Yes I acknowledge that nobody wants to buy a car today that looks 95% the same as what the neighbour bought 7 years ago
There's a sort of replacement in the CX 60 that's hybrid as well, not sure if SS will bring it.

Nissan CVTs are like the worst in the world. So while the Qashqai not bad looking but coming from a Toyota to a Nissan? Hard decision after watching all those td47 vids. I find my cx5 looks freaking gorgeous for a 7 year old design. It looks fresh to me keeping in mind I came from a car launched in Japan around 1998. For 365 I came in over 100k cheaper than the rav4, crv and forester.

Do you all even care where your car is made? Hardly I see people talking about its origin or the type of transmission in it. Everything can’t be sunroof, awd, leather seats, push start, size of the display screen and turbo

Took the car to the car wash yesterday and one of the guys pointed out that my 2 left Mazda caps are missing. These mc pests!

They had the CX30 awhile back, but it seems that has been discontinued.

They were only bringing that with a 2.0l engine.
The MVT musta been killer.

2025 Facelifted Qashqai. Dont know how to feel about the front but painting the unpainted black plastic trims at the bottom was needed. Hopefully Massy brings the E Power version this time around.

Yeah was considering that instead but unfortunately there's none in stock and they can't say when next they may bring in any. They're possibly trying to push the GV sales I guess.

He also had a look at the Seltos (fully loaded trim), Sportage (basic trim) and the Eclipse Cross (basic trim).

Both the Kias had nice features though the Seltos was kind of under powered with its 1.5L and that white accent interior would get dirty quickly with him. The Sportage (basic) seemed better though with less features.

The Eclipse Cross (basic) was kind of bland feature wise but was a 1.5L turbo and AWD. Though at the higher end of budget it did come with 3 yrs insurance included if financed through them. But felt a bit like paying more for less (though almost similar in price to the Sportage which had no free insurance)

And again because of Lifestyle's 5 yr warranty luring him, he also had the Ssangyong Korando on his list (mid trim although even the fully loaded too given the discount through their financing is in the running). Interior is pretty bland but has a 1.5L turbo and is AWD. Just don't know if Ssangyong is any good.

Basically he's trying to keep budget below 300k and no hybrids (he's even considering taking the GV out of the running because of this even though it's a "mild hybrid"). AWD or not just needs a good enough engine not too puny that's struggling to overtake or up some mild to moderate hills.

So what do you guys think about the options... Seltos, Sportage, Eclipse Cross, Korando and GV I guess as a last resort? Any others to look at? Thanks.

I don't think those asx's are awd, if they call it all wheel control (awc) it's not awd, it's just a brake vectoring system which acts on all four wheels.

The korando is pretty nice, it uses an aisin transmission which is owned by Toyota, it's been around a while so the bugs in it should be worked out.

If checking out the korando, the top trim is the only one with awd, lifestyle also bringing in the torres soon, it's more upscale than the korando and looks better, it's also bigger, uses the same 1.5 turbo though.

As was mentioned before with most of lifestyle vehicles, you would be at their mercy for parts.

They nice but the prices dawdi!!!!!
Both start closer to 400k in the respective showrooms.

Sat in the new CRV recently and my instant thought was why is it so small inside. I think it has a low roof.
When I set the driving position to my preference behind me had some space but not enough for an adult IMO. When I sat in the rear my head touched the roof. For an SUV that is somewhat shameful.

The XTrail is significantly bigger inside that the CRV.

The Super all wheel Control system of the Eclipse Cross is a four wheel drive system.
It's also does the brake vectoring as one of three components of the system but it does have a rear diff

Did you look under it? Because I'm not seeing anything about awd on the local model, there's nothing about it on the site or the brochure, only the s-awc which is just vectoring on all wheels.

Unless Mitsubishi is making a different S-AWC for the tens of cars they sending to Trinidad this is what their site says the system is. As it shows power is delivered to four wheels

Depends on what you want.

Xtrail is Japanese and Qashqai is a euro with euro problems.

Headliner falls down after a couple of years, quirky little design flaws like the rubber tube protecting tailgate wiring just needs to get shifted a cm or two and your car interior is gonna flood. Cooling system and CVT is a concern.

But the suspension and drive of the car feels euro and the interior feels amazing.

The X-Trail is also produced at a plant in Taiwan and two more plants in China. Where are the Trinidad imports coming from?

So my dad decided to up the budget to the 350k or so range and has now narrowed it down to either the top spec Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross or the top spec (minus the 2 tone paint one) Nissan Qashqai and maybe the mid spec Kia Sportage as a last option.

The Grand Vitara is out and no top spec Korando available and they can't say when next they're getting. Toyota Corolla Cross was an option but has to be special ordered and could take 4 months, so this is out too.

So what's you guys think between the 3 - Eclipse Cross, Qashqai or Sportage (mid spec though). I'd appreciate any feedback on which way to go. Thanks.

The competitors are basically large Crossover SUVs so like the Honda Pilot Toyota, Mazda CX90, Grand Highlander the sister would be the Kia Telluride. All these vehicles are not really for our market. Last time I checked the Santa Fe was around 600k (madness) so it would be safe to assume that the Palisade would be closer to 800k if not more which would be insane.

Thy almost Prado territory price…it’s an interesting take by Massy to bring them so I assume the other competitors are coming or massy really trying to push MG n Hyundai try dominate the market.

Maybe they are for politicians or a Ministry. The tax exempt status would make them more reasonable

After reading what Tezzadude said about their Mazda buys, I feel them Japanese automakers really stepping up their game lately! Me, I'm a BMW man through and through, but even I considering a Mazda for the next ride. They have plenty power and a real nice interior without breaking the bank. But I wondering what allyuh think - this Mazda-Toyota partnership going to be a game changer? And what about the smaller brands like Suzuki and Proton - they have a chance against the big boys or nah?

I'm actually shocked with how quickly we got this. Major RHD markets like Australia havent gotten their hands on this and South Africa's launch is delayed Japan had their unveiling last week.
