anyone know if you can service or repair the fuel guage for a tiida hatchback?.....filled up my tank the other day and it never went further than 3/4 tank on the guage......i think the mechanism in the tank is probably sticking intermittently......sticking on the way up and on the way down......anybody got some tips?

So see i aint gettin no tips..i decided to investigate for myself.....so i got up this evening and decided to have a go at it..
So... First and foremost...please disconnect your battery poll or polls before you start.....there are electrical connections near the tank and removing them could generate a spark that could ignite the gasoline vapours....be careful!!!
1. Removed back seat......4 - 14 bolts. 2. Locate gas tank entry point. 3. Turn and release 3 screws on cover. 4. Disconnect electrical and return fuel line from cover. 5. Turn counter clockwise and remove screw cover. 6. Slowly lift and tilt to remove pump assembly. note: Fuel has to be drained out...so lift and wait. when almost out..you have to tilt it so you wont damage the "float" and the metal arm. 7. investigate cause of problem. 8. remove black plastic cap holder. 9. remove float and rod. 10. begin cleaning.
it turned out it wasn't stiction, but the metal contacts were very dirty. I didn't take a picture of it before i started to clean it...but it was so dirty you couldn't make out the metal terminals in the middle at all....so.....armed with a paint brush...a pencil eraser...and a surgical knife....i went to work....took about 5-7 minutes and everything was cleaned. Mounted everything back up....put it back into to the car. (note: screw cover was harder to go back in...so used some wd-40) Guage works!!! before it was reading 1/4 tank....now its reading 1/2 tank....... So its just to go to the gas station and fill up to see if it really solved everything..will keep you posted.

Hi Densil, really glad that you got your situation ironed out. My fuel tank gauge is acting up and I guess that the contacts need cleaning. The problem in the Y12 is that I have to unbolt the entire rear seat before accessing the fuel pump which is a royal pain to begin with. Will have it cleaned when I go on vacation.
Great post. Interesting cuz I was wondering how to change the fuel filter and stuff. Turns out that you have to change the entire fuel assembly if you're changing the filter(if I'm wrong correct me please) An at motorist it costs over $3000... great price right? :/
I tried this but now my gauge is telling me e all the time.....The tank had fuel in it before i reinstalled the pump assembly. I took out the unit a few times and still on E
