They probably read this article GBTBT

http://www.toysport.com/Technical%20Inf ... _notes.htm

The 2ZZGE has problems. Bent valves from missed shifts have been common. Sticking valve mechanism also cause unscheduled visits to the Toyota Dealers.

A recurring question- why did the MRS end with the 1ZZFE? Overall, the 1ZZFE was more compatible to the overall concept. The 2ZZGE would need more attention driving (to extract the power)- detracting from the fun aspect of cruising. For diehards- yes we can do the 2ZZGE conversion.

Also K20A has more hp (220 > 180) and torque (152 lbs ft >130 lbs ft) than the 2ZZ-GE.

I wonder how that would go against the 2zz mrs they had in BMI that lick up the kei office s15.

That 2zz problem has been long solved tho val.....just to put it to rest.

But i find toyota do bulltata not offering the mr-s with the 2zz. Simple swap really.

FE is the one without lift control, has 140 hp I think.VVT-I only.
GE is VVTL-I 180 hp.

1ZZ-FE and 2ZZ-GE

The G and F indicates the manifold-runner length or something so. A Toyota person would be able to clarify that

the FE and GE codes after the dash in toyota engine codes go like this

G- Wide Angle Twin Cam
F- Narrow Angle Twin Cam
T- Turbo
Z- Supercharger
E- Electronic Fuel Injection
U- Japanese Emission Control
C- California Emission Control

so for example a 2zz-GE means :
zz is the engine family (others would include 1zz-fe(1.8L no lift and Narrow Angle cams ,3zz-fe(1.6L lift and Narrow Angle cams--sent to regions where fuel contains high sulfer content)
2 is the version in that family
G- it features Wide Angle Twin Cam
E- it is EFI

FE is the one without lift control, has 140 hp I think.VVT-I only.
GE is VVTL-I 180 hp.

the 1zz-FE has no lift control as stated and the 2zz does.....but the FE and GE codes have nothing to do with lift control nor does it denote variable valve timing technology used. E.G. the 2nz-fe comes in 2 versions.....one with VVT-i and one without. The one without VVT-i is sent to regions that use leaded fuel (doh ask me wtf we does get it in de yaris down here) However both use the engine code 2nz-fe with no variation

i'm sure you guys sure the spirits garage MR-S with the 2ZZ powerplant, it wooped everyone on the MINE circuit (champ S14, Kei Office S15, Amuse S2000) and it was NA. is it really cheaper at the end of the day to throw in the K20a? anyways, least they stayed NA!

They've had different cars featured on various BMI DVDs, the last one was on American Togue 2. Tsuchiya loves them. 8-)

Those mr-s fackers mad!!

When you talk to them about 3zz......they don't think about the Toyota OEM 3zz-fe engine.......they think about this frank they make with the 1zz-fe and the rods from the 1nz or some other engine.......to give them a BLOODY 13-14 compression ratio. WDMC they does do that for i doh know yes.......but its c16 in the arse whole day.
