Pulsar GTiR Owners, Advice Needed

Postby TeamH2O » June 10th, 2010, 11:03 pm

A friend of mines is trying to get some advice.

Recently bought a Primera with a GTiR engine and believes the previous owner was using synthetic oil. 10W30 or something so.

He was told that these engines are old and needs to use like castrol gtx or halvoline and not synthetic.

The tappet area is making alot of noise and wants to find out how to stop it. The car is pulling strong and not feeling any hold backs but the noise is kinda annoying.

Just wanted to know if the oil would cause that and if an oil change to the castrol would quiet it down alot or stop it. Also if thats not the cause and anything is worn out to cause the noise, what would be needed to change, where to get these parts new and how much can it cost?

^You mean my car has a brother?

I'm not sure what sort of noise you referring to. Maybe mines have a similar noise... :?: . I have been using Mobil 1 10W30 full synthetic since I had the car 2-1/2 yrs now. I can't say if I am having a noise problem, though. Maybe I can link with your pardnah and compare? I located between PoS and Chaguanas. Let me know.

I told him fix his exhaust leak bcuz its hard to tell which noise is noise. You hear the injectors, you hear the exhaust leak all making a confusing thing.

Changed the oil today and still the same noise.

I was reading up on the net and noticed gtir engine carries solid lifters and it could be a rocker going loose or that plastic thingy over the timing chain. Another case is the shims worn out.

I told him get a set of rocker arm stoppers after he fixes the noise lol.

I bought my car already transplanted. However, I think Mike in Rapsey street did the work. The previous owner of the engine supposedly said that he had it rebuilt. But I don't know who did it. Maybe sss can recommend someone?
