Tiida 2006 e-4wd Generator Problem

Hi guys ...need some advice....i got and 06 tiida sedan..the electronic 4wd version.. the problem i am having is that the pulley for the "generator" for the motor to turn the rear wheels appears to be sticking intermitently.....the 4wd version uses a wider belt/longer belt....i wanted to know what are my options. can I
1) service or repair the generator?so it stops sticking. If so can anyone recommend someone and avg cost?
2) remove or condemn the generator and take it out and use a smaller belt from the normal 2wd sedan?
3) leave the generator in..but remove the internals if they are indeed bad and let it "free wheel" with the original belt/system.

Pros/Cons of any of the above options....or if anyone has any alternatives the options above

thanks in advance for the feedback

what I end up doing was this......I condemned the four wheel electronic thing... doing some research..I have a hr15de engine... went down to bicks... looked at a hr15 engine.... took the engine belt, the manual adjustable pulley with the engine bracket......( the hr15de engine has a self tensioner pulley that cost $3700) came back home removed the alternator, removed the ac compressor, removed the old self tensioning pulley and the entire old bracket... mounted the new manual tensioner with bracket, the ac compressor and alternator back up to the engine with the new shorter belt..... and wala... converted the engine to a 2we... works like a charm now...I spent $1000tt..... on the foreign used parts... did all the work myself.. took 2 hours... engine was hot....lol... couldn't wait for it to cool down.... the only issue now is that the 4wd light on the dash is illuminated constantly...I could live with that... better than buying a part for $3700 .... never used the 4wd anyways... so no loss here...... so basically there three pulleys doing nothing...I removed the other two that were just free wheelers.. they were attached to the bracket I removed and at the bottom of the ac compressor.....oh..I forgot to mention... the$1000 was for the belt.. the bracket... the pulley and finally the alternator... which cost the bulk of the money... so technically if u don't need the alternator like me ( alternator needed changing)it would have cost about $400... even better

but the pulley on the alternator has a 7 groove so therefore the pulley has to change also

you are correct... but the alternator I got was a seven grove... so I didn't have to change the pulley... the hr 15 that I got it from was a seven grove including the belt....I know some tiida engines carry the smaller six groove instead

when I get home I will check the old alternator and count the grooves.... my engine uses a wider belt than a normal tiida by one groove.

Well, now that you have left the 4wd behind, you can scrap out the rear end and remove the extra heavy motor, wiring and axles to shed some pounds.......

kinda confused here the 2wd carry 6 groove and4wd carry 7 then the alternator pulley will have too be changed too 6 groove. too accomodate the shorter belt not so???????//

Ok...I finally got some time to check properly... the four wheel drive uses a six groove belt ( counting the spaces)....I am assuming the normal 2wd is probably 6 grooves also (i could be wrong).( heard some ppl say some carry 5 groove).. because I got the belt and the alternator off a hr15.... and the belt was 6 grooves also and that engine didn't not have the 4wd generator nor did its pulley system look anything close to the one I was replacing ... so you can ignore the part about it being 7 grooves... it's 6.... can anyone confirm that the normal tiida uses 6 groove or a 5 groove?... my tiida is an 06 model.. .. and I was really wondering about getting rid of that extra weight.... removing the rear system..... but Will anything happen to the rear after I remove the axles.... that's my main concern.... leaving that hole open... for dirt and stuff... not sure how it's made up inside, so I can't say if it's a legit concern.... thoughts ?
when I get some more time..I will upload the picture of the old bracket with pulleys... the old belt and automatic tensioner....

You can leave the outer CV joints on to hold the bearings together and not worry about dirt or grime, just minus the axles, inner joints, motor and its mounting subframe.

E-4wd is 7 groove

I think i realise what's happening...I counted the grooves on the belt... and I guess you counted the grooves on the pulley..... if that's the case..... you are correct....my mistake

The generator pulley and the alternator pulleys are the same

oh ok... if I could get the generator out... you could get the pulley from it... but to make space to take the generator is going to be a problem lol

here are a few pics i took of the parts i took off.......if anyone needs an alternator.....i got one...lol....my pulley was the wrong width.....as you can tell from the picture....as i said before..this is bolt for bolt "conversion"...very simple and you can do it yourself once you can use a spanner and socket set...lol

You got the alternator pulley7 groove?????

nah...its a six groove for some strange reason...got the car like that...all the other pulleys were normal and the alternator was 1 less groove...so that means they shaved off a groove on the original belt for it too work in the car.....foreign used vehicles......smh......lol

if you noticed...the ends of the pulley is wider than the normal seven groove...

Currently my generator makes a lot of noise so I'm looking for the manual tensionor. Too change out mines.

Gonna try too source the parts tomm and do the conversion though. But one thing though, how do you slacken the belt on the 4wd meaning which nut is the one for the tensioner.

You have to use a power handle...and pull on the bolt on the automatic tensioner...it will move...giving some slack to remove the belt.....there is a small hole where you can insert like a two inch mail to hold it there in position..while you move the belt off...it's kinda tricky...you will have to pull it all the way....I did it from under the car ....removing the front wheel is a must....do it from there...
