship as knock down or a whole car....Thanks

@mudboy, I knew over 6 years cannot be resold by roll on roll off dealers, but I looking at private use.
@moti.. I am the owner, but unfortunately I used the returning resident 'free tax' card a couple years ago ;) not sure if I can pull that one again without getting caught, though it was some time ago
@sanctifier..I appreciate the link. I guess they got tight with the laws.( unless money pass somewhere)

So what I get from the article is you CAN'T crash your car , get another and do a vin swap, but what about lets say putting all the parts from a 300zx into a ole school cortina or escort or something. Is that illegal too? I wanted to just register as a returning resident as moti asked but I would have to pay the taxes etc this time and I wanted to get a rough idea how much that would cost me.

I met guys out here who told me they sold cars 'spoon' civics etc to fellas in Trini before, don't know how, but I would like to find out.

putting all the parts from a 300zx into a ole school cortina or escort or something. Is that illegal too?... Nope, not as far as I know. You can also disassemble your 300ZX and ship parts to T&T in a container... and use the 300ZX engine/gearbox etc. in your Cortina/Escort/whatever. Then you MUST register the "change of engine" with the Licensing Office AND advise your Insurance Company... if not your Cortina will also be illegal (invalid Insurance.)

You can't use the 300ZX shell... except to repair a legally registered, locally licensed 300ZX... but it MUST be the identical model... and you can't screw around with the original chassis number or firewall etc.

they sold cars 'spoon' civics etc to fellas in Trini... (unless money pass somewhere) Ahh, I think you just answered your own question.

...btw yesterday the POLICE brought in FOUR Licensing Officers for questioning about fraudulent activities!

Thanks alot Sanctifier. The license office fraud thing is something I could do without.

I guess my best bet is strip it and ship the parts like you suggested, this might be the cheaper option too.

I can get parts cheaper out here than what I would pay in Trinidad. I got a 300zx Z32 model for $550 US and rebuilt the engine :)

Another option would be just ship it whole and use it as a track car strictly for drifting

Well thanks again bro.. I can make a better decision now

^ ^ ^ No problem. Post some pix during and after the new project is on the road.

btw Customs will NOT let you import a "whole" outdated car. You MUST remove the engine and drivetrain first and ship seperately... and then ship the rolling chassis on a seperate Invoice. (Bits can be in the same container.)

You are very lucky. Since it's not available in the US, I had to pay BIG $$$$ for a foreign used "parts car" for my project...
