Dont fancy the look of the new elantra but it seems to be good value for money. How about reliability from these new kia and hyundais, any good??

^^ no reason to suggest that they won't be reliable. The Koreans have been working extremely hard to match their Japanese competitors on the quality and reliability side. Look up a video on the Elantra's new GDi engine.....real cutting edge technology and 140hp from a N/A 1.6 is quite impressive.... not to mention 40 mpg

^^not really since honda b16a used to put out a 160hp from 1.6L and thats way back when. I dont see why they shouldnt be reliable, but i know a couple years back, the kio rio was getting transmission failures

Well I was focusing on current 1.6L engines....the B16A would not pass current emissions requirements. But of the crop of 1.6L mills in 2011 models the Hyundai is definitely the best.

Of course I drive a B16A Civic and I'm still pissed at Honda for not supplying an updated equivalent engine for the current Civic.

That Elantra eh reach yet? I was shopping around in March for a car and the sales rep in N&M say they getting the new Elantra by June.

Call Ansa Motors, Great Pick-up to buy but really bad aftersales service. Fords always tells you to have to change/replace this or that. Its all a money making scam if you dont know about cars/vans.

you can get a 2007 model landed and cleared inclusive of MVT, VAT, CIF, license/registration fee, number plate, one day insurance cover note, cleaned/detailed and full tank of gas for approx. $637,000.00 TTD

If I missed anything then you know the figure going up...plus if you going through a dealer then you gotta add a high markup.

You talk a lot of sense there bro. I think the main problem with people in Trinidad is that they don't take the time to do enough research on the price/reliability factor of the cars they choose to buy. At 172K, I WOULD NEVER buy a Japanese when I can get a Euro for just 2K more.

fellas talking after my own heart jed.! I love my octy and the price was amazing. and believe me i had spreadsheets done with other models, prices, features, ratings, etc... after i get in accident with my octy and walk out without a scratch (other driver wasnt so lucky :( ) i continue to swear by euros. Just closing the door on a euro you feel the quality and sturdiness. Service on time and get your oem parts from abroad or ppl like ERM and you have a car for life.

Kia bought the Audi lead designer for the TT to help redesign their lines hence they look so good now. Why didn't they buy out the lead engineers to add more quality and reliability to the line?

I won't bother to argue this but I can tell you with assurance that when certain automobile manufacturers purchase build components from their suppliers they have a choice of A, B, C, etc grade... right down to nuts and bolts and plastic fixtures. It all looks and feels the same but the difference is in the quality of materials and it is reflected in the price the manufacturer pays for it. So the vehicles built with the premium quality components are shipped to the markets where the reviews influence global sales and the other markets get the other grades...

The international standards you are referring to govern mostly the process of manufacturing for the vehicle manufacturer. Only companies with sound reputations and who are willing to spend the money for greater quality adhere to more stringent standards where even the manufacturers from whom they get their components and even the raw materials for those components adhere to the same stringent standard. This is why the likes of BMW, VW, Mercedes, Toyota, Nissan can trace a failed bolt all the way back to where there was a deviation from the standard which may have caused that bolt to have failed...

In terms of sales, features, etc of vehicles I give you win on anything you want to say cuz that not my niche... But when it comes to manufacturing, supply chain and standards, be careful what you stick your neck out for... :)

You have a point somewhat, because I always wonder why in USA Hyundai offers a 10 year warranty while stile maintaining low prices, but in T&T we get the normel 2-3yr warranty

That may not necessarily be the manufacturer's doing! Local dealers often offer lesser warranties. So if the manufacturer warranty is 10 yrs and the dealers give you 3 yrs it means that the dealer has 7 years added protection (ie make more $$ on our heads). If you have a warranty claim and your warranty is up you pay the dealer but the dealer pays nothing to the manufacturer if the manufacturer warranty is still valid! maybe only shipping...
