I have a P11 with sr20ve, coolant leaked out from the bottom radiator hose, and u know what happen next, the temp guage went up sky high. I managed to fix the leaking hose and filled up with water. I started the car and it was spitting out the water from the radiator. I tightened the radiator cap one turn and drove home slowly.(s'fdo to m'bella).

The vehicle is starting but I suspect a blown head gasket. My mechanic said don't bother changing the head gasket, or even think about a head job and that the engine is "gone".

I just wanted a second opinion from someone who has experienced this problem, or is knowledgeable when it comes to the sr20ve engine.

remove cylinder head and send to a machine sop to check,most likely it will be shaved,then slap it on with new gasket

Update, it looks like my head gasket is not blown, I pulled over just in time. I believed this happened when the engine overheated while it was still hot when I refilled the radiator the spitted out the water.
The temp guage now reads normal, bubbles does not appear in the radiator, no smoke is coming from the tail pipe, no condensation on the oil cap, no mixing of oil and coolant on the dip stick or in the overflow bottle, no misfire, no drop in performance all that may suggest a blown gasket. I took a test drive and it was normal.

I changed the radiator hoses, and also repaired a pin hole leak in the radiator, I got that welded. This is the fifth radiator I bought foreign used........................ I ain't going down that road again.

Did the car cut off when it over heated?
reason i asked is because i had a faulty rad, and when the temp went up the car cut off, and it refused to start back until the engine cooled off.. just curious tho, p11 vvl neo engine.

No it did not cut off, but that's the ecu way of preventing further damage to the engine. It will only start when cooled. Most cars have that there as a saftey feature.
