Agree 100 percent with the euro brands, tell them they need to drop the price of that juke lolagent007 wrote:From a LOCAL Nissan/Massy perspective, take a look a this analysis below:
Datsun Cross - appears to be a market flop and thus unable to determine current importation status
March - last K13's I ever saw they imported were PDU's back in 2018. We never got the K14 and coming to think of it, looking back, I don't think they ever brought in the K11 or K12 either. So the K13 we got, you could say it replaced the K10
Dayz - never imported officially
Roox - never imported officially
Cube - discontinued. Only a few Z10's were imported and no replacement came thereafter
Tiida - discontinued to make way for the Versa N17
Versa - discontinued with no apparent replacement
Note - never imported officially
Leaf - I don't think we got any version for sale on an official capacity
Pulsar - never imported officially
Sunny - discontinued but replaced the Datsun 120Y
Almera - discontinued but replaced the Sentra B14
Wingroad - discontinued but replaced the Wingroad Y11.
Bluebird Sylphy - discontinued but replaced the Almera N16
Sentra - Updated in other markets but we're special to keep the original 2012 design more or less. Not sure if this is still imported but I know for a fact that they had inventory back in 2020. This B17 replaced the Bluebird Sylphy G11
Bluebird - discontinued but replaced the Datsun 180B
Laurel - discontinued and eventually got replaced by the Laurel Altima A31
Bluebird SSS - discontinued but got replaced with the Primera P11
Laurel Altima - discontinued with no apparent replacement locally
Cedric - we managed to get the 330 and 430 series but never any replacement to it thereafter
Primera - discontinued with no apparent replacement for the P12 which replaced the P11
Maxima - discontinued and made way for the Cefiro. This A33 actually replaced the A32 which replaced the J30
Cefiro - discontinued. It replaced the Maxima A33 but also fell victim to replacement with the Teana J32
Teana - discontinued and got replaced with the Altima L33
Altima - discontinued with no apparent replacement
Fuga - never imported officially
Stagea - discontinued and never imported officially
Cima - discontinued and never imported officially
200SX - discontinued but we did get a few units
Silvia - I think we got a handful of S14's but I'm not too sure. Either way, Silvia is discontinued.
370Z - when last they actually imported one of these? Last one I saw from the showroom was a PCZ. These 370's replaced the 350Z but I don't think we got the 300ZX so the 350Z came like the successor to the 280ZX locally
Skyline - never imported officially
GT-R - never imported officially
Juke - after a little lull period, the F15 was replaced with the F16
Kicks - not available
Magnite - not available
Qashqai - current stock are the older J11's which replaced the J10's. No reason to doubt the inevitable arrival of the J12
X-trail - current stock are the older T32's which replaced the T31 which also replaced the T30. No reason to doubt the inevitable arrival of the T33
X-Terra - discontinued and never imported officially
Ariya - not sure if available for our market yet or not
Murano - we managed to get the Z51 however we never got the prior Z50. The current Z52 is no where to be seen.
Terrano - never imported officially
Terra - not available locally
Pathfinder - we got the last generations in niche numbers, ie. R52, R51 and R50 and have no reason to doubt the inevitable arrival of the current R53 under special order only
Patrol - we managed to get the Y61 and the older 260 series but the current Y62 is no where to be seen
NP300 Frontier - this D23 is the official line replacement for the D40, D22, D21 and the old Datsun lineup. A crucial member of Massy's current Nissan portfolio.
Titan - not available locally
NV150 - never imported officially
NV200 - a current first-time import
NV250 - not available locally
NV300 - not available locally
NV350 - a current import and the successor to the ubiquitous Urvan series such as the E23, E24 and E25
NV400 - not available locally
Prairie - never imported officially
Livina - we got a few of these but I am not sure about it's current importation status. I think it flopped.
Serena - we got the C24 locally but none of the newer replacements were imported in the form of the C25, C26 and C27
Elgrand - never imported officially
Quest - never imported officially
Civilian - not even sure if these are still imported
Cabstar/Atlas trucks - discontinued
So from that MEGA list, the current line-up would be the Sentra (possibly), Juke, Qashqai, X-trail, NP300, NV200 and NV350.
Massy's mainstream brands are Nissan and Hyundai. Their niche brands are Subaru, Volvo and Volkswagen. Given Nissan's scant line-up locally and Volkswagen's almost ghostly presence, I can understand why they are attempting to get hold of another value/budget brand to increase their market share. I'm not sure if MG is that brand to do it for them but only time will tell. To me, they should have re-introduced the local market with Peugeot, Renault, Opel or even Skoda.
Isuzu and Mazda dealer are under the same umbrella so pricing competition will be interestingagent007 wrote:Just do a comparison between the mazda and Isuzu and see which is cheaper based on the equivalent grade. If the bt50 in top spec trim is more expensive than the dmax also in top spec trim and both have the same equipment, it simply makes sense to buy the dmax. I love mazdas but if it turns out that it is more expensive than the dmax (as it historically was) then the choice is clear here.
On the topic of pickups, this is huge news what I'm about to share. A local grey market dealer based in Central posted up that they are taking orders for the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro which comes with a 3.5 V6 twin turbo. It's basically the all new Land Cruiser but in the form of a pickup.
Thing is, even though the platform and drivetrain can accommodate RHD, I'm not seeing any substantial evidence online that suggests this new Tundra would be RHD, so what you all think? The dealer giving us a 2022 April fools in advance or not?

I think I recall seeing a RHD variant for the Tundra TRD Pro going to be available in Australia at least

Massy is managing some of the major econo EV brands right now (Nissan, VW, Hyundai) and aside from the Hyundai Ioniq EV and Nissan e-NV300 there isn't much. Are they getting the Nissan Leaf or Ariya, VW ID 3 or ID4 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Kona EV?
EVs are going to be forced on us whether we like it or not, best to jump on the wagon early.

Two years ago I attended a research symposium at UTT (exactly 2 years last week actually). Energy was a big topic and there were presentations by NGC on CNG and by Massy on electric. A Massy manager indicated the Leaf was supposed to be in Trinidad and on sale by Q2 2020. Maybe Covid affected that.

Yea that was before I took the pic, it was at piarco, then they came back onto the highway after.2WNBoost wrote:The comment talks about driving on the shoulder but the picture shows vehicles on either side.zando wrote:Here it is ladies and gents, 290k worth of juke on the road being driven on the shoulder to escape traffic lights lol smaller in real life.
agent007 wrote:Triniboi, you may want to check out the Forester if the XV is too small. I'm seeing good deals for roro 2018 Xtrails and CRVs as well.
In other news, the MG3 is $169k. Available from as early as September.
agent007 wrote:Depends on what is important for you. Fuel economy and decent power are its key points. To committ to a vehicle that has poor resale, questionable long term reliability and a hybrid system with a shorter shelf life means it would be good for the first 5-8yr loan period. Question is, what happens after 5-8 yrs? Do you really want that kind of vehicle (especially a Kia) that is out of warranty? The idea is to committ to the vehicle. Maximize ROI by keeping it beyond the loan period or the initial 5-8yrs. Good thing is, you can procure parts easily in Miami and by-pass the dealer locally. Up to you!
