I don’t have the appetite to be a product tester using my own money but hats off to the MG buyers. Not so familiar with the different product lines but the cheap ones look really cheap and the bigger SUVs and van looks nice.

Cheap as chips ... Also if mass adoption happens then parts and service outside of mASSy shouldn't be an issue.

I guess hyundai is now a premium brand in mASSy's line up.

I think mass adoption currently happening, I think the purists who think beyond the new car paint and smell still worry about long term reliability and accessibility to parts, MG is part of the SAIC group so the presumption is that their cars will share parts with other badges in the group but nothing else is sold here so no track record to assist but organically local parts places will eventually start to stock up. The local review of the MG HS that couldn’t even make it up Chancellor without the transmission overheating was a big red flag. My own VW experience about DCT which is also in these cars gives me even more hesitancy.

Really?
Drove an HS for 3 weeks without any issues, never had any transmission issues. I guess i have experience driving a DCT from my jetta days. Did mountains, Highways, Country roads. On a hill start it did roll back 2-3 inches so I used to ease off the break while pressing the accelerator.

I know plenty Trinis who does use the accelerator to not roll down a hill.
Maybe thats what they were doing to overheat the transmission.

Holy sheit ... Thats bad

I rented it in the UK in March when the outside temp was 6 to 10 degrees C. Maybe thats why i never got any transmission over heating issues.

But yeah thats crazy .... Best to stay away.
Sorry for the all the new adopters.

Three weeks is not a good testament, need a good year+ to be honest, 3 weeks in you really won't get issues with any vehicle, check us back after the warranty done, give it a 6months after then tell us.

Wait till massy gets the facelifts especially in the HS and it would be proper invasion of these vehicles on our roads. I dont know why Massy market these vehicles as a "Premium British" brand when its no longer owned by and being made there and people are jumping on the bandwagon calling it a premium brand :? . Nonsense really.

The MG aesthetics are fine, it just find it surprising how quickly the badge has taken off locally, usually new brands take a while to resonate with the consumer

Don't those vehicles come with Hill start assist... Wouldn't be rolling back at all once it works and is used correctly

Absolutely.
The Koreans have the best value for money.
And well now the Chinese but nothing new there.
A box of chinese food still beats all but like with vehicles the long term effects are questionable.

Nah on steep hills was still getting some roll back. Its bad with it off and mild with it on.
I guess it took some time for the clutches to engage.
It was a rental with around 20,000 miles on it, clutches may have been abused so this could have been the culprit vs a new one without abused clutch plates.

Hybrid (high output)
EV
1.5 (or is it a 1.3) gas engine...

Was it one recently ordered into the country? Or a local supplier already had stock before whatever going on with that van and customs?

Classified as hybrid 1.5 turbo for tax purposes

but that has changed now since customs figured out it does not fall under the exemptions.

The main issue with exemptions and the X-Trail ePower is that the kW output from the battery pack exceeds 105kW, which is the limit for hybrid exemptions (1599cc & 105kW or lower).

I really wonder why this is even a thing ...

The electric cars don't seem to have a KW output limit for the exemptions.
Tesla's have high output motors and zero tax. So why limit the hybrids?

Same can be said for Taycan, Mustang Mach E, Jaguar iPace. Some really backwards thinking there. The whole ePower platform is pretty cool (IMO), heard that the ePower X-Trails pulls really hard! Seem's they don't want the average person to own anything nice!

Had my first drive in the epower eforce xtrail.

6.1 l/100KM
went from Lange Park to freeport and back no traffic.
This thing is responsive AF, the acceleration is amazing, Well cabin is really insulated wrt outside noise and suspension is tuned nicely ... a tad bit stiffer than my folks 2021 CRV.

Highway driving the engine was always on, never heard it though. Urban driving engine will only kick in after battery is at 25%, will top it up to 40% and then shut off.
Gas tank is huge compared to my civic, >800Km in a tank.
Nice feature set, Lane keep assist, Adaptive cruise control that works really well.

Has one pedal driving but its set up different from pure EVs. Car will slow to a creep and you have to use the friction brakes to come to a complete stop. Guess they did this so it would feel like a normal car also you dont want the brake rotors rusting out on you.

Loads of trunk space and back seats are spacious so great for the family.

Huh…. 6l/100kms, that’s what I get in my forester now.

So only real benefit for all the tech and ‘hybrid’ is if you running super vs my premium.

Nah im running premium ... 1.5T engine
So no benefit there.

I guess the upfront savings with no MVT/Duty/VAT is the only benefit.

I'm guessing Pg1 hasn't been updated since 007 left.
The new Qashqai starts at $305k and not $285k as on the first page. I suspect a few of the other listings particularly for the Massy brands are also outdated since they seem to be the one most price change proclivity

Did not know he left.

I real msged him and told him about the Subaru Outback and Forester to update pg 1.

If anyone else has pricing to add - could ask Duane to update
