A friend of mines told me he might be gettin one of these engines.. But NO HARNESS AND NO BRAIN..

Does it make any sense to buy this engine or I could get aftermarket stuff to work?>

And what would be a good price to pay for it?> engine and box .. and engine and tranny?? I would like to know and average cost.. so I can tell him if I am takin it or not...

SR20VE goes for around 7k. SR16VE would probably be around the same. The SR16 only came with 5FWD gearbox.
Although you can get it running with the correct SR20DE harness and ECU (and a piggyback computer) I would recommend he pass on it unless he's getting the SR16VE ECU with it.

so what if we use the SR20 VE harness / brain/ airflow/ injectors? would that work? and what would be a reasonable price to pay for the engine and box?

Would a standlone work? Just curious...provided price isn't an issue

20VE and 16VE have the following same identical parts (this doesn't include the 16VE N1) and this list is not exhaustive.

Block (crank, rods and pistons diferent)
Head (cams different)
Distributor
Injectors & Fuel Rail incl. FPR
Intake manifold (incl throttle, IACV/AAC, TPS is different, single plug 1.6, dual 2.0)
MAF
Temperature sensor

The SR20VE harness and brain would work no problem on the 16VE *** BUT***

You will need to use a set of DE injectors. The ecu would limit RPM to 7300 instead of the 8000 or so the 16VE ecu would give u (this means u will not realise the full potential of the engine). U might have to adjust Fuel Pressure slightly, most likely reduce to get a good A/F ratio. The 20VE harness would have some extra plugs for the tranny.

U can get an original 16VE ecu from the states for about $200 USD.

If it is cheaper u can use a DE harness as well, new model preferably, u will only have to lenghten the O2 sensor plug and run wires for the VVL solenoids.

As sr18 Primera said the DE ecu can also be used (with any matching harness, DE or VE), u will need to retard timing a little for our gas and use a smaller injector, SR18 injectors would do the trick and reduce fuel pressure to get the right A/F ratio. The old DE ecu's would give u a better redline but the newer ones would require less rewiring to use the complete 16VE and all its components. If using the old model DE ecu u must use the old model DE MAF, if using the new model ecu then u can use either the VE MAF or the new model DE MAF.

cdx2k1, standalone computers depending on their capability will run any engine, u could even make d lawnmower EFI.

invest in a aem ems...we use it here in the staes with our ve/ve-t's and is definitely well worth the investment (providing u get the rite tuning)
