almera headlights too dim

Postby blazer85 » October 19th, 2016, 10:38 am

i bought some new headlights and installed hallogen bulbs, now they shine really dim until i could barely see on the road. having to use high beam which now looks equivalent to low beam. got out the vehicle and look at the lights. weird shadows can be seen on the road. as if the headlight is not seated properly. double checked and they were. any advice?

pics of the headlight for reference - actual pics if possible.

things to check -
battery voltage - see if battery is good
alternator output - check to see if good.
check headlight relay and fuses - make sure theyre the recommended amperage / wattage
check bulbs....ensure its 55W 12 volt and not 25 W 12V. be warned installing higher wattage bulbs -100W 12 volts may not be recommended as they draw alot more current and heat up the wire harness and may cause the fuse to blow.

check the headlight itself...if the headlight designed for halogen or HID ?
is the reflector bowl painted of not??
is there a wire harness on the headlight assembly - is it too thin ??

what type headlights? i went from the two piece indicator/headlight setup with H4(dual beam bulb) headlight to the single piece H1 (2 separate beams) light, and the low beam is real sheit. The high beam is like a low beam as u say. Maybe its the cheap bulbs i bought lol
