That Jetta is a good price versus the competition.

The Golf GTi seems a bit on the high side considering the last one with DSG was around $310k not so?

Correct me if i'm wrong.

Can you shed some light on the maintenance costs? Cuz I understand its expensive to service. e.g. $9000 to do a brakes service on the Toureg? Is that a fact or BS?

^^cud be true, although idk why people pay that kinda money to change brake pads. Even though most cars now come with a single piston sliding caliper, a design that is used from b13 to bmw's nothing special there.

FACT!

For the Touareg....Yes that's the cost of Brakes replacement & service due to Brembo Brakes they carry.

Jus know that if u're a touareg 'type' of customer, ur service may cost more....much more technical vehicle, hence the higher service cost

^^^^^^

As requested, this is the breakdown of the average service cost of a Volkswagen Jetta:

- 1000 Miles - Free!
- 5000 Miles - $1,100
- 10,000 Miles - $1,300
- 15,000 Miles - $1,100
- 20,000 Miles - $3,500 (If front Brakes to be changed +$850)
- 25,000 Miles - $1,100
- 30,000 Miles - $1,300
- 35,000 Miles - $1,100
- 40,000 Miles - $4,000-$5,000

Please note that at every 20,000 Miles Service includes - Replacement of Air, Fuel, Oil and Pollen Filters. Clean & service Throttle Body. Renew all Fluids eg Brakes, radiator etc. Check and Lubricate all contact points. Alignment of Tyres. Change any worn belts.

Also note that our service intervals are in Miles NOT Kilometers as in other our Japanese Brand Competitors.

Glad to be of assistance guys!!!

mammoo...I have a question/concern.....not sure if you can answer but why is the new jetta more expensive than the outgoing one, when from 3 independent online reviews I've seen, they indicated the revamp of this bigger model was strategically set to be cheaper than the outgoing model by as much as $6500 starting price?

To save on cost of it,they reverted back to the cheaper torsion beam rear suspension setup and some of the interior plastics are the cheap scratchy feel and type? Please take my questions seriously as I have this model on top of my list but I need some justification for the pricing as oppose to other alternative, say its cheaper newer cousin the Octavia to arrive sometime late this year into next year.

That equates to a 6,500 gain in profit for the local dealer dude.

Found the same from the reviews, the lower price is supposed to allow the Jetta to compete in the same range as Corolla and other compact cars. Maybe they're anticipating local compact car prices to rise to that level.

Service charges don't seem look that bad, are the prices VAT inclusive?

boy from introduction of the VW in the first place it should have been around 200kmax to compete with the corolla/mazda 3 et al...I suppose it's cuz its "euro" and has more features than the rest in the segment,N&M thinks this dictates higher price advantage over the rest of bland cars we have here....smh..sad really...have a friend who refuses to buy a Cayenna S turbo in trinidad and resorted to buying in UK,then shipping to Trinidad...saved alot of money this way...so I'm considering the same alternative :|

Re: NEW VEHICLE PRICES IN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

Postby NorStar2K » August 14th, 2011, 1:13 am

I drove the Jetta SportWagen on Saturday. I was told by the rep that the cabin, 1.4 TSI engine and features are the same as the yet-to-arrive 2012 Jetta sedan.

I have mixed emotions. A lot of it goes back to what nes123 and the online reviews said. The interior didn't impress me at all for an entry level luxury car - rather dull. The cabin was also small, narrow really. The driver's seat is narrow and the base seat is rather short. It doesn't support the back of the thighs. I guess coming from a SGV.........

Ironically, the 2012 Passat's cabin is the same size as the Jetta's. Weird huh? Usually when you go from sub-compact to mid-sized the cabin length (and width) increases - in the case of the Passat, just a bigger boot/engine compartment.

And of course I couldn't put her thorough her paces as the morning traffic on the LYR was ridiculous. I found there was a lag in response when I floored it. Ride quality was firm, road noise was very low. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try the Sport/Tiptronic modes, so the real power was probably there, this was 'confirmed' by the rep.

Great feature set though, especially the on-board computer, on-screen parking sensors and 10-speaker audio.

I await the actual 2012 Jetta sedan so I can make a final comment.

I should mention the Passat's dash failed by spoiling the simulated wood trim by adding a full central dash panel of brushed aluminum which looked rally cheesy for the 'caliber' of car.

Great features set:
- 1.4 Turbo Super Charged Engine (160 Horsepower)
- 7 Speed DSG Tiptronic Transmission
- Bluetooth Handsfree with Control on Steering
- Electromechanical PowerSteering
- Semi-Auto Airconditioning - Climatic with Rear Vents
- All One-Touch Power Windows
- Remote Central Locking
- Front, Side & Curtain Airbags (Front Passenger with deactivation)
- 4 Wheel Disc Brakes
- ABS with Electronic Stability Programme
- Telescopic adjustable Steering
- Height Adjustable Driver & Front Passenger Seat
- Split Fold Rear Seat 60/40
- 6 Cd/Mp3 Touch Screen In Dash Stereo with SD Card Slot
- 10 Speaker Stereo System
- Fog Lights
- Rear Map Reading Lights
- Multi-Function Steering
- Speed Control Door Locks
- Front & Rear Optical Parking Sensors (Display on Radio)
- Keyless Entry
- 16" Alloy Rims with Wheel Locks (Navarra Rims)
- Anti-Theft System & Immobilizer
- Side Impact Door Beams
- Power Side View Mirrors

NO HIDs though  (Odd for a Euro)

norstar2k....ya should have drove it in sport mode :D ...it wakes up the car and also in regular drive mode the supercharger pushes the engine from 0 - 2400rpm (low end torque is had here)...this is where we felt the "delay" cuz remember a supercharger saps engine power as it runs off the pulley system, but once it picks up then you feel the max power after 1500rpm,on the other hand, when its in sport, its aggressive and the twin clutch tranny is jerky(even in drive mode)and pulls really well as the turbo system achieves max boost at 3500rpm all the way to the redline(from here the supercharger is disengaged via a clutch control mechanism)...

With regard to the cabin space, believe it or not the jetta sedan's cabin will be bigger by about 2-3inches in leg room, shoulder room and rear leg room...you will feel the difference here, but as you said we will have to test drive them once they hit our shores.

btw did you feel the jerky-ness of the transmission in drive from standstill?...the good thing is the tranny fluid doesn't have to be replaced throughout the life of the car as its a dry clutch system and you can expect about +300,000km before a clutch replacement is required. This is what peaked my interest in my search for the least maintenance required car in this cuntry

Hey guys I have a dealership in the UK that I get all kinds of almost new cars (under 2 years and 12k miles) for a lot less than the stealerships here want. I have the BMW, Jaguar, Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes, Hondas (type R), Evo X, take your pick. If you want something drop me a line and I'll get you the price.

How we work the deal is the money is put into an escrow account until the car is cleared and delivered to you. That way your protected and so are we.

Sample
Jaguar XF 10k miles v6 luxury edition 550k
BMW Z4 8k miles 535k 3 ltr not the crappy 2.2 ltr the dealer sells

- 1.4 Turbo Super Charged Engine (160 Horsepower)

I don't see what the big deal is about having 160 hp in a Jetta. That's like having a standard 2.0 in the car.

I guess if the Jetta came with a 158 hp 2.0, no one would be up in arms about it. Now that it has a "Twincharged" (super turbo) engine, folks believe that this is some kind of rocket.

you need to drive it yourself and see...the "big deal" with this engine is this...1.4twin charged engine 160hp 0-60sec takes 7.9sec ,is faster and more economical than the related 2.0 FSI 160hp engine...with fuel consumption better than any diesel VAN you will get here in Trinidad...this complimented in a twin clutch DSG transmission (same you getting in lets say a porsche or evo) ...no other manufacturer in the world has done an engine like this before..and for this reason and other technical features, it won an engine of the year award..

if you have money to spare these engine taking up to 300hp on stock internal once ya go manual also

"an" award? lulz

Actually, the 1.4 TFSI has won more consecutive engine of the year awards than most manf'rs can ever boast of in the past ten years. it is now the template by which other manufacturers (hyundai, porsche etc) aim to power their hot hatches on.

The DSG is also something i yearn to see more cars with.

my point however was missed. it was more focused on the hype becuase it's "forced induction", as in

"it turbo so it must be a sports car"

for example i remember meeting a fellow at the showroom once, and had to explain to him that the Jetta altho it is twincharged, is still not a sportscar. it is still intended as a luxury sedan, like a mini a4 for example. he wanted to compete with evos.
when looked at in perspective, the car is an amazing offering - for what it IS. the last gen jetta with the 1.4 twincharged, at it's price was a steal.

no other manufacturer in the world has done an engine like this before

twin charging? that's been done in the past-repeatedly. Nissan for example. Gruppe B cars yada yada yada.

I assume you know this, so I guess u mean twincharging + DSG combo?

If so - agreed. talking abt that, i wonder if the polo gti will reach down here?
now that car will be more befitting of this powerplant.

Drove it already. Love it. The 6 speed is pretty good, ratios seem close between 2 3 and 4.

Car pulls strongly, and the ride is pretty solid. It's not a rocket ship but for what it is, it's zippy.

My only complaint is that I wish the interior had slightly more space.

Yeah I meant the twin combo...if you see the cost of the polo gti online in UK,the pricing is very close to the Golf GTI so I highly doubt we getting that here...remember is Trinidad we living? we get sheit car for big money here (comparatively speaking)

Swift Sport is so much lighter, should be easy pickings for the Suzuki. When corners arrive its also game over Hyundai.

I read reviews stating that this is the area where the Elantra seems still last gen. Handling, Braking and some interior material refinement. Otherwise it scores high, if not highest in class for exterior styling and engine/tranny performance.
