FLASHING AIR BAG LIGHT

Postby MONTIKAR » May 8th, 2005, 12:04 pm

Noticed this evening when i started my car (1998 sunny super saloon) the air bag light in the dash board started flashing and would not stop even after i switched off and restarted the car.
Need some advice quickly.

the air bag sensor may be bad ( not too sure though  ) you should however get that checked pronto cause you might never tell if that sheit may deploy on your @ss :|

Try this, see if it works like the Primeras.

Turn the ignition 'ON'
Press the driver side door switch 5 times quickly
Turn the key 'OFF' for at least 1 second
Turn it back on and see if the fault is cleared.

Sometimes a fault is generated just by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it quickly, or if the voltage dropped too low overnight.

Other than that have it checked, but ABS's don't usually deploy when the've detected a fault.

What Olton is saying is right, you have to reset the AIR BAG sensor, This is done by putting the key in the ignition and turning it to the ON position (not starting the car) and pressing the housing light door switch which is located at the side of the door at the bottom so when the door is closed it opens the switch and shuts the house light off. This button should be pressed about ten times and then the ignition switched off and then switched backed on and the air bag light should come off.

I have done this numerous times on nissan cars like the B14 and my primera and have also been able to program the standard nisssan primera key fobs or stock nissan alarms, so any help that may be needed with some of them I can see what I can do.

I never knew that sensors could be reset like this..... any chance I could do this to my ABS. The light comes on and off now and then, sometimes it stays off all day and then again it comes on. Could it be reset like the air bag sensor or do I have a faulty wheel sensor, I took them off and cleaned them but no luck, the front ones were pretty dirty with grease, I cleaned them off with a slight improvement with the light coming on less frequently. Any ideas/suggestions.

Most probably one of your wheel sensors need cleaning. This happens to me from time to time too when I start the car the ABS light may come on and stay on and when I shut it off immediately it and start again it may disappear. I have to take the time and clean the sensors and check my wiring for the sensors becaus eI found an ABS wire for one of my wheels was cut so I repaired it and the light came off but after a few months the light came back once in a while. I will have to investigate as well. If as you say this does not help as much then you may have to get someone with a diagnostic to check you sensros to see if they need changing but as well there is a way to reset the ABS computer I think but that I will have to investigate and let you know.

That's interesting! Does this technique apply to all Nissan vehicles which contain such sensors???

I don't see why it shouldn't work on others.

Ok I got the abs problem sorted out yesterday, I had bought the complete rotors, calipers etc from a primera CVT Primera Wagon (vvl) model which included the 2 wheel abs sensors, and after I changed the setup the abs light is off now. so it looked like it was one or maybe both front sensors were bad, so i'm lucky there, plus I got a brake upgrade from 10" to 11". Big improvement in braking, I would deffinatly advise primera owners to do this change.

Nice info there TriniGT and Olton. A friend of mine is having the same problem with the Air bag light on his Primera so I'll let him try it and report back.

GA16, I thought all sr20 Primera's came with the 11" disc? I had the sr18 model and did the 11" upgrade as well. Much improvement.

IIRC the skylines are 5 hole so they aren't a direct bolton upgrade. But it has been done.

Okay let me let you'll know, I am in the process of doing this conversion right now both front and rear setup, the front is bolt for bolt and the rotrs do not have to be trimmed at all unlike some of the 300zx rotors. The only thing that has to be adjusted is the brakeline attaching to the hardline on our cars.
