MGMAN before yuh start typin reeeeeeeee..................
take a little read on the info below .
FYI its going into production in India this year. India is the only country at the moment that plans to put this technology into full production to combat the coming worldwide energy crisis. And People in the 21st Century still call India an underdeveloped, backward country.
Forward thinking if you ask me ..
Just my .02 cents.
:D

I find it strange how this technology has been commonplace since the 1800's and Tata motors is the only company heavily investing in it.
GM with the chevy volt is the only other company that is developing a vehicle albeit a plug in hybrid with a 1.0 litre gas engine to address the massive gas shortages / gouging of the future. Are all the other automotive companies blind that the press pf gas at the pumps willl reach
U.S$ 10/gallon in the not too distant future?

the technology was around, but consider the following:
Limited range
Limited power
Limited power demands minimal weight, so fewer feature comforts and limited size

How many people will give up their luxuries for the inconvenience of going green??? not many
Just look at the continued growth in sales of gas-guzzling SUVs

The technology suits India..........notice, Tata will not be exporting the car, it will be IDM

Just a big rape at the pumps.

Well limited range because no one invested in the technology as yet. Consider this, Toyota made a prius which is a joke because it is still doesn't outperform a diesel in range and performance.
However if Toyota and other car companies formed an alliance together with technology sharing, they would have come up with a hybrid diesel.
If Toyota and VW and Honda did this as a joint venture and released their products at the same time, the price would not have been as high for the vehicle as people would think. In fact some people are saying that it would be kept at the same price as a regular Toyota carolla for a compact vehicle. Car Companies are generally greedy ! FACT :
A hybrid Diesel or a plug in Hybrid Diesel can easilly give 100 miles a gallon fuel efficiency as well as the performance diesels are noted for.
If same chassis platforms were used as well as a shared drivetrain design was implemented cost will come down. This will only happen when people start rioting, then you will see a flood load of technology becoming mainstream.. Capitalism feed the rich starve the masses.
