how about if you post up your car, the engine involved and maybe a picture of the said pulley and then ppl who know and can actually help you wont have to consult see-ah-man to know what you talking about?

Nice, see how simple that was, now instead of the political rhetoric that hyperdude has spouted in order to increase his post count.....

That is sufficient info for me to tell you: that crank pulley should not wobble whatsoever.

That particular pulley is a two part harmonic dampener, the smaller pulley (4 groove, closer to the engine) is integral to the casting but the larger pulley, 6 groove, that has the timing marks, is floating on a continuous ring of rubber, this rubber deteriorates over time.

Unfortunately the pulley must be replaced. Else if it were to part company during operation at highway speeds during an evasive maneuver, the results may not be as fun as you would like.

I am surprised that you have not observed odd noises from the said pulley when the AC is engaged or when there is high electrical load, maybe a screeching/squealing. Or perhaps you have already procured a piglet for the upcoming xmas and thought it was he behaving in that manner and ignored it.

The VVL pulley in particular is notorious for this failure. Getting a FU one will only have the problem reoccur in a couple years, not to mention that they're a bit over priced currently due to the same failure and high demand. There are some tricks to ensure longevity of the part if you do find one in good condition, I am not going to go into that here.

The best long term option IMHO is to replace with a solid pulley, Gspec, Unorthodox, OBX etc. You will see a lot of talk on the sr20 forum about the solid pulley, pro's and con's but I can tell you I replaced mines and other friends with the Gspec more than 6 years ago and have not had any issues. The choice is yours.

I have previously discussed this same issue on this very forum maybe a couple times, I think I referred to it as the "dreaded pulley slip" incase you are inclined to look it up. I believe the person was having issues when trying to "time" the engine.

PS: I looking for a piglet but one from the smaller variety of pig like the potbelly variety, hit me up if you know.

^^ well said.

this happened to me, on the highway to...luckily it just made some serious noise but did not completely separate..drove to my mech and got it changed.

will invest in the solid pulley since i make highway runs daily...
