Marvel coil packs: Any good?

Postby MISHI » January 16th, 2021, 1:04 am

So been troubleshooting a random misfire in my local almera, where the car would randomly stumble and on some rare occasions, cut off. Changed the MAF (At some point there was a code for this, but still did it even after replacing), crank, cam sensors, plugs and did some ground upgrades/cleaning since the issue started last year... nothing changed it. Timing chain is tight and tensioner not at the end of it's life either.

Changed one or 2 coilpacks at that point and still had it.

So decided to make a jump and buy 4 aftermarket coilpacks. Had 2 options: JEC and Marvel. Went with Marvel due to the place having a full set in that one.

So far it seems smooth but could be a placebo. Just want to know if anyone uses them and if you had any issues with them / premature failure/ potential hazards, etc.

Not sure I'd want to put out 4 to 5k worth of OE packs, but I wouldn't want to have to put more due to these aftermarket ones damaging anything either.

Well the plugs were only 3 or 4 months old, but I do plan to change them still.

Never knew of the aftermarket brands till yesterday and dunno what are good aftermarket brands vs bad.

Just hopeful it doesn't cause any issues down the line.

I had never heard of or seen that brand before as well until I was hunting down an issue on the Mivec 3-4 years ago.
It turned out something else was the issue so I reinstalled the original coils so I cannot speak on the longevity of the MARVEL brand.

When utilising long life plugs I actually started checking resistance on them as that is a coil pack killer.

I still run the standard bkr5e plugs and change every year for the most. On average, every 6 months.

Put marvel in the CS and the 323 a while now.
23+k and going in the cs3.
323's odo has gone quietly into the night. :D
