i still dislike the front grille and how the headlights look on the sti...just like how i hated the older model but it grew on me
did not expect the new sti to be that quick, seems to understeer exactly like the old one but just overall more grip.
poor showing by the evo x tho, even after all that hype

interesting result.....the X is hmm..h.eavy?.......but that new Sti runing nice.....hate the shape....but it really did its job, starting from last on the grid to the first...

whats even more noticable is the positon of the old Sti to the IX...the IX was blown out the water....

Hold Up Hold Up Hold Up

STUDY THAT VIDEO VERY CAREFULLY!

I don't really like the EVO-X that much but fair is fair...look at the shift points of the evo-x ESPECIALLY in and out corners and then compare that to the shifting of Dori Dori in the new STi or even Kinoshita in the older STi  Those guys had the needle bouncing off of 8k at nearly EVERY shift...the evo's on the other hand were barely even pushed that hard. I didn't see one time where the X or even the IX was anywhere close to hitting the limiter

STis did hit the rev limiter, but driving style is no excuse, or possibly the scoobys just revved faster and hit higher shift points on the circuit, but the result does not surprise me but will have little influence on purchases esp here where rally inspired cars are bought by straight-line enthusiasts

What's the red line of the X? Looks like around 7K, in which case he was shifting very much close to 7.5K or more. The early shots of tack were all on approach to a corner so wasn't passing 7k. Also, the lines the X driver were using were horrible - driving wide in the corners not protecting his lead and letting everyone and their grandmother through.

But then again, these videos are usually setups to show the flavour of the month as the winner. Pinch of salt.

The new Sti did seem more raunchy, raw and responsive though. Looks like the more fun factor car than the X.

I was watching the Evo X rpm drop rather low on up shifts which i found interesting but it is clear that the impreza was faster and easier to drive hard.

Seems that there is more fun to be had in the Sti regardless of driving style. Like the new layout of the console too.

It took a few iterations even for Ferrari to get the paddle shifters right on their production cars and Maserati up to last year fouled it up on one of their models. Not saying anything wrong with the X's set-up, just recalling stuff from the not too long past.

No doubt all the thoroughbreds from all manufacturers have it smooth like glass in their racing programs but its bridging the gap that has some issues.

With all the new electronic this and that, it is getting considerably more difficult for the avg / expert tuner to start tinkering abt just to ooze the hp out.

Are manufacturers making the slow move towards tamper-proof ECUs?

Just somethn to think abt...esp with these cars...

Yup bill that's what I said too...
Sanctifier wrote:Yup. Great electronic handling aids and gear-shift... BUT...
Too tall... too heavy... too slow compared to most older Evos.
Evo X may be a BIG seller for mainstream market...
but Subaru will have a field day next year with 2nrs.

Looks like a good candidate for a diet plus an early power upgrade next year.
All in favour of Evo 10.5 RS2?...

Tsuchiya wrote:gimme a 6.5 tommi mak and i good

:D Evo X has quicker gearchange, better adhesion and handling...
 Sorry, but I still don't like the styling...I prefer my Evos more "edgey."
 Evo X is TOO BIG! Jeez! It's 4 inches taller and 2 inches wider than the Evo IX :!:
... Good Lord! That's almost as big as a "Shark-mouth" Galant!
 DAMN IT'S HEAVY!... Evo IX is over 250 lbs heavier than E6 TME RS2.
:!: Evo X is more than 350 lbs HEAVIER than E6 TME. Almost 3 passengers extra.
 Evo X's extra weight will need much more power just to stay even with older Evos.

If you have to spend nearly $400k and then upgrade Evo X just to compete with older Evos then just buy older Evo and upgrade suspension, wheels and turbo. Better results IMHO.
